Soldiers Blown To Pieces While Escorting Civilians Through Village Dominated By Boko Haram Fighters

Two soldiers were killed in a landmine explosion set by Boko Haram terrorists, who also killed eight passengers and injured many others on the Maiduguri-Damboa road.

The explosion happened at around 11a.m on Tuesday near Nyeliri, a deserted village in Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State.

The blast caused panic, and motorists and passengers ran in different directions, even though they were being escorted by the military.

The Maiduguri-Damboa road is still dangerous due to frequent attacks, despite having daily security escorts.

Just last week, on Friday, April 25, six charcoal sellers were killed in the Mulgoi area. On Sunday, April 27, two farmers were also killed by Boko Haram while working on their farms in Damboa LG.

The District Head of Damboa, Alhaji Lawan Maina, confirmed the attack and said that the rise in Boko Haram violence is worrying and largely unanswered.

Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume (APC, Borno South) also urged the Federal Government to equip the military with better weapons to stop the ongoing killings and destruction in the region.

Easter: NGIJ Felicitates Christians, Urges Prayers, Unity, an NGIJ calls for Prayers, Unity, and Commitment to Truth at Easter

The Nigerian Guild of Investigative Journalists (NGIJ) has extended warm Easter greetings to Christians in Nigeria and across the world, calling for global and national unity, fervent prayers for the country, and a renewed commitment to truth, justice, and press freedom.

In a statement signed by its National Secretary, Mr. Rowland Olonishuwa and made available to journalists in Ilorin, the Guild urged Christians to draw from the deep spiritual lessons of Easter, emphasizing the significance of Christ’s resurrection as a beacon of hope, sacrifice, and renewal.

“Easter is a sacred season that underscores the triumph of truth over falsehood, light over darkness, and life over death,” NGIJ noted.

“As we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ, we call on Christians to reflect on the values of compassion, forgiveness, humility, and sacrifice which the season represents—and to offer prayers for Nigeria’s healing, progress, and unity.”

The NGIJ also used the opportunity to reaffirm its dedication to the principles of investigative journalism, press freedom, and the protection of democratic ideals in Nigeria.

“As journalists, especially in this holy season, we must recommit ourselves to the pursuit of truth, fairness, and public accountability. The resurrection story of Jesus Christ reminds us that truth, no matter how suppressed, will ultimately prevail. Let this inspire our work and our collective resolve as defenders of transparency and justice,” the statement stated.

The Guild also urged national leaders to respect the independence of the media and create an enabling environment for journalists to carry out their duties without fear or intimidation.

“As we mark Easter, let us all—Christians, Muslims, and adherents of other faiths—join hands in building a more just, peaceful, and united Nigeria,” the statement concluded.

The NGIJ wished all Christian faithful a peaceful and joyful Easter celebration, filled with hope, renewal, and blessing

My gym instructor has slept with almost every girl who comes to the gym in my estate - Affiliate Marketer

My gym instructor has slept with almost every girl who comes to the gym in my estate - Affiliate Marketer

According to Punch, as Nigeria’s fitness culture grows, gyms have become more than just spaces for physical exercise. These fitness centers are now emerging as hotspots for romantic and sexual encounters, blurring the lines between health and attraction. What began as a movement towards better physical health has now led to a rise in gym-based social connections, sometimes evolving into casual hookups.

Yinka Alo, a 33-year-old entrepreneur from Lagos, shared his story, which reflects the darker side of this trend. After discovering that his wife had been having an affair with a fitness trainer, Alo’s personal life unraveled, revealing how some gym-goers are using fitness spaces for more than just exercise. His wife’s affair, which began before their wedding, was intertwined with their shared gym experiences. Alo explained that his wife not only had a sexual relationship with the trainer but also financially supported him, which added to the emotional betrayal he felt.

Alo’s story is not isolated. In major Nigerian cities like Lagos and Abuja, gyms are increasingly becoming places where people seek not only fitness but also romantic or sexual connections. Fitness influencers and trainers, often admired for their physiques, have become central figures in this changing gym dynamic. Their influence extends beyond fitness routines, as many of them showcase their physical appeal on social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok. This visibility has contributed to the rise in attraction to the fitness lifestyle, where physical health and allure intersect.

For many, the gym offers health benefits such as weight management, improved posture, and stress relief. However, for others, the gym has become an arena for building social connections, sometimes leading to brief, non-committal sexual encounters. In some fitness centers, trainers are said to take advantage of clients looking for quick flings, particularly those who may be in long-distance relationships or feeling disconnected from their partners.
In some cases, gym instructors are accused of playing matchmaker, setting up clients with potential hookup partners. Some gym-goers, particularly those seeking a casual connection, are said to see the gym as an ideal environment for these types of encounters. As more people seek out these informal and sometimes secretive connections, the gym is slowly transforming from a space of personal health into a venue for socializing, flirting, and hooking up.

Some gym-goers, however, openly acknowledge the more seductive side of the fitness scene. One banker, Moses Oyeleke, for example, admitted that the gym he frequents on Lagos mainland is a place where he frequently encounters beautiful women. While participating in workout sessions, he and others socialize, exchange numbers, and form connections, with an underlying hint of attraction. For him, the gym has evolved into a space for both fitness and flirting.

In a similar vein, an affiliate marketer based in Ogun State revealed that his gym instructor has been involved with numerous women who frequent the gym in his area.

He said, "My gym instructor has slept with almost every girl who comes to the gym in my estate.”

Breaking News: Isolo Chiefs Back Oba Issa Abiodun Faronbi Shekoni, Dismiss Viral Criminal Allegation as Malicious Propaganda by paid Agents

Breaking News: Isolo Chiefs Back Oba Issa Abiodun Faronbi Shekoni, Dismiss Viral Criminal Allegation as Malicious Propaganda by paid Agents

Traditional chiefs in Isolo have come out strongly in defense of the newly installed monarch, Oba Issa Abiodun Faronbi Shekoni, amid swirling rumors and a viral video suggesting the king is unfit to occupy the revered throne of Osolo of Isolo.

During a special coronation ceremony held on Monday, April 7, 2025, at the new Isolo palace to mark the ninth day of Oba Shekoni’s reign, the traditional council passed a vote of confidence in the monarch, insisting the allegations are false, unfounded, and the handiwork of detractors.

A viral video that resurfaced online showed the then Prince Abiodun Shekoni in handcuffs, reportedly in connection with a land dispute. The clip triggered a wave of speculations and questions about his suitability for the throne.

However, Chief Yahya Lawal Arowooye, the Agbaakin of Isolo—and a former contender for the throne—debunked the allegations, stressing that they are malicious attempts to tarnish the image of a man of “impeccable character.”

“We have not installed a criminal as being speculated because Oba Shekoni is a man of integrity. What happened was purely a land dispute within the Ojo Orisadeko Asalu Elemo Royal Family at Ajao Estate,” Chief Arowooye said.

He further clarified that no court has found the monarch guilty of any wrongdoing and described the police action in the video as a case of overzealousness, urging the Lagos State Government to investigate those behind the viral smear campaign.

Backing his statement, High Chief Akibu Aregbe, the Lisa of Isolo, called the criminal allegation “pure nonsense,” noting that land disputes are common in royal families and do not amount to criminality.

“The crowd that visits the palace daily proves his acceptability. Those behind the video do not love Isolo. If you love this town, you support the king, not destroy his name,” he said.

Also lending his voice, Chief Wasiu Arowooye, the Isolo Regent and another former contender for the throne, emphasized that the transition was smooth and peaceful, with all parties agreeing to work together for the town's development.

“There is no rancour in Isolo. We all promised to support whoever emerged as king. It’s time to unite for the progress of Isolo,” he said.

The traditional leaders called for unity and collective development, urging all aggrieved parties to set aside personal ambitions and support the new monarch.

Lagos Reporters will continue to follow developments in the Isolo royal house and bring accurate updates to the people.

You resigned because Tinubu sidelined Shettima – Group slams Baba-Ahmed

You resigned because Tinubu sidelined Shettima – Group slams Baba-Ahmed

According to Daily Post, former spokesperson of the Northern Elders Forum (NEF), Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has come under heavy criticism following his resignation as Special Adviser on Political Matters to Vice President Kashim Shettima. The resignation, tendered two weeks ago, has sparked debate, particularly from the Kaduna Solidarity Vanguard, which has raised questions about the timing and motives behind his decision.

Baba-Ahmed, appointed to the role in September 2023, cited personal reasons for stepping down. However, he did not provide further details, prompting speculation about the real reasons behind his departure from the presidency. The Kaduna Solidarity Vanguard has now accused Baba-Ahmed of resigning due to a growing realization that Vice President Shettima himself had been sidelined in the political landscape of the current administration.

In a statement signed by Lawal Tanimu, Chairman of the Kaduna Solidarity Vanguard, the group criticized Baba-Ahmed for his initial alignment with the administration, questioning his commitment to the people of the North. The group pointed out that Baba-Ahmed had accepted the political adviser role despite the North’s ongoing struggles, including challenges with tax reforms and economic neglect.

The statement read, "This opportunistic shift, perceived as an attempt to manipulate public sentiment, undermines the integrity of political engagement." The Vanguard emphasized that northern leaders should prioritize the interests of their people rather than exploit their positions for personal gain. The group further asserted that Baba-Ahmed’s resignation was not a principled stand but rather a calculated move to distance himself from a government he had once joined for financial incentives.

The Vanguard went on to claim that Baba-Ahmed’s resignation coincided with the realization that Vice President Shettima’s office was significantly underfunded, with a budget allocation of just N36 billion, which limited his influence and ambitions. "It became clear that the environment was not conducive for his aspirations," the group said.

In their view, Baba-Ahmed’s political maneuvers reflected a pattern of self-interest, and the group warned the northern populace against supporting leaders who were seen as opportunistic and uncommitted to their long-term welfare. "True activism," the statement concluded, "is rooted in authenticity and a profound commitment to the welfare of the people."

As Baba-Ahmed’s resignation continues to generate public debate, many are left questioning the motivations behind the move and what it means for the political landscape in the North. While some have called for a more nuanced understanding of Baba-Ahmed's decision, others agree with the Kaduna Solidarity Vanguard’s stance, urging greater scrutiny of political figures who may seek to exploit positions for personal benefit.
