Effiong on Thursday said that the singer is the type of client who will do and say things that are contradictory to a lawyer’s strategy.

The lawyer tweeted, “When it comes to having problematic, difficult and deviant clients, Portable is every lawyer’s nightmare. He is the type of client that will be doing things and making comments that are counterproductive to a lawyer’s strategy.”

Portable to face prosecution for ‘inciting violence against officers’ – Force Headquarters

Popular Nigerian singer, Habeeb Okikiola aka Portable may be sent to jail for alleged unruly conduct likely to cause a breach of peace and incitement of violence against the officers.

This was contained in a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi on Wednesday, March 29.

Portable had a heated exchange with men of the Ogun State Police command that stormed his restaurant to arrest him.

The Zazuu star resisted arrest and challenged them to know the reason for showing up and went on Instagram live to reveal that a Yahoo boy hired 20 police officers to intimidate him.

“Show me your arrest warrant. Why did you come to my office to arrest people? You came and everyone was running. A yahoo boy sent police to arrest me just because I advised him to stop doing yahoo and vent into music.

”Are the police and Yahoo boys now working together? I don’t do Yahoo. I’m a musician. If you want to invite me to your station, you will invite me with money,” he said in a viral video.

The security personnel were eventually forced to leave his office after their failed attempt to take him to the station.

Following the incident, Adejobi in a statement titled “Portable’s conduct unruly, punishable under the law”, said the police officers in the viral video were only carrying out their legal duty.

He explained that police authorities will take necessary action to investigate and prosecute Portable if he is found guilty of any criminal offence.

The statement reads; “The Nigeria Police Force has condemned the actions of one Habeeb Okikiola popularly known by his stage name Portable, in a viral video, where he was seen exhibiting irrational behavior and hurling insults at Police Officers carrying out their legal duty, an action which is criminal and punishable by the criminal laws of Nigeria.

The action of the singer in the video was unruly and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace and incitement of violence against the officers who were detailed to execute a warrant of arrest on him for series of allegations of criminal acts leveled against Mr Portable.

The NPF will take all necessary steps to investigate his actions and ensure that he is prosecuted for any criminal activity he may have committed depending on the severity of the offence. The Police will not condone any unruly act, assault or attack on its officers who are on lawful duty. We need to respect our law enforcement agents who perpetually take the risk of maintaining law and order and fight crimes and criminality in our society.”

ENTERTAINMENTWhy I beat man who brought police to arrest me – Portable

Controversial Nigerian singer, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has opened up about what transpired between him and an alleged internet fraudster who brought the police to arrest him recently.

Recall that the ‘Zazoo’ crooner made headlines after he was captured in a viral video lambasting some officers who stormed his bar in the Sanga Ota area of Ogun State to arrest him.

The singer resisted arrest, boasting that he was a superstar and worked for the ruling party. And consequently, the Ogun State Police Command on Wednesday gave him a 72-hour ultimatum to report himself to the nearest police station before Friday or prepare for arrest.

However, in a new video shared on his Tiktok page, Portable maintained that what transpired between him and the complainant was none of the police’s business.

He explained that the petitioner was his apprentice and was into internet fraud against his advice.

BREAKING: Ayu steps aside as PDP Chairman

The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Iyorchia Ayu has stepped aside from his position.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that Ayu was replaced on Tuesday by the Deputy National Chairman, (North) Umar Iliya Damagum.

This newspaper gathered that Damagum will assume office in acting capacity pending the determination of a court case related to the suspension of Ayu.

Recall that Ayu was suspended by his ward in Benue State on Sunday.

Prior to this development, there had been intense calls (since 2022) led by Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State for Ayu to step aside for a Southerner to take over as the Chairman of Nigeria’s main opposition party.

Ayu’s removal as chairman is one of the key demands of party supporters sympathetic to Wike, as a condition for peace to return to the party.

The camp loyal to Wike had demanded that Ayu should step down to re-tilt the balance of power in the party which they claim is favouring the North.

After Massive Rigging, Delta PDP Jittery Over BVAS Accreditation, Says APC

After Massive Rigging, Delta PDP Jittery Over BVAS Accreditation, Says APC

    Delta - APC - PDP
The All Progressive Congress (APC) in Delta State has described the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the state a petrified party following attempts to verify the voting results with the Bimodal Verification Accreditation System (BVAS) machines in the just concluded governorship election.

Commissioner for Information in the state and spokesman of the PDP presidential campaign council, Charles Aniagwu, had raised alarm that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had issued stringent guidelines to state Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) on the issuance of Certified True Copies (CTCs) of electoral documents for litigation by parties and candidates.

According to Aniagwu the national leadership of INEC was specifically directing it’s RECs to compare the result in form EC8A with what is recorded on the IReV portal before issuing CTCs, which he contended, would circumvent the wheel of justice.

Reacting to the PDP’s alarm, the APC said the ruling party in Delta State was planning to cover up it’s tracks after rigging the governorship poll.

Deputy Director, Media and Publicity of
Delta APC campaign organization, Dr. Timi Tonye, in a statement, said the demand by Aniagwu and the PDP that RECs should issue CTCs without reference to the portal was outrageous and against the provisions of the 2022 Electoral Act.

“Mr. Aniagwu is demanding from INEC, a blatant breach of the provisions of the Electoral Law which spells out clearly the process of collating and announcing the results of the governorship election.

“It is most ridiculous for anyone to request INEC not to implement the Electoral Law and INEC’s own rules in regard to issuing of the Certified True Copies of results of the governorship election in Delta State.

“It is even more absurd to impugn ‘circumvention of justice’ in the statement the PDP issued when in truth they are the people that are attempting to pervert justice by their now notorious BVAS by-pass in the just concluded elections.

“The impudence and mendacity of that demand is offensive and deeply insulting to the sensibilities of the Delta State electorates who have been cheated out of the true results of the election they keenly participated in.

“The PDP, their sympathizers and co-travelers are aware of the egregious falsifications of the results of the Delta State governorship election and the utter falsehood in the announced results, wants the bogus and falsified results published by the collation officers in the state’s INEC office to stand and not controverted by the correct counts of accreditations recorded by IReV.

“The Delta State PDP does not want the upload of results from across the state into the national database BVAS to be used to verify the results published by the Delta State collation officers. This is the reason PDP wants the Certified True Copy of the election result issued in Asaba.

“The fear of verification of the announced results has petrified the PDP. The sheer volume of the diabolism, rigging and other actions to steal an election PDP clearly lost must be resisted by every patriotic citizen of Delta State.

“As we proceed to seek justice in the matter of the 2023 governorship election, we ask the citizens of the state to be vigilant, steadfast and rally around the APC to safeguard democracy in Delta State and the integrity of the 2023 governorship election. We are determined to return the stolen mandate to the true winner of the 2023 governorship election,” it read.

NEWSBREAKING! Osun Governor, Ademola Adeleke Defeats Oyetola At Appeal Court

The court of appeal sitting in Abuja has reinstated Ademola Adeleke as the governor of Osun state.

Delivering judgment in the appeal filed by Adeleke on Friday, a three-member panel of justices held that the election tribunal erred when it ruled that the 1st and 2nd respondents (Gboyega Oyetola and the All Progressives Congress) proved their allegation of over-voting.

According to the panel of judges which issued its verdict on Friday, Adeleke is the duly elected governor of the state.

The Osun governorship election tribunal, in January, held that Oyetola was able to prove that there was over-voting in some of the polling units

Consequently, the majority judgment of the tribunal ordered INEC to withdraw the certificate of return issued to Adeleke and issue a fresh one to Oyetola as the duly elected governor of Osun.

Dissatisfied with the ruling, Adeleke appealed the judgment at the court of appeal.

Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour would have eventually become the next governor of Lagos State, that was our plan and aundaunted resolved from the beginning

"Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour would have eventually become the next governor of Lagos State, that was our plan and aundaunted resolve from the beginning, but his terrible operational attitude, pride, arrogance; spirit of self-centredness and horrible social character disposition gave his victory out.

You want to contest an election to win in a democracy, but all along, you were fighting all the prominent stakeholders and actors in the party. That is the reason many of us backed out at the last moment.

You would call him on phone he won't pick your call, except only when he needs your help.

He was always too proud to go beg the people, who feel aggrieved about his ugly ways and style of operations in the party.

I made efforts for us to go and beg Alhaji Moshood Salvador and co. to work for his project, but he refused.

Democracy is a game of numbers and collective contributions of more and more people.

When Labour Party won Lagos, during the presidential election, everybody in the party was committedly and passionately involved. But, Gbadebo lost, because he told many of us to get away from his project and called our bluff.

Anything Yoruba irritates him in the party. He is only attracted to Anything Ibo,  the Endsars people and his emergency allies that he imported from abroad.

Those are the 'super' people,  he believed would give him all the votes to win Lagos.

He was only banking on the votes of his politically inexperienced Obidient movement people; the Ibos and the endsars people in the party, hence he did away with the contributions of many of the prominent Yorubas on the platform.

That Chief Sumbo Onitiri, who was the highly respected and calm chairman of the elders forum left; Salvador and many prominent Yoruba big wigs left, was a vindication of all I have been saying about Gbadebo's nature and character from the beginning.

He refused to work with the right structure of the party - He refused to do the right thing with the party, and wasn't humble enough to carry everybody along with expected humility and dignity, hence, he lost it all alone with his bad, poor and uncultured character.

He didn't trust anybody that had anything to do with Salako in the party. He deliberately sidelined them; starved them of necessary supports and treated them like a pariah.

He didn't do well with many of the candidates, who contested elections on the platform.

Gbadebo operated like a lone ranger all along.

He didn't relate well with them, and didn't carry them along, let alone give them good moral/financial supports, when necessary.

He was operating alone with Sherif Adegbite, his P.A, and only special adviser.

That is another poorly trained/brought up social character.

I gave him the ticket to contest to become governor, but he and his bitchy deputy, Princess Oyefusi, ended up removing me as the State Chairman.

This is somebody, who hasn't become the governor.

How would he be behaving, operating and treating people, if he eventually become the governor?!

Gbadebo had no relationship with prominent leaders and elders of the party. He didn't operate with us and didn't carry any of us along in all he was doing.

So, no sane human being should expect that I would still continue to stake it all for such kind of a character in a human being to succeed in his own project.

I simply worked and voted, where my efforts and vote were needed, valued and appreciated.

Gbadebo who cannot rule our party; manage people and run things fairly well with people in the party, now wants to rule Lagos.

With what character?!

God is not stupid. He doesn't reward betrayals, ungratefulness and bad leadership operational character with 'holy' greatness.

This is the political base of the Jagaban of politics in Nigeria, he said it in a video in circulation on social media few weeks ago.

He said, and I quote:

'Political power is not served a la carte. It is for the grabs. You grab it; snatch it and run away with it ..."

Is that the type of a man, you would want to face in an election, and you expect it would be as easy as fighting and calling the bluff of all the prominent and experienced polical actors in your own party"

PDP Warn Hope Uzodinma not to upturned election

March 18, 2023 Press Statement Assembly Polls: Thugs, Ebubeagu You're Dispatching to Ideato North May Return in Body Bags - Imo PDP Warns Hope Uzodinma - Says, PDP Has Won Landslide in Ideato North - Vows, Uzodinma's Plot to Upturn Results Will Be Vehemently Resisted The People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State has accused the Governor of the State, Senator Hope Uzodinma, of dispatching a combined team of thugs and Ebubeagu Militiamen to Ideato North to invade the collation center in Urualla and upturn the victory of the PDP in today's House of Assembly elections. To be clear, the plan is to smuggle into the collation center a new wad results that were written in favour of the failed APC last night in Douglas House, Owerri. From the results uploaded on INEC Portal and sent in by our Party's agents in all the polling units, PDP has already recorded landslide victory in Ideato North. Our Party, therefore, warns that any attempt to tamper with this hard-earned victory will be vehemently resisted by our Party faithful and supporters, and indeed the entire people of Ideato North, who have waited for this moment to free themselves from the maelstrom of APC's ruinous misrule. Our Party holds that by this action, the regime of Senator Uzodinma has levied war against the people of Ideato North, and reminds the thugs and militiamen to say their last prayers before embarking on such voyage of death, because in whole they are going, but in pieces they may return. What must be recalled is that both President Mohammadu Buhari and the Inspector General of Police have handed down stern warnings against the use of thugs and/or state-backed security outfits during elections. The people of Ideato North must now stand strong and resist this assault on their democratic right by the godless regime of Senator Uzodinma. According to the actress, she did dialysis at St. Nicholas hospital for a while before she came across the pastor who gave her holy water. The pastor reportedly said that God gave him the instruction to give her the holy water to cure her illness.

Oshodi Oke further revealed that she had been admitted to St. Nicholas hospital in Lagos before then and was receiving drip for nine days. It got to a point where her veins were no longer visible, and they had to pass the fluid tubes through her upper thigh.

Ojaja University will reposition Nigeria’s educational sector’ – Ooni of Ife

Ojaja University will reposition Nigeria’s educational sector’ – Ooni of Ife

Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi
Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi
Since his ascension to the throne of his forbearers over 7 years ago, the Ooni of Ife, Arole Oduduwa Olofin Adimula, Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi Ojaja II, CFR has made clear his intention of not only bring an all-inclusive reign to Oodua race but also pledged to bring unprecedented development in all facet of life.

This is including the area of human empowerment, business development, youth empowerment, agricultural development, infrastructural development and promoting made-in-Nigeria product with the recent launch of his multi-million naira retail outlet Ojaja More in Ile-Ife and Osogbo, Osun State with other outlets across South-West currently under construction.

For his unending passion for education and entrepreneurship, Ooni on Tuesday revealed plans for the official commissioning of his citadel of learning, the Ojaja University, Eyenkorin Ilorin, Kwara State formerly Crown-Hill University.

This great news was shared by the monarch in Abuja via a post on his verified social media handles after securing full accreditation for the take-off courses of the institution from the National Universities Commission, NUC aided by its substantial Vice Chancellor, Professor Jeleel Ojuade.

After a thorough accreditation exercise recently conducted by the nation’s University regulatory body, Ooni avered that it has always been his dream to own a citadel of learning where scholars can be moulded not in only learning but character and entrepreneurship to enable them to stand shoulder to shoulder with their peers outside the shores of Africa.

Ooni has consistently challenged the status quo in Nigeria’s educational system where graduates are churned out yearly but with little or no knowledge of entrepreneurship and basic skills to help them stay afloat as they move to the other face of life.

Ooni disclosed that; Our students just do the normal routine every four years write their projects and they graduate. What solution are they creating to the many issues we have in the country? most especially in health, technology, housing, and agriculture among others.

“Nigerian Universities just churn out millions of graduates yearly but don’t arm them with the necessary skills and support they need. In China and the united states of America, students build most of the applications we use today. Facebook, Instagram, and the likes were built by students but today they are making billions of dollars from them. Our education curriculum should teach how to analyze situations and bring pragmatic solutions via proper research.”

Ooni further added that imagine a university where student graduates and there is a business grant waiting for those who are willing to delve into entrepreneurship.

“The grants are made readily available to help establish what they have learnt in school. We can’t keep churning out graduates without providing how they should be utilized. If not we would continue to witness the current brain drain and the massive exodus of our best hand to foreign countries. Ojaja university will be structured in a way whereby students will be given a free hand to explore and settle for what they wish to become with our solid support. They will be trained to be problem solvers and critical thinkers with a burning entrepreneurial mindset. Ojaja university is driven strictly by innovation and ideas. We will celebrate more innovative minds than academic excellence.”

Ooni also disclosed that admission into various degree programs would soon commence with an easy payment plan for students. “What we are bringing on board in terms of academic reform is different from what is out there. Our graduates and products will not be half-baked. They will be well-trained to meet the teeming demands of a modern technological-driven society like Nigeria. They will be the change-makers who are ready to proffer solutions to all issues they might encounter in and outside their workspace.”

ARTICLE AND OPINION Sanwo Olu: A Great Unifier, Why He Deserves A Second Term

ARTICLE AND OPINION
Sanwo Olu: A Great Unifier, Why He Deserves A Second Term

According to former United State of America President, Thomas Jefferson, “The whole art of government consists in the art of being honest. Only aim to do your duty, and mankind will give you credit where you fail.”

This assertion best described Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo Olu.

When Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo Olu came into the saddle as the 15th Governor of Lagos State, the commercial hub of the nation, many doubted his abilities.

Having come from obscurity to prominence during the electioneering campaign and his choice by the All Progressives Congress, APC, to hoist the Flag of the Party at the 2019 Governorship Election in the State, many wondered how he could be chosen ahead of the then incumbent, Akinwunmi Ambode.

He, however, proved his critics and bookmakers wrong as he leveraged on the footprints of his predecessors to put Lagos State on the roadmap of becoming a Mega City it has always envisioned

Coming on board, Sanwo Olu’s knowledge of challenges confronting residents made his administration adopt a six pillars policy programme tagged T.H.E.M.E.S in solving the identified problems through good governance.

The six pillars are Traffic Management and Transportation; Health and Environment; Education and Technology; Making Lagos a 21st Century state; Entertainment and Tourism; Security and Governance.

Each of these six pillars is carefully thought-out as the Government’s priorities in delivering solutions across sectors.

The Governor Sanwo-Olu administration has completed and commissioned more than 970 road projects. These include the Agege Pen Cinema Bridge, Oniru network of roads, Ikoyi network of roads, Lagos-Ogun Boundary roads Phase II, Lekki Oniru Traffic Circulation Projects and 37 networks of roads in Ojokoro

Others are Isawo-Agric road, Ikorodu, Oshodi-Abule-Egba BRT lane, Ijede Road Phase 1 in Ikorodu, Tedi-Muwo Link Bridge, Lagos-Ogun boundary Roads in Alimosho and 6 reconfigured Roundabouts – Allen, Ikotun, Maryland, Lekki and Ajah among others.

The government also carried out 110 palliatives and 361 sectional rehabilitations on roads across the state, while over 650 inner roads were rehabilitated by the Lagos State Public Works Corporation [LSPWC].

Sanwo-Olu has completed and delivered the all-important Lagos Rice Mill, Imota, Ikorodu. This rice mill will inject over 250,000 direct and indirect jobs into employment space for the youth.

The state’s education sector has also been positively impacted by the governor. One visible way through which this has been achieved is the renovation and construction of public schools.

To beef up the teaching personnel in public schools, about 1,500 new teachers were recruited, while 15,000 others were trained through the Eko EXCEL programme on 21st century modes of teaching and learning. With the strong impact of the EKO EXCEL programme, the face of public education has been positively altered in the state. An acronym for, “Excellence in Child Education and Learning”, the programme is designed to reposition public education and improve methods of teaching to meet contemporary demands.

The Sanwo-Olu administration has equally improved the public health sector. Lagosians and Nigerians, in general, will not forget in a hurry the innovative and brave way Sanwo-Olu managed the outbreak of COVID-19 in the state.

As part of efforts to tackle the third wave of the dreaded coronavirus, 10 COVID-19 oxygen treatment and Sample Collection Centres as well as 20 Local Government Area (LGA) Based Sample Collection Sites were activated.

Similarly, four Mother and Child Centers (MCCs) in Epe, Ajah, Badagry and Igando were completed and commissioned, while the reconstruction of the New Massey’s Street Children Hospital in Lagos Island is on course. When completed, it will be the biggest Children’s Hospital in Africa.

Comprehensive renovation of public health facilities is equally ongoing at Ebute-Meta Health Centre, Harvey Road Health Centre, General Hospital, Odan, Lagos, General Hospital, Isolo, Ketu-Ejirin Health Centre. The administration has also revamped the Jigi Bola initiative (blindness preventive programme) across all LGs and LCDAs in the state.

With the inauguration of newly upgraded/rehabilitated fire and rescue service headquarters and three newly-built fire stations, the government has equally recorded a major asset expansion in its emergency response services

The huge investment committed to the retooling, upgrading/renovation of fire stations is to make the state’s Fire and Rescue Service more effective and enhance its performance. The turnaround reinforces Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to the security of the lives and properties of Lagos inhabitants.

The governor is not just putting in place world-class infrastructure; he is also building a formidable public service to help drive his vision for Greater Lagos. The public service is a major vehicle and formidable delivery arm of government services to the people.

While most states of the federation are incapable of paying the salaries and pensions of their workers, the state pays as and when due. Just last December, the governor approved the payment of 100% of the staff’s basic salary as an end-of-the-year bonus.

Without a doubt, Sanwo-Olu has creatively used his first tenure in office to transform Lagos into a 21st-century economy supported by world-class infrastructure and modern social amenities.

With the steady strides of the governor and his team, it has been demonstrated that with the right leadership, an enabling environment can be created for the citizenry to prosper. In my view, with Sanwo-Olu’s pedigree and performance; he remains the man to beat in the March 18th Governorship Election.

Governor Sanwo-Olu is a friend of the Igbo, Hausa, and Yorubas, irrespective of your ethnicity. He remains a unifier and a likeable personality and God-fearing man who is not coming to learn on the job. He possesses all the requisite experience to steer the ship of a multi- cultural,multi- ethnic state like Lagos.

An African proverb says that you use today’s atmosphere to gauge tomorrow’s weather. Under the Sanwo-Olu’s administration, Ndigbo, Hausa, and Yorubas in Lagos have been given more than a fair share of accommodation in terms of participation in the affairs of government through political appointments.

During the #EndSARS demonstrations that led to the wanton destruction of lives and properties, Governor Sanwo-Olu displayed great leadership qualities as the youth-motivated civil action against police brutality, which was later hijacked by hoodlums.

The campaign, which started peacefully turned violent after it, was hijacked, leading to violence and destruction of many private and public properties in Lagos State.

Rather than allowing Lagos to be brought to its knees by the ugly incident, Sanwo-Olu rose up to the challenge by championing “Rebuild Lagos” plan.

One of the major takeaways from the first term in office of Governor Sanwo-Olu is that a leader will always achieve good governance when honesty, passion and vision brought into policy-making and execution are greater than fears and excuses.

The governor, without any iota of doubt, has delivered significantly on his campaign promises during his first term in office. His achievements are visible in different sectors and have been commended by people within and outside the state.

No doubt, Lagos has been a fertile ground for quantum accomplishments and success in various strata of human endeavour.

Irrespective of ethnic differences, businessmen have also immeasurably contributed to the socio-economic growth of the state through investments in commerce, hospitality industry, real estate etc, this is made possible due to the acceptability, open minded and people’s oriented polices of an astute Governor like Babajide Olusola Sanwo Olu.

These aforementioned are the main reason why Governor Sanwo Olu should be voted for to paddle the Ship of Lagos for the next Four Years for Lagosians to further enjoy the dividend of democracy.

A vote for Sanwo Olu is voting for prosperity, continuity, development, and growth the Lagos we all yawn for.

The Choice is Yours……

Why Ogun State Can't Afford To Lose Governor Abiodun- By Gbolahan Adetayo

Come Saturday 18th March 2023, gubernatorial election will be held in several states across Nigeria, and one man many can't afford to lose out after the election is the Executive Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dr. Dapo Abiodun (MFR).

Abiodun's record of accomplishment in Ogun State has made him a popular figure among residents, who believe that the state cannot afford to lose him. In his first term in office, the talk and do governor made significant progress in infrastructure development, job creation, and poverty reduction. He constructed and rehabilitated several roads across the state, including the Ilaro-Abeokuta Road, the Ejinrin-Ijebu Ode Road, and the Sagamu-Interchange Road.

He also initiated programmes aimed at promoting entrepreneurship and supporting small businesses, such as the Ogun State Anchor Borrowers Scheme and the Ogun State Enterprise Development Fund.

Residents of Ogun State see Governor Abiodun as a capable and reliable leader who has delivered on his promises. The governor's re-election campaign has gained momentum, with supporters and well-wishers coming out in droves to show their support for his vision of progress and development.

One of the reasons why Ogun State cannot afford to lose Abiodun is the progress he has made in infrastructure development. The governor's first term was marked by the construction and rehabilitation of several roads across the state, as well as the establishment of several industrial parks. These initiatives have helped to boost economic activities in the state and create jobs for residents.

Another reason why Governor Abiodun is highly regarded by residents of Ogun State is his commitment to education. The governor has prioritized the education sector, with a focus on improving the quality of education and increasing access to education for all residents.

During his first term in office, Prince implemented several initiatives aimed at improving the standard of education in the state. He launched the Ogun State Education Trust Fund, which provides financial support to students who are unable to pay their tuition fees. The governor also established the Ogun State Digital Learning Initiative, which is aimed at providing students with access to technology-based learning resources.

In addition to infrastructure development and education, Governor Abiodun has also made significant progress in poverty reduction and job creation. His government's efforts in these areas have been lauded by residents, who believe that the governor's policies have helped to improve their standard of living.

Dapo, has initiated several programmes aimed at reducing poverty, such as the Ogun State Economic Transformation Programme and the Ogun State Anchor Borrowers Scheme. These programmes have helped to create jobs, support small businesses, and stimulate economic growth in the state.

With the governor's track record of achievement and his commitment to progress and development, residents of Ogun State believe that losing him would be a significant setback for the state. They have expressed their support for the Governor, stating that his re-election would ensure continuity in the state's progress and development.

JUST-IN: Supreme Court Sacks Shekarau As Senator-Elect

JUST-IN: Supreme Court Sacks Shekarau As Senator-Elect

The Supreme Court on Friday sacked Senator Ibrahim Shekarau, the senator-elect on the platform of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) and recognised Senator Rufa’i Hanga as the party’s authentic candidate for the 2023 general election.

New Telegraph had reported that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Shekarau the winner of the 2023 Kano Central Senatorial District  in the just concluded election.

According to INEC, Shekarau polled 456,787 votes to defeat the All Progressives Congress candidate, Alhaji Abdulkarim Zaura, who polled 168,677 votes.

Shekarau, a sitting senator was nominated to vie for the senatorial position on the platform before he defected to the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the build up of the 2023 general election.

However, the Supreme Court affirmed the nomination of Hanga as the NNPP’s authentic candidate after Shekarau abandoned his senatorial ambition to join the PDP.

In a unanimous judgement, Justice Inyang Okoro-led five-member panel of the court faulted INEC’s refusal to replace Shekarau with Hanga after the former left the party for PDP before the election.

Justice Emmanuel Agim, who read the lead judgment, written by Justice Uwani Abba-Aji, dismissed the INEC appeal.

The court upheld the two earlier concurrent judgments by the Federal High Court and Court of Appeal, both in Abuja, that affirmed Hanga as the authentic candidate of NNPP.

BREAKING! INEC Postpones Governorship, State Assembly Elections To March 18
admin Follow on TwitterMarch 8, 2023
 INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakub
Barring any further extensions, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reached a decision to postpone Saturday’s governorship and state assembly elections to March 18, 2023.

INEC’s decision is coming about three days before the March 11 date earlier scheduled for the state elections.

A source in INEC informed Whistler that the postponement is due to the inability of the commission to promptly commence reconfiguration of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machines utilized during the February 25 presidential election to enable their use in the state elections.

INEC was earlier restrained from tampering with the information embedded in the BVAS machines until due inspection was conducted and Certified True Copies (CTC) issued to candidates who are challenging the outcome of the presidential election.

Basically, INEC needs about 4-5 days to retrain ad-hoc staff on the reconfiguration that they won in court today.

If not postponed, then it would be worse than what happened during the presidential and National Assembly (NASS) elections.

2023 presidential election: Why INEC is wrong to declare Tinubu winner – Ex- Justice minister, Aondoakaa

2023 presidential election: Why INEC is wrong to declare Tinubu winner – Ex- Justice minister, Aondoakaa

A former Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Micheal Aondoakaa, SAN, has faulted the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, winner of the 2023 presidential election.

Aondoakaa pointed out that it was illegal to declare a person President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, when such a person failed to meet the constitutionally required 25% of votes in the Federal Capital Territory. The senior advocate of Nigeria said this when he appeared on Arise TV at the weekend to discuss the outcome of the presidential and national assembly elections, mentioning that in a similar case in 2008, the Supreme Court interpreted the word “And” conjunctively making it a mandatory requirement for anyone aspiring to be the President of the Federation.

According to him, the law has not changed since fourteen years ago when the case was decided, adding that it will be incumbent on the apex court to re-interpret that section of the Constitution again. In his words “the Supreme Court has a right to defeat their previous decision or stand by it according to the doctrine of Stare Decisis”. INEC on Wednesday went on to declare the APC candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu winner of the 2023 presidential election despite the outcry of Nigerians over alleged massive rigging of the electoral process.

The former minister of justice said that the electoral umpire violated its own guidelines by failing to upload results of the election from the polling units directly to its server. “The Supreme Court is conscious about a party following its own guidelines and how much more INEC whose guidelines have a Constitutional Flavour,” the learned silk said.

“They will need to have a good reason to be told to the tribunals why they deviated from their guidelines and they must justify that deviating from those guidelines did not invalidate the results,” he said. He said the electoral umpire decided to change the goalpost in the middle of the game, insisting that this will be a serious issue to justify.

We’re Confident Peter Obi Will Retrieve Mandate – Ohanaeze

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo has expressed optimism that the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, would reclaim his mandate in court. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) winner of the presidential election held on Saturday, February 25. Following his defeat, the LP presidential candidate, Peter Obi approached the election tribunal to challenge the victory of Tinubu.

Speaking with newsmen, the national publicity secretary of the organisation, Dr Alex Ogbonnia, stressed that Ohanaeze is prepared to go the full length with Peter Obi in his quest to retrieve the mandate freely given to him by Nigerians at the polls. According to him, Nigerians from across the country believed in the LP candidate’s message and mantra that a new Nigeria is possible, hence, their overwhelming support for the Obi-Datti ticket. He applauded citizens for coming out to vote massively for the Labour Party candidate despite the intimidation and harassment.

“I’m happy Nigeria is moving away from political apathy to a participant political culture. It is a plus because in the third world, Political participation has been a problem and you could see that they participated actively. They couldn’t be suppressed or intimidated. They rather defied all the threats from all the external forces and came even under sunshine and rain. They stood strongly and expressed their wish through their votes. We were impressed because in the past, they did not have confidence in the electoral system and to that extent, there is this political apathy. But they came out fully and voted,” he stated.

Dr Ogbonnia highlighted that Peter Obi is a meticulous person whose personal conviction might not be called to question, indicating that the former Anambra State governor would emerge victorious at the end of the day. According to him: “I have confidence in that because when he was deprived of his victory sometime in Anambra State, he struggled and assured people that he would recover it. Later on, he recovered that mandate. The same way, it is like history repeating itself.

“Anybody who has known Peter Obi will know that he is always sure of whatever he is doing. He is conscious of whatever position or decision he is taking. He is not a man of frivolities or a man who takes decisions anyhow. He takes a thorough review of his decisions before making it public.”
