WHY WE DONT ALLOW NIGERIAN REFEREES OFFICIATE AFCON GAME-CAF.

WHY WE DON'T ALLOW NIGERIAN REFEREES OFFICIATE AFCON GAME-CAF.

The Head of Refereeing at the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Desire Noumandiez Doue, has cited the exclusion of Nigerian referees from the 2023 African Cup of Nations roster, stating that they were not selected because they are not deemed the best, Soccernet.ng reports.

During a CAF referees training session at Sol Beni (ASEC Mimosas Training Centre) in Abidjan on Thursday, Doue emphasised the importance of Nigerian referees enhancing their performance to meet CAF standards.

The last time a Nigerian referee served as the center referee in a Nations Cup game was in 2006, marking 18 years since a Nigerian referee officiated at the tournament.

The Ivorian referee, reacting to why Nigeria has not officiated at AFCON for 18 years, acknowledged that Nigeria has competent referees but urged them to actively participate in CAF competitions.

Doue clarified Soccernet.ng that while Nigeria has good referees for domestic and regional matches, CAF seeks the absolute best for continental competitions like the AFCON.

“You have good referees in Nigeria, but this is our message to them, they need to come to the CAF competition, especially to the AFCON.

He emphasised that the selection process for referees spans over a year and a half, involving continuous scouting, evaluation, and selection.

He added: “We don’t need good referees; good referees are for the MAs, and good referees are for the zone, in CAF we need the best, so Nigerian referees are good, but they can still improve if they need assistance. They need to do more to be among the best because the selection has been started for one year and a half, so we are in a continuous process of scouting, evaluating, and selecting.”

Doue highlighted the progression from young talent to elite levels, with the final selection for AFCON being made from the elite A category.

He encouraged Nigerian referees to strive for improvement, indicating that the quest for the best referees is an ongoing process.

“You know we have different stages; you start with young talent, then you go to elite B; after that, you proceed to elite A, then you go professional among the best, and it’s among the elite A we picked from AFCON,” he continued.

Addressing the performance of the Video Assistant Referee (VAR), Doue admitted that CAF is working to enhance the VAR process.

“Presently, nobody can’t learn from us, we are just trying to do our best, you know all the leagues are different, the approach is different, the philosophy is different, and the understanding is different, we are concentrating on our league and we are trying to do our best. We know we still have space for improvement because this is a continuous learning process. We know we have challenges, and we need to have space for improvement, and we will continue to do that,” he said.

He expressed satisfaction with the positive feedback on VAR’s success at AFCON but cautioned against premature praise, emphasising that the competition is ongoing and challenges may arise.

He stated: “We are glad to hear the feedback about the success of VAR at AFCON because we are always happy because it not like this before, we are very happy but at the same time we know that this is for the moment as we need to keep the standard of our performance that is why we continue to work hard.”

LATE ISA FUNTUA’S SON, ABUBAKAR, HIS UGANDAN ASSOCIATE, ASEGA, ON THE RUN AFTER STEALING N28BILLION

LATE ISA FUNTUA’S SON, ABUBAKAR, HIS UGANDAN ASSOCIATE, ASEGA, ON THE RUN AFTER STEALING N28BILLION
Abubakar Isa Funutua, son of late Isa Funtua, and his Ugandan businesses associate, Asega Aliga, both looted N28billion from Keystone Bank and fled Nigeria. While Abubakar is said to have moved to Spain where his estimated to worth $300million in cash and properties, Aliga is said to the hiding in Uganda. The two rogues also shuttle around the UK.
The duo used 13 companies dubiously formed companies to collect Agricultural loans from the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, under Godwin Emefiele and have since paid only N7billion before they decided to go into hiding.
The shell companies used are: STEFEM AGRICULTURE NIG LTD, MIDDLEEMARSH FARM LTD, AGRICULTURAL DERIVATIVES LTD., CHARIS2014 GLOBAL LTD, IKEEZ AGRO ALLIED RESOURCES LTD., PIERS ON AGRO-ALLIED, WHOLEFOODS PROCESSING LTD, TENACO FARMS AND FOOD NIG LTD, HOUSE OF ESHCOL LTD, MAHVECK GLOBAL CONCEPT LTD, ESTIM FARMS LTD, WILLYMONIA INT, HARGRIK AGRO INVESTMENT LTD.
Soon after Isa Funtua died, Emefiele had asked Abubakar to return to site and complete the N30billion CBN Car Parking Extension contract awarded to Bulet Construction. Abubakar refused. Emefiele also demanded repayment of the Agricultural loans collected. Again, Abubakar refused. The former CBN Governor then debited Keystone Bank where Abubakar and Aliga own majority shares, the sum of N28billion being the total loan sum collected.
Informants at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC confirmed to me that soon after the investigation of Keystone Bank, it was discovered that Abubakar and Aliga had used fronts to set up another company called Seltrix Nigeria Limited, where most of the N28billion collected from the CBN as Agric loans were warehoused. Only about N4billion is now left in Seltrix account.
Keystone Bank can no longer recover their money because the companies used to obtain those loans only exist on papers.
It is the same model Abubakar and Aliga used in collecting $251million loan from AFREXIM  to acquire 9mobile, using Teleology/Emerging Market. 9Mobile has now been taken over by AFREXIM after Abubakar and Aliga and their Emergin Market refused pay back

Africans Are ‘Special Case’ When It Comes To LGBT Blessings Because Of Their Culture –Pope Francis

According to Reuters, Pope Francis in an interview with an Italian Newspaper La Stampa published on Monday, said Africans consider LGBT as bad for them from a cultural point of view.

Pope Francis has said he is confident critics of his decision to allow blessings for same-sex couples will eventually understand it, except for Africans who are "a special case".

According to Reuters, Pope Francis in an interview with an Italian Newspaper La Stampa published on Monday, said Africans consider LGBT as bad for them from a cultural point of view.

Blessings were allowed last month in a document called Fiducia Supplicans (Supplicating Trust), which has caused widespread debate in the Catholic Church, with particularly strong resistance coming from African bishops.

"Those who protest vehemently belong to small ideological groups," Francis told Italian newspaper La Stampa, adding: "A special case are Africans: for them homosexuality is something 'bad' from a cultural point of view, they don't tolerate it."

"But in general, I trust that gradually everyone will be reassured by the spirit of the 'Fiducia Supplicans' declaration by the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith: it aims to include, not divide," the pope continued.

Already last week, Pope Francis appeared to acknowledge the pushback the document unleashed, especially in Africa, where bishops have effectively rejected it and where in some countries same-sex activity can lead to prison or even the death penalty.

He said that when the blessings are given, priests should "naturally take into account the context, the sensitivities, the places where one lives and the most appropriate ways to do it".

Speaking about his health, which has taken some knocks in recent years with hospitalisations, mobility problems and cancelled trips or events, the 87-year-old said, "There are some aches and pains but it's better now, I'm fine."

Do It Sharp Sharp – Another Nigerian Police Officer Caught On Camera Demanding Bribe From Motorist

The police officer captured in the viral video had insisted that the motorist would not leave unless he paid him the demanded bribe.

Nigerian Police Officer
A Nigerian police officer has been captured on camera soliciting money from a car driver.

The police officer captured in the viral video had insisted that the motorist would not leave unless he paid him the demanded bribe.

“Do sharp sharp and go now, if not, I will do my job,” the erring policeman was heard in the video.

The officer then proceeded to call his Access Bank account details to the motorist for him to transfer the money before he would allow him to drive his car from the spot.

In his reaction, Muyiwa Adejobi, the spokesperson for the Nigerian Police Force described the incident in the video as shameful and against their professional ethics.

“This is not allowed, so shameful. It's condemned. We need more info about this. We will fish him out,” He wrote.

SaharaReporters had earlier reported also how some operatives of the Nigeria Police Force were accused of kidnapping a businessman in Abuja, the country’s capital city and extorted the sum of N29,900,000 from him.

It was alleged that the man was taken away from his site without any proper complaint against him and he was not asked to write a formal statement by the Police Officers.

“We have taken over this case at the FHQ.  The victims and Harrison came to my office on Friday, and we have commenced the investigation into the case. Justice must be served,” Adejobi wrote on X, while reacting to the claims.

AFCON 23: Nigeria Chains Lions of Cameroon 2-0 to Fly into the Quarterfinals. …Meet Angola on Tuesday at 6pm for the quarterfinal match.

AFCON 23: Nigeria Chains Lions of Cameroon 2-0 to Fly into the Quarterfinals.
…Meet Angola on Tuesday at 6pm for the quarterfinal match.

Atanlata of Italy winger, Ademola Lookman on Saturday chained the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon with a scintillating brace, two goals in a match that made the Super Eagles of Nigeria fly gleefully to the quarterfinals in a very tense match.

The Lions looked for whom to devour in the Nigerian pack and targeted both Victor Osimhen and Nwabili in goal for Nigeria and unnoticed ‘killerman’ of Cameroon, no 8 shirt Anguissa got down Nwabili who was stretchered off for Uzoho to come and finish the game.

Nigeria had wanted to finish the Lions early when Semi Ajayi pounced on a defensive blunder of the Cameroonian defenders to score in the 8th minute of play and as the Nigerians in the stadium almost brought down the Houphouet Boigny Stadium with their celebration, VAR punctured the joy as a child punctures a balloon ruling it offside.

Nigeria especially Osimhen who was a thorn in the flesh of the Cameroonians pounced of another defensive blunder from severe pressure to slot a pass to Lookman who scored the authentic first goal for Nigeria in the 36th minute.

Lookman who was picked as MANOF THE MATCH was on course again receiving a Calvin Bassey floated pass from the left flank to beat Cameroonian goalkeeper, Fabrice Ondoa neatly for goal number two and even the grass on the field henceforth refused to yield for the Lions of Cameroon.

The match is the 3rd clean sheet (slang for not conceding a goal in a match) in four matches for Nigeria which is a fantastic achievement and the first time Nigeria will score more than one goal in a match makes one feel the jinx has been broken.

It can be recalled that the last competitive match of both countries was the Round of 16 encounters like the one under review played before a crowd of 10,000 fans at Alexandra Stadium in Egypt at AFCON 2019 and Ref Joshua Bindo of Botswana was in charge (where Odion Ighalo was highest Scorer with 5 goals). Ighalo got a brace (two goals in a match) at 19th and 63rd minute with Bahoken scoring at 41st minute and N’Jie equalized 44th minute before Alex Iwobi shoved in the decider which was his first goal at AFCON 2019. It was 2-1 then but 2-0 now.

Angola will now face the winner of the Nigeria in the quarterfinal on Friday 2nd February at the Houphet Boiny stadium at 6pm.

Nigeria chalked 7 points from 3 games scoring 3 goals and conceding only a goal placing second in her group A, whereas Cameroon only earned 4 points coming as a lucky loser scoring 5 goals and conceding 6 goals.

In their last AFCON matches in Ivory Coast, Cameroon beat Gambia 3-2; lost to Senegal 1-3 and drew 1-1 with Guinea. Nigeria beat Guinea by a lone goal, defeated hosts Ivory Coast also by a lone goal and played 1-1 with Equatorial Guinea. That in Nigeria is described as “Na God do am” or “Ori ba mi se” in Yoruba. Nigeria is a country that can wobble and fumble yet lift the trophy.

For editing purpose only a few head to head encounters will be cited. At the world cup qualifiers of 2017 Nigeria spanked Cameroon 4-0 on 1st September and in the 2nd leg played in Yaounde on 4th September that year it was 1-1 draw.

There were two friendly matches in 2021. Cameroon won in Nigeria by a lone goal on 4th June 2021 and on 8th June 2021 in Yaounde it was goalless.

Cameroon is four times AFCON champions. The podium finish of Cameroon is impressive. In 1972 they hosted and won Bronze defeating Zaire 5-2; The Lions first won the trophy in Ivory Coast in 1984 caging the Super Eagles of Nigeria 3-1; in 1986 she lost the trophy in a penalty shootout 5-4 after a goalless match to hosts Egypt; in 1988 they took the trophy again beating Nigeria 1-0 in Morocco; but in 1992 at Senegal the team ended 4th losing the Bronze to Nigeria 1-2.

When Nigeria and Ghana co-hosted in 2000 Cameroon again defeated their foes Nigeria 4-3 on penalty after 2-2 draw; it was back to back win for Cameroon in 2002 in Mali beating Senegal on penalty 3-2 after a goalless full time; at Ghana 2008, Cameroon bagged the Silver losing to Egypt  by a lone goal; Cameroon last won the trophy at Gabon in 2017 beating Egypt 2-1 but hosting the last edition, Cameroon won Bronze beating Burkina Faso via penalty 5-3 after the grueling match ended 3-3.

Nigeria ranked 42 in the world is making her 26th appearance at AFCON. She is three times champion with some impressive podium finish. She got Bronze at Ethiopia 76 beating Egypt 3-2; bagged another Bronze in Ghana 78 beating Tunisia 2-0; won in Lagos at 1980 beating Algeria 3-0; got the Silver in three consecutive competitions - Ivory Coast 1984 losing to Cameroon 3-1, at Morocco 88 losing again to Cameroon 0-1 and Algeria 90 losing to Algeria by a lone goal.

Nigeria got Bronze at Senegal 92 beating rivals Cameroon 2-1; became champions at Tunisia 94 with a 2-1 win over Zambia; again lost to Cameroon when Nigeria/Ghana hosted in 2000 via 4-3 penalty shootouts after 2-2 scores to bag the Silver; Got the Bronze with a lone goal victory over Mali at Mali 2002;  back to Tunisia in 2004 Nigeria won Bronze with a lone goal victory over Senegal; at Egypt 2006 Nigeria again beat Senegal 1-0 to win the Bronze; in 2010 at Angola Nigeria beat Algeria by a lone goal to win Bronze; she came back at South Africa 2013 under Stephen Keshi to win the trophy beating the Stallions of Burkina Faso by a lone goal scored by Sunday Mba and in 2019 she got the Bronze at Egypt in a lone goal victory over Tunisia. Please note that only podium finish records are presented concerning Nigeria.

Equatorial Guinea will tackle Guinea at Outtara in another Round of 16 at 6pm tomorrow Sunday while Egypt will parade her stars against DR Congo in yet another Round of 16 game at San Pedro same Sunday at 9pm.

I’m Not Impressed With Your Performance In AFCON – Tinubu Tells Super Eagles

I’m Not Impressed With Your Performance In AFCON – Tinubu Tells Super Eagles

President Bola Tinubu has urged the Super Eagles to improve their performance at Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, and do better in the final stages of the ongoing tournament in Cote d’Ivoire, saying he was not impressed with the group matches.

Tinubu’s message was delivered through the Minister of Sports, John Enoh, who spoke to the players from Abuja via Zoom on Wednesday night in Abidjan.

According to Enoh, the President said he was not too impressed with the showing of the team during the group stage.

The minister said, “I had a meeting with the President yesterday. I went to the villa for something else and the President cornered me and said we (Eagles) managed to qualify and I said that’s how we are going to keep going until we win the tournament.

“He said that I should tell the players that he wasn’t too impressed with the last match but he knows that now that they are off the group stages, they are going to impress him more.

First of all, I want to greet the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria," Suspected kidnapper begins speech in hilarious manner before denying being a kidnapper

First of all, I want to greet the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria," Suspected kidnapper begins speech in hilarious manner before denying being a kidnapper

The alleged kidnapper, Chinaza Philip-Okoye, who was arrested in Abuja, has claimed that hes a car robber and not a kidnapper. Recall that the suspect was arrested by a combined team of FCT and Kaduna police officers in Kaduna last week when the police swooped in on him and his gang members, now at large, while they were taking an alleged kidnap victim, Segun Akinyemi from Abuja to Kano State. Speaking to journalists on Wednesday, January 24, during a parade of criminal suspects at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Police command, Chinaza, claimed he and his gang specialise in stealing cars and selling them in Kano.  First of all, I want to greet the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” he said “Anything I say today, let it be recorded. I know some people will say I am lying. The only thing I am going to say is the truth and nothing but the truth,” he explained.  Between God and man; the God that created Heaven and earth. Im not a kidnapper. I haven’t kidnapped anybody,” Probed further, he said; “we only patrol at night and collect cars, and we take them to Kano for sale,” That night, our aim was to rob the man and take his car, but I was surprised that after we collected his car, yellow, who is like our leader, asked the man to enter the back of the car. I didnt know why he did that, and I couldnt argue with him, so we were driving to Kano before the police caught up with us in Kaduna where I was arrested,”  Recall that the police were notified of Akinyemis abduction when the kidnappers drove through Rita Lori, Garki, Abuja, on Thursday night, so the FCT Police Command alerted all police formations in the FCT and neighbouring states of Kaduna, Nasarawa, Niger, and Kogi.  The FCT anti-kidnapping operatives chased them into Kaduna State before other gang members fled, and Chinaza Phillip-Okoye was shot at and apprehended by a team of FCT policemen and Kaduna State police officers, and the victim was rescued unhurt and his vehicle recovered. The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, who paraded Chinaza on Saturday, said the gang ran out of luck as they were intercepted by police operatives at a filling station in Kaduna where three of them escaped, while one by them, Chinaza Philip-Okoye was arrested, and the victim rescued unhurt. In a proactive move, following a report on the abduction of a victim from his house along with his Hilux Van with Reg. No. RBC 90 DL Gray colour by four armed men who disguised in a white Mercedes Benz 230 car, Police Operatives in an intelligence-propelled investigation discovered that the victim was being taken to Kano State, but was dispossessed of his ATM cards at Kaduna while the sum of N500,000.00 was transferred from his account,” Adejobi stated.  “The suspects however ran out of luck as they were intercepted by Police operatives at a filling station in Kaduna where three of them escaped, while one by the name Chinaza Philip Okoye Michael was arrested, the victim rescued unhurt, and the said Hilux Van recovered It was discovered that Chinaza Philip Okoye Michael and his accomplices had earlier been arrested sometime in November 2023 and charged for similar offences, at the High Court, Kwali, Abuja, but went back to committing even worse crimes while on court bail.”

OLAWEPO-HASHIM, OTHERS CELEBRATE 100 YEARS LENIN’S PASSING

PRESS RELEASE

OLAWEPO-HASHIM, OTHERS CELEBRATE 100 YEARS LENIN’S PASSING

Tuesday, 23 January, 2024, Abuja, Nigeria

A former presidential candidate and Businessman, Mr Gbenga Olawepo Hashim on Monday in Abuja, joined others “admirers of his ideals” to celebrate the 100 years of the passing of Russia's founding socialist leader Vladimir Lenin.

The event was coordinated by former Veteran Journalist and former Secretary General of the Organization of African Trade Union, Comrade Owei Lakemfa.

At the occasion were many left wing academics, trade unionists, former students’ union leaders, journalists and diplomats, including Professor Warisu Ali, the Ambassadors of Cuba and Palestine to Nigeria, and other dignitaries.

Vladimir Ilyich Ulyanov, better known as Vladimir Lenin, was a Russian revolutionary, politician, and political theorist.

He served as the first and founding head of the government of Soviet Russia from 1917 to 1924 and of the Soviet Union from 1922 to 1924.

Olawepo-Hashim who was nicknamed "Lenin" in his student days because of his deep study, connection and admiration for the Russian ideological leader, joined other ideological leaders to celebrate a man who shaped their teenage understanding of global politics.

While explaining the personality of Lenin and the significance of his contribution to Russia's emergence as a superpower, Olawepo-Hashim maintained that Lenin's Ideals transformed backward Russia into a technologically advanced society and a Super Power.

His internationalist perspective, he noted, laid the foundations of solidarity of USSR and its Successor State (Russia) with the people who lived in colonized territories of Africa and Asia.

He added that Russia's policy supported freedom from colonial rule in Africa from colonisation from your capitalist friends and so the Russians are our friends and we shall continue to celebrate the legacy of their greatest leader.

Responding to a comment about the autocracy ad authoritarianism of Lenin and Communism, Olawepo-Hashim argued that “although not everything that happened under Lenin were good but you cannot say someone who implemented electrification of all of Russia in 5years under a New Economic Program is not a champion.”

“Imagine that Nigeria, a "Capitalist state" with so much freedom is wallowing in darkness 100 years after electrification of Russia, you still think there is nothing to learn in Lenin's legacy?” he asked.

According to him, “I am not a communist but there is something to learn from a man who gave free health to all his citizens compared to our "capitalist" Nigeria where people are dying everyday from  treatable diseases.

Plane crash which killed former Chief of Army Staff was not an accident ”- Retired General reveals

“Plane crash which killed former Chief of Army Staff was not an accident ”- Retired General reveals

Retired Major General Danjuma Ali-Keffi, former General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 1 Division of the Nigerian Army, has raised serious concerns about the fatal air crash that claimed the life of former Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Ibrahim Attahiru, and 11 other senior military officers.

In an exclusive interview with THISDAY, Ali-Keffi contends that the crash is intricately linked to terror financiers, urging President Bola Tinubu to launch an immediate investigation into the incident.

Ali-Keffi, who expressed his reservations about the official investigation, alleges a deliberate suppression of critical details surrounding the crash.

He emphasized that the full report of the investigation has not been disclosed to the public, adding an air of suspicion to the circumstances leading up to the tragic incident.

The retired general asserts that Attahiru was pivotal in formulating strategies to eradicate terrorism in Northern Nigeria.

Ali-Keffi contends that the late army chief’s efforts to tackle terrorism extended to exposing and neutralizing terror financiers.

In a detailed account of the events leading to the crash, Ali-Keffi raises questions about the abrupt changes in the scheduled trip, alterations in the choice of aircraft, and modifications in the landing airport.

He points to a sequence of unusual events, including the aircraft’s descent in stormy weather, a delayed departure, and an ear-shattering explosion before the crash, casting doubt on the official narrative.

Ali-Keffi explained, “About 2100 hrs on Thursday 20 May 2021, I spoke on phone with the Chief of Staff (COS) to the late COAS regarding their impending trip to Kaduna the following day (21 May 2021).

I had earlier spoken with General Attahiru on the same issue. We ended our conversation on the note that the late COAS and entourage would come by flight at about 1000 hrs the following day.

“About 0630 hrs the following morning, I called the COS to the late COAS to confirm if their travel plan was as we discussed the night before, as I needed to make arrangements for the Mosque that the COAS would attend Jummu’at (Friday) prayers.

“The COS informed me that there was a change of plan. He said after we finished speaking last night, they received a message that the late COAS was to attend a meeting either at the Honourable Minister of Defence (HMOD) office or at the Presidential Villa at about 1000 hrs on Friday 21 May 2021 and that the late COAS was to attend in person and not send a representative.

“It is important to note that the late COAS’ trip to Kaduna was part of his visit to Zaria to attend the Passing Out Parade at the Depot NA slated for Saturday 22 May 2021.

“It is worth noting that the movement of service chiefs out of station (Abuja) is with the prior knowledge of the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), the Honourable Minister of Defence (HMOD), and the presidency.

“So, why was a meeting scheduled for about the same time that the late COAS was to have departed for (or arrived) Kaduna and why the insistence that he (COAS) should not be represented?

“In any case, the COS informed me that in view of the meeting, they would depart the Flag House (official residence of the COAS) at about 1530 hrs (after attending the meeting and also after the Jummu’ at prayers) for the airport.

“They expected to arrive the airport at about 1600 hrs, board the aircraft at about 1610 – 1615 hrs and depart for Kaduna. At about 1600 hrs, I was informed that they had arrived the Presidential Wing of the Airport. I then set off from the Stallion House (official residence of the GOC) with my entourage in a convoy and arrived the Air Force Base at about 1615 hrs.

“For reasons that I cannot understand till today, the flight was delayed for over an hour and did not take off until 1730 hrs or there about. The reason for the delay, as I was informed, was that there was issue with the aircraft that was initially assigned for the mission (to convey the COAS and his entourage) and that it had to be changed.”

Ali-Keffi also disclosed, “Meantime, there was a meteorological alert that Kaduna airspace was going to experience heavy rainfall accompanied with the storm (wind shear), and it was advised. Already, the cloud had formed in Kaduna, which was visible to us at the airport.

“As a matter of fact, the cloud was so thick, which was indicative of a massive storm. I began to nurse doubts about the flight. At some point, I voiced my doubts to Air Commodore Iyamu and Air Commodore Ilo, who were with me to receive the COAS.

“I even suggested that they should advise Abuja of weather conditions with a view to having the flight cancelled. At that point, I was informed that the aircraft was airborne (at about 1745 hrs). I became concerned as to whether the aircraft would be able to land at the airport in such a heavy rainfall, storm (the rain had started falling then).

“Thus, I was not surprised when Air Commodore Ilo informed me that we had go to the Civil (International Airport) as the NAF runway was not long enough to enable the aircraft land under the atrocious weather condition. We then set off for the International Airport but at a snail speed due to the heavy rainfall, which was accompanied with shale (ice particles).”

The former GOC said, “When we got to the vicinity of the airport, there was a thunderous sound, which I thought was the sound of thunder. We had earlier cited what I believed was the aircraft descending to land on the runway. When we turned the bend to enter the tarmac, the thought on my mind was that the aircraft had touched down and was taxing to the parking area.

“I couldn’t see any aircraft on the runway. I frantically looked around, and by the far side of the runway, there was a fireball. It was the aircraft conveying General Attahiru! We got out the vehicles, crossed the runway and approached the burning aircraft. Fire fighters were on hand to put out the blaze. At some point we had to pull back due to the fear of exploding cylinders.

“We later recovered the corpses of the 10 passengers on board the ill-fated plane far from where the plane wreckage was. Apparently, their bodies, which were on fire, were flung from the aircraft before it came down (already in flames). Furthermore, the aircraft (or what was left of it), at least what I could recollect, was on a relatively flat grassland.

“There was no crater. This was indicative of a mid-air explosion. So, what caused the aircraft to explode? I wonder what the Air Safety and Accident Investigation Bureau report says about the incident.”

Ali-Keffi further queried, “Was the flight deliberately delayed in order to be caught up in the rainstorm? Was the aircraft sabotaged, which caused it to explode mid-air? Was the explosion caused by explosives? Was a bomb planted in the aircraft or contained in a parcel, which a passenger unknowingly (or knowingly) carried?”

CIVIL DEFENCE OFFICER'S WIVES ASSOCIATION CONDUCTS FREE MEDICAL SCREENING FOR PERSONNEL IN FCT.

PRESS RELEASE

REF NO/CMDT/012/CDPRO/FCT/ABJ/VOL 03/01

CIVIL DEFENCE OFFICER'S WIVES ASSOCIATION CONDUCTS FREE MEDICAL SCREENING FOR PERSONNEL IN FCT.

The Civil Defence Officers’ Wives Association (CDOWA) has conducted free medical screening for its members and personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), FCT Command.

The Association held its 2024 first quarterly retreat, themed “Promoting healthy lifestyle for peaceful homefront” on Friday at the NSCDC FCT Command.

During the retreat, various medical screenings such as free blood pressure tests, eye test, sugar level checks amongst others, were carried out.

CDOWA Chairperson, Mrs Olayinka Odumosu said that the medical screening was to ensure officers and men not excluding their wives, were in good health conditions.

Odumosu said that said that the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle cannot be overemphasized as this would help promote effective work delivery.

“Let us give more attention to our mental well-being, recognise health as a universal right, not a privilege and collectively take care of ourselves.

“As women we need to understand that health is a holistic concept which extends beyond the absence of illness to complete physical, mental and social well-being.

“The free medical outreach emphasizes the profound connection between health and our roles as mother and wives,” she said.

The Chairperson described maintaining a healthy lifestyle as a precious asset that shapes the quality of lives, allowing women to pursue dreams, contribute to socials and  fulfill human potential.

She further charged CDOWA members and female officers of the Command to ensure a peaceful home that would ensure male personnel thrived in fulfilling their basic responsibilities.

“My role goes beyond presiding over meetings but to foster an environment where ideas flourish, collaboration thrives and a place where every member feels valued.

“ I commit to ensuring that our meetings become forums for constructive dialogue, celebrating diverse perspectives that lead to innovative solutions and inclusions,” the Chairperson said.

The Chairperson who is the wife of NSCDC FCT Commandant, Olusola Odumosu, urged members to serve as intelligence informants to the Corps.

She said that because civil defenders lived amongst civilians and not in barracks, they should use the opportunity to get grassroot information that could be beneficial to security agencies.

Dr Ozy Okonokhua, Convener of the medical team advocated for regular health checks, adding that, it was unfortunate many people took medical check ups for granted.

“Change of diets also exposes us to potential health risks which might manifest over time and not immediately.

“Regular checkup is more important in the life of a woman because of her responsibilities at home and to the nation.

“We have had people die of high blood pressure due to their ignorance. Blood pressure might not give signs unless it’s checked regularly,”Okonokhua said.

Drama as hospital returns patient to husband’s shop in Ibadan

Drama as hospital returns patient to husband’s shop in Ibadan

Residents of Desalu Street, Odo-Ona, in the Ibadan South-West Local Government Area of Oyo State, were thrown into confusion on Friday afternoon as a sick woman identified as Blessing Ayeni was dropped at the frontage of her husband’s shop by officials of an undisclosed hospital.

According to an eyewitness, Remilekun Tawose, officials of the hospital claimed that Blessing had been abandoned at the hospital since last year.

For this reason, the hospital was left with no option other than bringing her to the known address of her husband, which is his shop where he sells alcoholic drinks.

TribuneOnline gathered that representatives of the hospital told some residents that they had on a series of occasions visited the husband to come take responsibility for the medical bills of his sick wife without any positive response from him.

The hospital representatives, according to Tawose, also claimed that the immediate family members of Blessing initially showed up at the hospital but later stopped for reasons unknown to the hospital authority.

As of the time TribuneOnline got to where the sick woman was dropped, she was still lying on the floor, looking frail under the scorching sun, while residents watched helplessly.

Tawose, while speaking further with TribuneOnline, said, “The reason we don’t know what to do at the moment is that officials of the hospital told us that we should not move closer to the sick woman because the ailment she is suffering from is contagious.”

Efforts to locate Blessing’s husband to get his side of the story proved abortive, as he was nowhere to be found, just as his shop was under lock.

Man Beheads Woman In Hotel Room, Flees With Her Head

It was a scene of horror on Friday morning when staff members of a hotel woke to find the decapitated body of a woman in Yola, the Adamawa State capital.

It was gathered that a man on Thursday, January 18 checked into the hotel with the lady at about 7 pm. Her headless body was later found by the hotel workers while the man reportedly fled with the head.

According to one of the staff members, the man drugged his victim before cutting off her head.

The staff member who spoke to newsmen on condition of anonymity said, “This is a rude shock. He left the hotel after one and a half hours, purportedly to pick up some items at a nearby store.”

The State police command confirmed the incident on Friday morning.

The spokesperson for the command, SP Suleiman Nguroje said, “Yes, a lady was found dead in a hotel here in Yola, this morning.

“Some narcotics were also recovered from the room. But at the moment, we’re still investigating because we currently have three suspects in our custody in connection to the crime.”

MIYETTI ALLAH LUNCH OF NOMAD VIGILANTE Is ANOTHER FULANIZATION AGENDA THAT MUST BE RESISTED- IPOB.

PRESS RELEASE,
19th January, 2024.

MIYETTI ALLAH LUNCH OF NOMAD VIGILANTE Is ANOTHER FULANIZATION AGENDA THAT MUST BE RESISTED- IPOB.

The attention of the global family and movement of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) ably led by the great prophet and liberator Mazi Nnamdi Okwuchukwu Kanu has been drawn to the lunching of the so-called Nomad Vigilante group by a Fulani terrorist sponsor Miyetti Allah in Nasarawa State of Nigeria.

IPOB is not against anyone, group, or ethnic groups for setting up vigilante groups to defend themselves since Nigeria's security architecture have been heavily compromised and failed and infiltrated by terrorists and sponsors. However, we are concerned about the code name and the stated mission behind the formation of the Fulani vigilante group formed by Miyetti Allah. From their stated mission, this Fulani Nomad Vigilante group formed by Miyetti Allah will work with the Nigerian Security Forces to secure and protect the country. It means that the agenda is to Nationalize the Fulani Nomad Vigilante.

How can a known terrorist group that is terrorizing the entire country form a security outfit to secure the same people that they are terrorizing?

Recall Miyetti Allah had proposed to form a Fulani Vigilante to operate across the entire States in Nigeria during the fulanized and murderous government of late Buhari. That was the reason the then Fulani Cabal's government of late Buhari gave Miyetti Allah terrorist organization 100b Niaira to acquire arms and ammunition. We are sure that with the cash award of 100b Naira and the billions they have realized from kidnapping ransom payments, they have acquired enough arms and ammunition to launch their agenda of nation-wide jihad against Nigerians. It is, however, sad that President Tinubu is a Fulani stooge to continue the fulanization conquest agenda. Yoruba president Ahmed Bola Tinubu will support them because if he fails to support them they will remove him the seat, Nigerians its unfortunate lets see what is going to happen in Nigeria soon.

The new idea of recruiting terrorists and bandits into what they branded as Nomad Vigilante is another strategy to fulanize the entire Nigeria since RUGA was defeated. Any state that allows the deceptive Fulani terrorists and bandits to take over their forest and bushes as Nomad Vigilantees is doomed and conquered. Therefore, IPOB is calling on all the indigenous peoples in Nigeria to wake up and resist this conquest agenda of the Fulani invaders using the name of National Nomad Vigilante. If you don't want to continue the mass burial of your people, wake up now and resist any Fulani vigilante in your state. Do not trust in the government of Tinubu to defend you because the government is compromised and fulani government operating.

However, IPOB worldwide, IPOB leadership, and ESN Operatives wish to warn Miyetti Allah to stay off every inch of Biafra territory with their Nomad terrorists vigilante group. Anywhere we see, Fulani terrorist Vigilante within the South East, South South, and other Biafran territories, we shall treat them as terrorists that they are.

Any day we see the resemblance of any Nomad terrorist vigilante in Biafran territory, we shall teach them the lesson of their lives. ESN Operatives have antidote to the Fulani madness. IPOB and ESN are ready to cooperate with the Middle Belt leaders and organizations to stop the fulanization agenda within their region, when they are ready. The latest Fulanization agenda must be resisted by Indigenous Peoples who want to survive.

The new fulanization agenda using the nomad terrorist vigilante group is dead on arrival in Biafra territory. Miyetti Allah should know that Biafran Land is a no-go area for their agenda. We defeated their previous agenda of flooding our forest and bushes with terrorists and we shall also defeat this current deceptive agenda of flooding bushes and forest with Fulani terrorist vigilantees. We advise them to bury their evil agenda in their territory because it would not fly down here in Biafraland.

There was a heated gunfire exchange, on Thursday, as the police rescued Segun Akinyemi, an Abuja resident, who was kidnapped just as he was driving out of his house.

The kidnappers were taking Akinyemi from Abuja to Kano State when the police swooped on them, according to Police Public Relations Officer in Kaduna, ASP Mansir Hassan.

"The Operatives, at about 0010 hours, blocked a grey Toyota Hilux van with registration number Abuja RBC 90 DC, carrying four passengers, the driver inclusive, suspected to be the vehicle conveying the kidnappers and their victim.”

Adebayor storms Eagles camp on solidarity visit ahead Elephants’ clash

Adebayor storms Eagles camp on solidarity visit ahead Elephants’ clash

Emmanuel Adebayor
Togo great and former Arsenal talisman Emmanuel Adebayor has visited Super Eagles hotel in solidarity ahead of their much awaited and talked about clash with Elephants of Cote d Ivoire later today.

Permutations and expectations are high as the seconds and minute tick towards today’s showdown billed for the Alassanne Quattara Stadium

Speaking ahead of the encounter, Adebayor expressed optimism that Napoli star striker Victor Osimhen will make the difference for the Super Eagles against Ivory Coast today.

Adebayor has, however, backed the Napoli hit man to make the difference for the Super Eagles against the Elephants today.

“I’m here in the Super Eagles hotel to support the team and offer my support to Osimhen.

“He is doing well and is a pride to our continent. We all must rally round him to give him our support,” the former Tottenham, Real Madrid and Manchester City player reportedly told Daily Post in Abidjan earlier.

Osimhen who scored the equaliser that saved the Eagles from defeat in the hands of Equatorial Guinea, is being tipped to continue in the line as the Jose Peseiro tutored side attempt to down the hosts who already have three points in the bag after beating Guinea Bissau 2-0 in the opening match of the tournament.

A win for the hosts will shoot them into the knock out stage with a match to spare. The Eagles some say need to win the match to keep their hope of progressing into the knockout stage alive.

At the last edition hosted by Cameroon the Eagles failed to fly above Carthage Eagles of Tunisia thus hitting the exit door in the round of 16.

2023 AFCON: Super Eagles Of Nigeria Record First-Ever Win Against Elephants In Ivory Coast

2023 AFCON: Super Eagles Of Nigeria Record First-Ever Win Against Elephants In Ivory Coast

For the first time in the history of African football, the Super Eagles of Nigeria have recorded their first-ever win on the soil of the Elephants of Ivory Coast.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria went into the game with the pressure of sitting as low as third place in Group A which means that they needed to win to stand a chance of making it out of the group.

Recall that the Nigerian team led by coach Jose Peseiro recorded a 1-1 draw in their opening group stage game against Equatorial Guinea. This came after the hosts of the 2023 AFCON, Ivory Coast, recorded a win in their opening group-stage game against Guinea-Bissau.

The pressure was intensified earlier today when Equatorial Guinea defeated Guinea-Bissau in their second group-stage game. The massive 4-2 win over the Djurtus lifted them to the top of Group A with four points in two games.

Hence, the Super Eagles were condemned to beat the Ivorians, and fortunately, they recorded the needed win though the hosts looked more compact throughout the game.

The lone goal that made all the difference was scored by the captain of the Super Eagles, William Troost-Ekong from the penalty spot after Victor Osimhen was fouled in the box.

The 1-0 win means that the Super Eagles of Nigeria now have 4 points in two games, but they are still sitting second behind Equatorial Guinea on goal difference.

As it stands, the Eagles need at least a draw against Guinea-Bissau on January 22 to guarantee their progress to the round of 16.

US based Nigerian, Dr Ayo Otiko discovers world most potent drug for diabetic ulcer

A United States of America, USA, based Nigerian Medical Doctor, Christopher Ayo Otiko has discovered a drug called TETRACYTE for the treatment of diabetic ulcer.

The drug has been medically certified as the world’s most potent drug for the treatment of diabetic ulcer, according to the Drugs Agency in the United States as it “heals ten times faster than any available drug for the treatment of diabetic ulcer”.

Dr Otiko, who is the Chief Executive Officer and Executive Medical Director, ViaDerma Inc, hails from Akure, Ondo State. He is currently in Nigeria on the invitation of some government agencies interested in collaborating and partnering with him.

Dr Otiko, a Podiatric Specialist, who has nearly 20 years of medical experience as a foot and ankle surgeon, treating such conditions as life threatening burns among others, is Board Certified in the prevention and treatment of Diabetic wounds.

Dr. Otiko’s commitment to patient care and cutting-edge medical technology had led him to also found numerous healthcare businesses that provide specialty products.

He has been treating patients suffering from the devastating effects of peripheral neuropathy for the past 18 (eighteen) years and there is no treatment as effective as Neurogenx.

A short profile of Dr. Christopher Ayo Otiko a Nigerian born Medical Doctor in the United States, showed that he completed his graduate studies at Oklahoma State University and earned his Doctorate from the California College of Podiatric Medicine in San Francisco with residencies at Pacific Coast Hospital and San Francisco General Hospital.

According to the profile, “The Podiatry specialist who has nearly 20 years of medical experience as a foot and ankle surgeon, treating such conditions as life threatening burns etc, is Board Certified in the prevention and treatment of Diabetic wounds.

“Dr. Otiko’s commitment to patient care and cutting-edge medical technology had led him to found numerous healthcare businesses that provide specialty products.

“He has been treating patients suffering from the devastating effects of peripheral neuropathy for the past 18 years and there is no treatment as effective as Neurogenx.

“Dr Otiko wants to devote the rest of his career to treating as many people as possible- to relieve their pain and help them get their lives back, and this led to the innovative creation of a new type of topical antibiotic, Vitastem, which is a major contributor to his unbelievable success story in diabetes treatment.

“Vitastem is approved and acknowledged by the Food and Drugs agency in the United States to be the world’s most potent drug for the treatment of Diabetes, as the drug heals *ten times faster* than any available drug for the treatment of diabetes.

Champions, Lions of Cameroon Struggle to Hold 10 Men Sylli Nationals of Guinea with 1-1 in AFCON Duel.

Champions, Lions of Cameroon Struggle to Hold 10 Men Sylli Nationals of Guinea with 1-1 in AFCON Duel.

Former African Champions, the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon on Monday at the Boigny Stadium in Yamoussoukro struggled hard to force a draw with ten men Sylli National of Guinea in a second match in Group C at the ongoing African Nations Cup in Ivory Coast.

Guinea came for business though on paper they are minnows to Cameroon but Guinea struck in the 10th minute of play when France born 26 year old Le Houpe FC of France player, Mohammed Bayo neatly beat the Cameroonian keeper for the first goal of the night. Onan who should have been in goal for Cameroon stayed back for Manchester United of Britain and the Cameroonian defence failed to clear their lines properly for Guinea to score.
Cover photo is the Guinea goal.
Tragedy struck for Guinea when their Captain Francois Kamano was yellow carded in 45+2 minutes for a deliberate back stud on his opponent but a VAR review of the incident turned Yellow to Red Card. Kamano became the second BAD BOY of AFCON 24 as earlier, Captain of the Scorpions of Gambia, Ebou Adams of Cardiff FC in UK was red carded in 45+8 minute in the 0-3 loss to defending Champions, Senegal.

Cameroon fought like the proverbial wounded Lions and rampaging N’koudu found France born and Toulouse of France player, Frank Magri who is on Yellow card to provide the much needed equalizer in the 51st minute.

According to the Stats table of the match, Cameroon should have won easily with 14-6 shots at goal; 70-30% ball possession meaning the Lions were in full control of the game; Cameroon stringed 447 passes with 81% accuracy to 204 of Guinea with 60% accuracy meaning they could have taken advantage of their opponents with better planning; there were equal foul records of 14 -14 meaning both teams adopted the famous NO GREE FOR YOUR OPPONENT AT AFCON and Cameroon got 5-0 corner kicks meaning they were hopeless planners and finishers, so wasteful.

With the stats, the second round group matches look like a no hope situation when the two Lions meet, Senegal versus Cameroon on Friday 19th January at 6pm when Guinea will meet Gambia at 9pm same day.

Senegal leads group C with 3 goals and 3 points; Cameroon is second with a goal and a point; Guinea is 3rd with a goal and a point while Gambia is at the bottom with no goal and no point.

Six times Cameroon and Guinea met and it was two wins each and two draws. On 16th August 2006 Cameroon played 1-1 in a friendly at Yaoundé; on 23rd July 2007 Cameroon beat Guinea by a lone goal in another friendly at Yaoundé; 12th February 2009 Cameroon won a friendly 3-1; both teams played 1-1 at an AFCON match on 25th January 2009; Guinea won 2-1 in a friendly on 29th March 2017 at Yaoundé and on 7th February 2021 Guinea won 2-0 at Nations Championship.

Ghana suffer Defeat from blue sharks of cape Verde(Afcon Group B)

Blue Sharks of Cape Verde Eats Black Stars of Ghana Raw 2-1 in a Shocking AFCON Group B Match.

Former African Champions, Black Stars of Ghana got an embarrassing knock from the Blue Sharks of Cape Verde who ate them raw 2-1 in the second match of Group B at the Stade Felix Houpheouet-Boigny, Abidjan.

It was a day Ghana’s hustle was not acceptable to Heaven as America’s San Jose Earthquake Midfielder; Jamiro Monteiro scored the opener in the 17th minute through a solo effort.

Ghana made brilliant efforts to equalize with a ball rolling off the arm of their attacker and hitting the upright and the goal mouth melee caught three Ghanaian players offside diffusing a blaster of a goal that was celebrated by the Black Stars only for VAR to overrule in the 37th minute when Cape Verdes’ Keeper complained his view was impaired by the three players who blocked his view.

The equalizer eventually came from a mathematical corner kick taken by Jordan Ayew that Fernabache Centre Back; Alexander Djiku converted into goal in the 56th minute of play. Djiku was virtually the best Black Star on the field as he blocked many goal bound shots saving Ghana from being rolled in the mud by Cape Verde.

Ghana called in Andrew Ayew who was playing his 8th AFCON tournament equaling the record of former Cameroon Captain and present Coach, Rigobert Song and Ahmed of Egypt; if he had scored he would have been the first player to score in seven AFCON tournaments.

AS it happened with Egypt scoring late goal, Tavares got Garry Rodrigues in 90+2 minutes who slammed in the winner and took off like a jet in to the stands to celebrate his goal pulling off his jersey in the process. The Centre Ref on his return flashed him a befitting yellow card for his iniquities.

The loss became a headache to Ghana who are now like a chicken that flew unto a rope meant to spread clothes and the chicken will be definitely uncomfortable.

The group is still open by the results of the first group matches but the group second round matches will be played on Thursday 18th January when Egypt face Ghana at 2100 hours in a decisive match and Cape Verde will meet Mozambique on Friday 19th January at 1500 hours.

The Blue Sharks of Cape Verde always suffer heavy defeat from West African countries as she lost 1-5 to Senegal in Mali on 12th February 1984; lost to Ghana 0-4 at home in Praia on 8th October 2005; lost 0-4 to Guinea in Conakry on 9th September 2007; lost 0-4 to Burkina Faso in Ougadougu on 14th November 2017 but also lost to Algeria 1-5 in Constantine on 12th October 2023.

Ghana ranked 61 in the world and Cape Verde ranked 73 met twice. On 5th September 2004 Ghana beat the Sharks 2-0 in a world cup match and on 2nd February 2013 it was another 2-0 for Ghana in AFCON match.

Cape Verde is appearing for the 4th time but her best result was a quarterfinal at South Africa 2013 when Ghana dismissed her 2-0 at Port Elizabeth on 2nd February 2013.

Cape Verde had on 12th October 2021 lost 1-5 to Algeria in a friendly match; lost to lowly rated Comoros Island 1-2 in a friendly on 17th October 2923; Angola forced Cape Verde to 0-0 in a world cup match on home ground on 16th November 2023; The Sharks swallowed Eswatini 2-0 in a world cup encounter on 21st November 2023 and on 10th January 2024 Tunisia crushed the Sharks 2-0 in a friendly.

The Black Stars of Ghana lost to Mexico in a friendly 0-2 on 15th October 2023; lost 0-4 to USA in another friendly on 18th October 2023; on 17th November 2023 Ghana piped Madagascar by a lone goal in a world cup duel; shockingly Comoros Island dimmed the Black Stars 1-0 in a world cup match on 21st November 2023 and on 8th January 2024 Ghana played Goalless with Namibia in a friendly.

Ghana is four times champions of Africa. Ghana first lifted the trophy hosting in 1963 by beating Sudan 3-0; Ghana won again in 1965 in Tunisia beating Tunisia 3-2 after extra time; it was a Silver at Ethiopia 68 when Democratic Republic of Congo surprisingly won by a lone goal; at Sudan 70 Ghana again lost this time to Sudan by a lone goal in the final; Ghana won in 1978 while hosting beating Uganda Cranes 2-0 and also in Libya 82 on 7-6 penalties after 1-1 at full time; In Senegal 92 Ghana lost via penalty in the finals to Ivory Coat 11-10 on pens after goalless match; in South Africa 96 she lost 0-1 to Zambia to place 4th.

Ghana co-hosted with Nigeria in 2000 but got no honors; in 2008 she hosted and won Bronze beating Ivory Coast 4-2; she narrowly lost the trophy by a lone goal to Egypt at Angola 2010; placed 4th losing to Mali 0-2 when Equatorial Guinea and Gabon hosted in 2012; placed 4th again at South Africa 2013 losing to Mali 1-3; stopped by Ivory Coast to win the trophy at Equatorial Guinea in 2015 and in 2017 at Gabon placed 4th losing the Bronze to Burkina Faso by a lone goal.

Tomorrow Monday Senegal will open the day against Gambia at the Konan Banny Stadium, Yamoussoukro at 2pm in group C and the second group C match will be played at 5pm between Cameroon and Guinea while a group D match between Algeria and Angola is at 8pm at the Stade de la Paix Bouake.
