After they taught me how to hack, I started Bumbing (collecting money from white People) –Suspect

According to Independent Nigeria, An Islamic cleric identified as Gbolahan has shared his experience of being lured by a friend to join a training centre called ‘Hustle Kingdom’ in Delta State. The centre, controlled by a group of internet fraudsters commonly known as "Yahoo Boys," operated as a hub for cybercrime activities. Gbolahan revealed that he had been deceived into joining the centre under the guise of learning Bitcoin and forex trading but soon discovered it was a front for internet fraud.

Last week, Gbolahan was among 123 suspected fraudsters arrested during a raid carried out by soldiers from the 3 Battalion of the Nigerian Army. The raid took place at the Army Estate in Effurun, Delta State. Following their arrest, the suspects were handed over to the Ekpan Police Divisional Headquarters in Uvwie Local Government Area for further investigation. The individuals, aged between 17 and 25, were part of a notorious cybercrime syndicate known as "HK" (Hustle Kingdom), which had been operating as a training school for internet fraudsters.

Reports indicate that many of the young men involved in the "HK" syndicate were lured with promises of financial gain through cryptocurrency trading, only to find themselves involved in fraudulent schemes. Gbolahan, who had initially sought financial help from a friend to pursue his Islamic education in Egypt, found himself trapped in the world of cybercrime. His request for assistance turned into a nightmare when he was introduced to the unlawful activities conducted at the training centre.

The cleric explained that his refusal to fully participate in the illegal activities almost cost him his life. He claimed that his life was threatened, forcing him to cooperate with the syndicate. During his time at the centre, Gbolahan was taught various methods of internet fraud, including hacking and romance scams. He described how the group used social media to lure unsuspecting victims, particularly foreigners, into fake online relationships for financial gain.

In a video shared online by the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Gbolahan explained that once they established contact with their victims, they would engage in fraudulent schemes. These scams often involved pretending to be in financial distress and convincing their victims to send money. He mentioned that his life had been significantly impacted, as he had been cut off from his relatives for nearly nine months while involved in the syndicate’s operations.

He said: “After they taught me how to hack, I started ‘bumbing’. The bumbing is that they will give us the page where all those white people are, so we would be commenting on their section that they should add us. That we love their posts and everything they share. After they add us, we will put them for relationship that we love them. After that, we will now bill them that we are in serious problems that they should help us.”

Abdulsalami told President Tinubu the plain truth

Abdulsalami told President Tinubu the plain truth

President Bola Tinubu and Abdusalami Abubakar
On June 9, 1998 the day he was to be retired from the army by late Military Head of State General Sani Abacha, fate instead intervened to make General Abulsalaami Abubakar the head of state when Abacha mysteriously passed on.

Before then General Abdulsalaami endured a torrid time under his boss. His was under round the clock surveillance physically and electronically by the hyper paranoid Abacha. The decision by General Abacha who had survived several coup attempts, to sack top military officers of which Gen. Abdulsalami was top on the list was to enable Abacha advance his plans for transmuting from military to civilian president.

But it never happened and what we do know was that Gen, Abdulsalami took over under inauspicious times for Nigeria following the death of Abacha. And the situation was made even more so when a few months after, the assumed winner of the June 12 elections Chief M.K.O Abiola who was in detention then, also died mysteriously.

It was under these tasking circumstances that Gen. Abdulsalami as Head of State steadily guided the ship of state and implemented a transition programme that returned the country to civil democratic rule within a year in 1999.

Thus the civilian democratic dispensation we practice today was mainly due to the steadfastness and principled commitment of General Abdulsalaami. Up until the time of his had fate not intervened, General Abacha who was in absolute and unchallenged control of the military and political process in Nigeria would likely had succeeded in his plans to transform himself from military to civilian dictator. Most of the political elite then had shamelessly and opportunistically caved in and some of them were even collaborating with Abacha in his plans to throw the country what was certainly a potential political crisis. Others in the name of fighting for democracy had cowardly turned tail and scampered to their bolt holes abroad living it up and sending news releases of their ‘’struggle’’.

It was Gen. Abdulsalaami who opened the political space and allowed those who were cowering in fear in Nigeria and those who cowardly fled abroad to come return and participate in the democratic process. The General literarily had to walk through the valley of the shadow of death to restore democracy in Nigeria thus making it possible for political parties and their candidates to contest and win the elections ushering the new civilian democratic dispensation we are now in.

Gen Abdulsalami is a demure man. He is not given to flippancy and garrulous self- glorification about his sterling role in the restoration of democracy in Nigeria. He has not talked publicly about his travail under Abacha as Chief of Defence Staff. He has not even granted interviews about the enormous personal and official pressures and challenges he encountered while trying to keep his promise to return Nigeria to civilian rule. He has not talked about pressures mounted on him by some opportunistic political players to renege on his commitment to install democracy within one year. Nor has he talked about pressures by some of his closest colleagues and others at large to ban certain politicians with heavy political and moral baggages from participating in the political process. If he had succumbed to such pressures, certain political figures strutting around the political stage today would not have made it.

However behind the demure outlook of the infantry general however, lies a keen, sharp mind especially as regards political and social developments in Nigeria. As a soldier and statesman who had faced and been involved in some of the most trying challenges in this country the General had cause to recently lament of the current situation of hardship in the country when he hosted the Niger state branch of the Campaign for Democracy in his Minna residence. He said: ‘’The hardship in the land is getting out of control. Everybody is crying of this hardship and it seems to be getting out of control, people cannot afford three square meals, the issue of transportation, the hike in fuel, the hike in school fees for the children and the lack of funds in everybody’s pocket is making life difficult for everybody’’.

General Abdulsalaami’s statement was not made out of context. Many top Nigerians have made similar statements on the situation in the country. The latest of such high profile statements came from Iba Gani Adams, the Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yoruba land who carpeted President Tinubu and pointedly told him to review some of the harsh policies in order to avert a looming social catastrophe in the country.

These statements are not mere idle talk; they represent the real situation in Nigeria under President Bola Tinubu. I recently gifted a senior civil servant five thousand naira rather hesitantly because I thought the amount was too small for a man of his status. I was however surprised when teary-eyed he told with the money I had given him he was going to purchase grits from maize flour and mix it with ‘’kulikuli’’to serve as meal for the next three days for his household. This is as graphic a reality as it is under the Tinubu administration which General Abdulsalami talks about.

Whatever aura President Tinubu came with has now evaporated. An overwhelming number of Nigerians do not now believe or trust his words of exhortation that his ‘’economic reforms’’ such as it is, will improve Nigeria’s economic situations which has brought more poverty in the land than he met. And it is made worse by the fact that President Tinubu is neither a listening nor empathetic president. His arrogant and inappropriate replies to the statements by General Abdulsalami, Aare Gani Adams and Nigerians generally who are suffering under his harsh policies was ‘’ There are no free bears any more’’. Apparently the only ‘’free bears’’ available now are exclusively reserved for him, his family and his ‘’Baba so pe” flunkeys who dare not to tell him the true situation of things in the country he has laid low with a year of his assuming office as president.

If a personality as esteemed as General Abdulsalami and who is not given to flippancy can come out and voice his mind in the manner he did on the true situation in the country, then we need not be told that President has lost it. The wheels of his rickety wagon of state have all but fallen off and president Tinubu is for all practical purposes drifting along aimlessly on his own.

Across the country without exception President Tinubu has become a figure of contempt for his double standard of vainglorious ostentation and self-entitlement while subjecting Nigerians to a life of penury and deprivation.

When statesmen like Gen. Abdulsalami throw caution and practised discretion to the wind to make such telling interventions on existential issues in the country, then President Tinubu is better advised to take heed. This is the simple, plain truth contained in the message of the General.

Edo election: INEC official accepted $50,000 bribe from APC to manipulate results – Sources reveal

Edo election: INEC official accepted $50,000 bribe from APC to manipulate results – Sources reveal

Ann Aderibigbe, the Assistant Director of Electoral Operations at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) headquarters in Abuja, has been accused of accepting a bribe of $50,000 from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to manipulate the results of the recently concluded Edo governorship election.

According to a source close to the APC, Aderibigbe was promised not only a substantial cash sum but also a double promotion to the position of her current boss, the Director of Electoral Operations.

“This is a grave matter that compromises the integrity of the electoral commission,” the source stated, requesting anonymity due to the sensitive nature of the allegations.

He said: “The APC was desperate to secure a favourable outcome in the Edo elections and believed that manipulating the results was their best chance. They thought they could achieve this by corrupting key officials within INEC.”

The Edo governorship election, held on September 21, 2024, had already faced scrutiny over claims of overvoting and discrepancies in the INEC Result Viewing Portal (IREV).

Observers from various civil society organizations had raised concerns regarding the credibility of the results, with allegations of inflated vote counts and inadequate transparency in the collation process.

The allegations against Aderibigbe are particularly troubling, as they point to a systematic effort by the APC to undermine the electoral process.

As the dust settles from the Edo governorship election, the implications of the allegations will be felt across the political landscape.

Should Aderibigbe’s involvement in bribery and manipulation be substantiated, it could lead to calls for sweeping reforms within INEC and a renewed focus on safeguarding electoral integrity in Nigeria.

The Nigerian Army has cleared Colonel IB Abdul Karim of sexual harassment allegations

In a recent video on Arise Tv, the Nigerian Army has cleared Colonel IB Abdul Karim of sexual harassment allegations following an eight-month investigation into claims made by ex-Private Ruth, who served at the Cantonment Medical Center, Ojo. The investigation, which concluded in September 2024, found the officer not guilty of the accusations, which had sparked public outcry and brought attention to issues of sexual misconduct within the military.

Speaking at a press conference, Army spokesperson Major General Onyenma Nwachukwu revealed that the investigation was thorough and based on an objective evaluation of all available evidence. “The investigation concluded that Colonel IB Abdul Karim did not commit the offense of sexual harassment as alleged by ex-Private Ruth. The findings were definitive and based on an objective evaluation of the available information,” Nwachukwu said.

My senior officer forcibly put me inside a casket, slept with me – Dismissed Nigerian female soldier laments

In a shocking revelation, Ex-Nigerian soldier Ruth Ogunleye has come forward to expose the horrific abuse she suffered at the hands of her senior officer during her military service.
With raw emotion, she detailed the distressing experiences of alleged molestation and dehumanization, describing how she was treated like a worthless object.
Determined to get justice, Ogunleye boldly urged the higher ranks to launch a thorough investigation into her harrowing ordeal
Ruth Ogunleye, a courageous former soldier of the Nigerian Army, is shattering the silence surrounding her controversial discharge, firmly rejecting claims that she left due to medical issues.

In a riveting live interview with AIT,  Ruth opened up about the traumatic ordeal that forced her to walk away from a military career—an experience, she claimed was marred by abuse at the hands of a Colonel.

With palpable emotion, Ruth recounted the horrific details of her alleged assault, claiming that the colonel violently forced himself on her in his office, a violation that left her shaken to her core.

According to her, despite her bravery in reporting the incident, she was met with indifference and disbelief from her superiors, who dismissed her claims as fabrications.

In an even more shocking twist, Ruth alleged that the Colonel subjected her to further humiliation by placing her inside a body bag in a casket —an object typically reserved for fallen soldiers.

This act of degradation, Ruth claimed, not only stripped away her dignity but also instilled a deep sense of fear and isolation within her, made it impossible to continue serving in an environment that felt increasingly hostile and unsafe.

In Ruth’s words:

“He forcibly slept with me inside his office and put me inside casket which is called body bag and nothing is being done. They normally use it in northeast to bury soldiers who die during war.

“So he put me inside casket. I sought for redress but nobody listened to me, they did not believe what I was telling and I have evidence”

NUJ condemns Ogun journalist’s arrest, demands his immediate release

NUJ condemns Ogun journalist’s arrest, demands his immediate release

By Taiwo Bankole

The Ogun State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists has condemned the arrest of one of its members, Seun Odunlami, by operatives of the Nigeria Police from Lagos state police command.

The union disclosed this in a statement signed by its Secretary, Bunmi Adigun and made available to journalists on Thursday describing the arrest as “shocking and unlawful.

The NUJ said that the Gestapo manner in which Odunlami was picked up on Wednesday by plain-clothed officers very close to the Secretariat of the union is a sad reminiscent of the better-forgotten-military era when journalists were hounded into detention at any slight provocation albeit unfounded allegations.

Odunlami said to be the publisher of Newsjaunts online was reportedly arrested on Wednesday by operatives of the Lagos State Police command.

The statement partly reads “This unacceptable act, reminiscent of Gestapo tactics, was brazenly carried out in front of Providus Bank, Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta, a few meters away from the Union’s Secretariat, Iwe Irohin Press Centre, by plain-clothed officers in the presence of some of his colleagues before being whisked away to an unknown destination with an unmarked bus while all his phones have since been switched off.

“We demand the immediate and unconditional release of Seun Odunlami, a detailed explanation for the circumstances surrounding his abduction, as well as an investigation into the actions of the police operatives involved.

“The police must also provide evidence of any wrongdoing or prima facie case against him, as this unacceptable commando-like arrest threatens the very fabric of fundamental rights of journalists in Nigeria.

“The NUJ Ogun State Council stands in solidarity with Seun Odunlami’s family and colleagues, who are understandably distraught and concerned for his safety.

“We urge all relevant authorities to intervene and ensure Seun Odunlami’s safe return while the NUJ will continue to advocate for the protection of journalists’ rights and the rule of law in Nigeria,” the statement read.

A colleague who was with Odunlami when he was arrested but chose to speak under the condition of anonymity said that the journalist was arrested at about 1:00 pm outside Providus Bank, Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta.

The colleague said, “The gunmen arrived in a car, handcuffed Seun, and dragged him in and when I called him on the phone, he said they were from the Special Fraud Unit, Ikoyi”.

The reason behind the journalist’s arrest is still sketchy at the time of filing this report.

When contacted, the spokesman of the Ogun State Police Command, Superintendent of Police, Omolola Odutola, said that no official report has been made against the arrest of the journalist but that the command will swing into action to help locate his whereabouts.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of Ogun NUJ, Wale Olanrewaju, said that with the kind assistance of the state police command, the union has established contact with the Special Fraud Unit in Lagos and they have confirmed that the journalist is with them and might be arraigned either today or tomorrow in court.

BREAKING: Justice Binta Nyako Withdraws From Nnamdi Kanu’s Trial As IPOB Leader Scolds Her For Disobeying Supreme Court Order.

BREAKING: Justice Binta Nyako Withdraws From Nnamdi Kanu’s Trial As IPOB Leader Scolds Her For Disobeying Supreme Court Order.

At a resumed sitting, the IPOB leader had ordered his counsel, Alloy Ejimakor, to sit down while he made reference to the judgment of the Supreme Court where alleged bias against the judge was raised.
Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, on Tuesday, handed off from presiding over the trial of the detained leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnmadi Kanu.

Justice Nyako's withdrawal from the trial followed Nnamdi Kanu's application in open court, requesting her to recuse herself from the trial due to her disobedience of orders of the Supreme Court.

At a resumed sitting, the IPOB leader had ordered his counsel, Alloy Ejimakor, to sit down while he made reference to the judgment of the Supreme Court where alleged bias against the judge was raised.

While Ejimakor was trying to persuade the court to suspend the trial due to the fact that Kanu was denied the opportunity to prepare his defence, the detained Kanu rose from his seat and ordered his lawyer to sit down.

"Sit down! I say you should sit down!" Kanu roared from the dock.

"My lord, I have no confidence in this court anymore and I ask you to recuse yourself because you did not abide by the decision of the Supreme Court.

"I can understand it if the DSS refuses to obey a court order, but for this court to refuse to obey an order of the Supreme Court is regrettable.

"I am asking you to recuse yourself from this case," Kanu stated.

Though the prosecution counsel, Adegboyega Awomolo, SAN, urged the court to proceed with the trial, Justice Binta Nyako said she was minded to recuse herself from the case.

"I hereby recuse myself and remit the case-file back to the Chief Judge," she held.

NGIJ frowns at GT Bank's harassment of member

The Nigerian Guild of Investigative Journalists (NGIJ) condemns in its entirety the brazen display of corporate intimidation by Guaranty Trust Holding Company (GTCO) its attempt to muzzle the press by arresting a journalist, Olurotimi Olawale, for simply doing his job.

In a statement jointly signed by the duo of Abdulrahman Aliagan and Rowland Olonishuwa; President and Secretary,  respectively, the Guild highlighted that the recent arrest of its member, Olurotimi Olawale, is one of the miss recent attempt by the bank to gag the press.

"Today 20th of September, 2024, Olurotimi Olawale was arrested by security personnel, who simply identified themselves as police officers from Zone 2, for reportedly using a story deemed unfavourable to Guaranty Trust and its CEO, Segun Agbaje.

"This blatant attempt to stifle investigative journalism has drawn condemnation from media watchdogs, human rights groups, and concerned citizens.

"This is a disturbing trend that threatens the very fabric of our democracy as GTCO's actions demonstrates a staggering disregard for the principles of  press freedom.

"The incident raises serious questions about GTCO's commitment to transparency and accountability. By silencing critics through coercion, the bank undermines the public's right to information and perpetuates a culture of impunity.

"Olawale Olurotimi's ordeal serves as a chilling reminder of the risks faced by journalists who dare to hold powerful individuals and institutions alike accountable. As Nigeria struggles to maintain its democratic credentials, GTCO's actions are a stark reminder of the challenges ahead.

"Nigerians must demand greater accountability from corporate entities and safeguard the rights of journalists to report without fear of reprisal", the Guild said.

Governor Adeleke Hosts Ife Devt Board, Says Ile Ife Deserves Flyovers, Dualized Roads & More

NEWS RELEASE

Governor Adeleke Hosts Ife Devt Board, Says Ile Ife Deserves Flyovers, Dualized Roads & More

OSOGBO - 16/09/2024 - Osunstate.gov.ng

Governor Ademola Adeleke has decried the low physical and infrastructure development of Ile Ife, the cradle of Yoruba people, declaring that the source of Yoruba race deserves total upgrade in terms of flyovers, dualised roads and upgraded facilities befitting the cultural capital of Yoruba people.

Hosting a delegation of Ife Development Board at the Government House on Monday, Governor Adeleke said the low developmental outlook of the ancient city is not acceptable to him and his team, hence the decision to commence massive upgrade starting with the Lagere flyover and the dualisation of the road leading to the palace.

He justified his administration's decision to change the face of Ile Ife on the ground that the ancient city cannot continue to look like a village when global visitor comes calling, affirming that Ile Ife is too important to remain low rated in infra outlook.

Governor Adeleke, accompanied by his Deputy, Prince Kola Adewusi told the visiting dignitaries that Ile Ife is not only the cultural capital and source of all Yourba people but also the global tourism and religious base of Yorubas in North America, South America and other parts of the world.

Thanking the Ooni of Ife and other Ife leaders for supporting him on the ongoing flyover and dualisation projects at Ile Ife, the Governor said aside the cultural and tourism factors, the economic case for the Lagere flyover has been well canvassed as the junction is the meeting point for business interaction from Osun West, from Ilesa and from Ondo through Garage Olode.

“Our administration is committed to completing the flyover as well as the dualisation of the road leading to the Ooni palace. I want to be recorded in history as the Governor who transformed Ile Ife into a modern cultural and tourism city”, the Governor told the leaders.

On the requests for rehabilitation of some other roads at Ile Ife, the Governor assured that the list would be forwarded to the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure for addition to the list of roads scheduled for reconstruction and rehabilitation.

He promised that the request for expansion of the dualisation to Ilesa Garage will be evaluated for further action by the technical team.

On security, he assured the Ife Development Board that his administration is already reforming the state's Amotekun security service as a bridge between local communities and the federal security services.

He explained that local vigilante and forest hunters would henceforth be working with Amotekun service and other formal security agencies to secure Osun cities and rural areas.

On the need for further action on the agricultural sector, the Governor informed the delegation that the state government will soon unveil an AFDB supported agricultural processing zone to be located at Ile Ife.

Speaking earlier, the President of Ife Development Board, Mr Gbenga Adefaye, commended Governor Ademola Adeleke for his development strides in Osun state and particularly at Ile Ife, listing requests touching on road expansion, security and agriculture.

He reiterated that “Ile-Ife is our collective heritage. It deserves more than passing attention. As the  ancestral home of all Yoruba both here in Nigeria and in the Diaspora, we all owe ourselves the duty to transform it and make it more amiable, more welcoming as the poster place for all proud Yoruba”, Adefaye told the Governor.

Governor Adeleke subsequently directed the Deputy Governor to ensure follow up on the meeting to ensure sustainable partnership between the state government and the Ile Ife Development Board.

Signed:
Mallam Olawale Rasheed,
Spokesperson to Governor Ademola Adeleke.
