Armed robbers attack bank customer, injure police officer in Ibadan
Armed robbers in the early hours of Monday attacked a bank customer and robbed him of an unknown amount of money near the Oyo State Secretariat, Agodi, in Ibadan.

The Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Adewale Osifeso, disclosed this in a statement made available to newsmen on Monday in Ibadan.

Osifeso said that the robbers tracked and attacked the bank depositor, who was in a metallic grey Nissan Primera and forcefully robbed him of a substantial amount of money at around 8:00 a.m

“The Oyo State Police Command seeks to inform the public about a robbery that occurred on Monday, October 27, 2025, at approximately 8:00a.m., along Secretariat Road, Agodi.
“A bank depositor traveling in a metallic grey Nissan Primera with license plate number EPE 901 PS was tracked and forcibly robbed of a substantial, yet-to-be-ascertained amount of cash,” he said.

Osifeso said that an officer from the command sustained severe injuries during a confrontation with the robbers.
“Initial investigations indicate that an officer with the Oyo State Police Command sustained severe injuries during a confrontation that arose when his team on patrol engaged the suspects in a bid to thwart their further plans of causing chaos following the attack on the unsuspecting individual,” he said.

Osifeso said that there were no reported fatalities during the incident, and the injured officer was currently receiving immediate medical attention at a secure healthcare facility.

The command’s spokesman urged members of the public with useful information on the robbery to avail themselves of the nearest police station to provide intelligence that could aid in the prompt apprehension of the suspects.

These vehicles are to be maintained by the respective Services and replaced every four years.

According to the new Harmonised Terms and Conditions of Service (HTACOS) 2024, signed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu — a copy of which was obtained by Sunday LEADERSHIP — the retired officers will also receive $20,000 per year for medical expenses.

The document, marked ‘Restricted’, also outlines the benefits due to retired generals and other senior officers of the Armed Forces upon leaving service.

President Bola Tinubu yesterday removed the service chiefs and appointed their replacements.

The statement announcing their removal, signed by Sunday Dare, the special adviser to the president on media and public communication, said the action was taken to further the federal government’s efforts to strengthen the national security architecture.

The President appointed former Army Chief, General Olufemi Oluyede, as the new Chief of Defence Staff, replacing General Christopher Musa. The new Chief of Army Staff is Major-General W. Shaibu, Air Vice Marshal S. K. Aneke becomes Chief of Air Staff, while Rear Admiral I. Abbas is the new Chief of Naval Staff.

The Chief of Defence Intelligence, Major-General E. A. P. Undiendeye, retains his position.

Those sacked alongside General Musa are the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, and the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar.

Each of the service chiefs is also entitled to five domestic workers, one security officer, nine standard guards, three service drivers, firearms, and other benefits.

Part of the document reads:

“The following benefits shall be the entitlements of the CDS and Service Chiefs: one bulletproof SUV or equivalent vehicle, to be maintained by the Service and replaced every four years; one Prado Jeep or equivalent backup vehicle; retention of all military uniforms and accoutrements to be worn for appropriate ceremonies; five domestic aides (2 x Service cooks, 2 x stewards, and 1 x civilian gardener); one Aide-de-Camp/Security Officer; one Special Assistant (Lt/Capt or equivalent) or one personal assistant (WO or equivalent); standard guard (9 soldiers); three Service drivers; one Service orderly; escorts (to be provided by appropriate military units/formations as the need arises); retention of personal firearms (to be retrieved by the relevant Service upon the officer’s demise); and free medical cover in Nigeria and abroad.”

According to the document, Lieutenant-Generals and equivalents are entitled to the following: one Toyota Hilux vehicle and one Toyota Land Cruiser or equivalent Jeep of the same value; two cooks, two stewards, four residential guards, one Service orderly, two Service drivers, and free medical care in Nigeria and abroad up to the value of $20,000 per year.

Furthermore, retiring Major-Generals, Brigadier-Generals, or their equivalents will be entitled to: one Toyota Land Cruiser or equivalent vehicle, one cook, one steward, two residential guards, one Service orderly, one Service driver, and free medical cover in Nigeria and abroad up to $15,000 per annum.

Similarly, officers of one-star rank are to enjoy the following: one Toyota Camry or equivalent vehicle, one Service driver, two residential guards, one Service orderly, and free medical cover in Nigeria and abroad up to $10,000 per annum.

Federal Government to Spend More on Other Retiring Generals

Yesterday’s retirement of the service chiefs is expected to trigger voluntary and forced retirements within the military hierarchy, as some senior generals who are contemporaries of the outgoing service chiefs may have to proceed on retirement in line with military tradition.

The new service chiefs, who are members of Course 40 and 41 of the Nigerian Defence Academy, replace their predecessors from Course 39, including the new Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede.

By this appointment, generals from Courses 39, 40, and some from Course 41 across the Services will have to retire, as they are not expected to salute their juniors who have now been elevated above them.

LEADERSHIP Weekend earlier reported that members of Course 39 remain in active service, occupying strategic positions such as Principal Staff Officers (PSOs) at Service Headquarters and Commanders of tri-Service institutions.

Military sources, who initially said more than 50 such generals would have to voluntarily exit the Service to allow the new Service Chiefs to exercise effective control, now say the number could exceed that, since the new Chief of Army Staff is from Course 41.

“We will have more than 60 generals retiring. The new Army Chief is from Course 41. Those in service from Course 39 and even some from 41 will want to retire,” the source said.

With the retirement packages outlined above, the Federal Government will have to provide substantial funds to settle the retirees.

Senate May Confirm Nominations This Week

The Senate joint committee on Defence, Army and Navy is expected to commence the screening exercise of the newly-appointed service chiefs.

It is believed that the president would have written to the Senate at the weekend to intimate its leadership about the fresh appointments.

Their screening is expected to be done behind closed doors.

Expectedly, the nominees are expected to promise to tackle insecurity in the country.

Service Chiefs’ Change Strategic for Tinubu

Meanwhile, a former Chairman of the Special Presidential Investigative Panel on Recovery of Public Property (SPIP), Chief Okoi Obono-Obla, has described President Tinubu’s reshuffle of service chiefs as a strategic realignment aimed at entrenching deeper reforms as he moves towards completing his first four-year term.

The former special aassistant to the late ex-President Muhammadu Buhari on prosecution added that the change demonstrates a canny mastery of the push and pull of the country’s centripetal and centrifugal forces.

Obono-Obla told LEADERSHIP Sunday that: “It reflects how he (Tinubu) has been able to navigate and manoeuvre through the complexities of governance. After settling into office, he engaged in midterm rumination — pondering and reflecting on the imperative of assembling a new team within the Armed Forces and security apparatuses.”

Obono-Obla explained that the move signals a strategic realignment and that it is time to assess performance in the military and security sectors.

“The shake-up and introduction of a new team — reinvigorated and with a fresh lease of life — aims to ensure that the security challenges which have grappled and confronted the country are dealt with decisively, using new gusto, fresh strategies, and dynamic trajectories.

“Mr President has also subtly used this opportunity to manoeuvre through the nuances and subtleties of the country’s fault lines, which have long dogged its progress.

In doing so, he has sought to balance geopolitical sensibilities and touch all potential flashpoints where cries of political marginalisation often emerge,” he said.

Presidency Explains Reason for Sacking Service Chiefs

Presidency Explains Reason for Sacking Service Chiefs

The Presidency has explained that the removal of the service chiefs was a routine exercise aimed at strengthening national

Presidential spokesperson Sunday Dare disclosed this in an exclusive interview on Friday, following President Bola Tinubu’s announcement earlier in the day confirming the changes in the country’s top military leadership.

According to the statement, General Musa has been replaced by Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede as the new Chief of Defence Staff. Other key appointments include Major General W. Shaibu as Chief of Army Staff, Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke as Chief of Air Staff, and Rear Admiral I. Abbas as Chief of Naval Staff.

Major General E.A.P. Undiendeye, however, retains his position as Chief of Defence Intelligence.

Addressing the development, Dare stated that President Tinubu, as Commander-in-Chief, has the constitutional authority to make such adjustments whenever necessary.

“This is a routine measure meant to boost security across the nation. The Commander-in-Chief can at any time make these changes to both ministerial and service chiefs.

In the same way, commanding officers of mechanised divisions can be moved or removed,” Dare explained.

Abuja Estate Residents Accuse Police DSP of Terror Campaign; Journalist Targeted Amidst Allegations of Police Inaction

Abuja Estate Residents Accuse Police DSP of Terror Campaign; Journalist Targeted Amidst Allegations of Police Inaction

Residents of Oduah Estate in Abuja say they are living in a state of fear and uncertainty, alleging a campaign of terror, intimidation, and death threats orchestrated by a serving police officer identified as DSP Jeffery Ugochukwu.

According to a series of "Save Our Souls" (SOS) petitions, the officer, whose current posting within the Nigeria Police Force remains unknown, has allegedly leveraged his position to act with impunity, endangering the lives of dozens of families, including children, nursing mothers, and a then pregnant woman.

The tenants, fearing that the threats, some ofwhich were reportedly captured on video, could lead to an avoidable loss of lives, have escalated their complaints from the Inspector-General of Police and the Force Provost Marshal to the Police Service Commission (PSC), demanding urgent disciplinary action to avert what they warn could become a tragedy.

In a petition dated August 13, 2025, the Citizens Rights and Empowerment Advocacy Initiative (CREMA Initiative) described DSP Ugochukwu as “a threat to the lives of his co-tenants, who consistently constitutes a nuisance and lives above the law simply because he is a police officer.” The human rights group warned that the situation was deteriorating rapidly and “could lead to tragedy if immediate action is not taken.”

This followed an earlier joint complaint by tenants to the Force Provost Department in June 2025, which alleged criminal intimidation, physical assault, destruction of property, and the brandishing of a service pistol in an attempt to shoot at residents.

Residents claimed in one petition that the harassment worsened when the officer began spraying a tear-gas-like substance through the ceiling, causing choking, breathing difficulties, and eye irritation. This act allegedly forced entire families, including children, to flee their rooms gasping for air.

CREMA Initiative’s petition affirmed that this act “is currently endangering the lives of a pregnant woman, children, breastfeeding babies, and other vulnerable occupants.”

Tenants also accused the officer of playing extremely loud music late into the night, depriving neighbours of sleep and aggravating health conditions such as hypertension. One family reportedly fled the estate entirely after repeated threats.

The petitions further detail deliberate acts of vandalism and sabotage. On June 15 and 17, 2025, after his flat was disconnected by the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), DSP Ugochukwu allegedly cut the main electric line, plunging nine other flats into darkness.

He was also accused of destroying estate water pipes on multiple occasions and, on September 13, 2025, pouring palm oil across a shared lobby and damaging a neighbour’s window net.

More chilling, residents recount repeated threats of lethal violence. In a petition dated September 29, 2025, the “Concerned Tenants” recounted how the officer allegedly declared, “You should continue; very soon I will get my rifle and fire everybody.” The next day, he reportedly emerged with a jackknife, threatening to kill any tenant who knocked on his door, an incident said to have been captured on video. Another petition claimed he once boasted that if provoked, he would “use his rifle to fire at the person and then turn it on himself — and the matter would be closed.”

Tenants further alleged that he had brandished a pistol at the estate caretaker, Mr. Ibe Uzoma, physically assaulted him, and refused to pay motorcycle operators for services rendered within the estate.

Despite these several oral and written complaints, residents insist that no meaningful action has been taken by the police authorities. Mr. Uzoma confirmed that reports were made to the Karu Area Command, which visited the scene but took no further action before tenants filed a formal petition on September 29, 2025.

When officers from the Nyanya Police Division's Surveillance Unit reportedly attempted to invite the DSP for questioning on September 13, “he bluntly refused to open his door each time.” Tenants now fear the situation has spiralled beyond the control of divisional leadership.

Frustrated by the continued inaction, the tenants retained the Trio Jurist Law Firm, which has petitioned the Chairman of the Police Service Commission. The firm wrote, “It is now an obvious fact that the Nigeria Police Force, knowing the state of DSP Ugochukwu, is intentionally protecting one of theirs at the risk of the lives of our clients.”

They warned that the continued protection of the officer could “escalate into a full breach of peace should our clients resort to self-help.”

The situation escalated further in the early hours of Thursday, October 16, 2025, when residents alleged that DSP Ugochukwu was seen armed with a jackknife, knocking on several doors.

This was described as an apparent attempt to identify the apartment of Comrade James Ezema, a journalist who serves as the National Vice President (Investigation) of the Nigerian Guild of Investigative Journalists (NGIJ) and National President of the Association of Bloggers and Journalists Against Fake News (ABJFN).

Later that evening, witnesses said the officer was seen again, still knocking on the door of another tenant whose wife had just put to bed, allegedly in a continued search for the journalist. He reportedly left with the electricity meter serving two flats.

Comrade Ezema, who is also the Director of Operations at CREMA Initiative, said in a statement on Sunday that he remains in shock. “I was dumbfounded because there has been no personal issue with him to warrant his manhunt for me,” he stated.

“Nigerians should hold DSP Jeffery Ugochukwu and the Nigeria Police Force responsible if anything happens to me, my loved ones, or any tenant. Right now, I cannot move around alone and freely for fear of my life and safety.”

Ezema added, “It’s shameful that the Nigeria Police Force has sunk so low that allegations of threats to life are treated with levity. I don’t want to be another Mohbad, who petitioned the police but no action was taken until his mysterious death. We don’t need to wait for tragedy before action is taken. No one’s life should be endangered because an officer claims to have a DIG as his godfather.”

He further appealed to the alleged senior officer, stating, “We are appealing to the DIG whom he claims to be his godfather not to back criminality and lawlessness at the expense of citizens’ lives.”

According to Ezema, when one of the petitions to the Inspector-General of Police got to the Police Complaint Response Unit (CRU) at the Force Headquarters, officials, after two follow-up visits by the tenants and the landlord, “bluntly told the landlord and some tenants that the policeman cannot be traced and there is nothing they can do.” He lamented that when asked, “If he’s an unknown police officer, isn’t that the main reason to act — if it’s an act of impersonation? Still, they said nothing and did nothing till today.”

In an urgent message on Saturday morning, October 18, 2025, to the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), ACP Benjamin Hundeyin, with a copy sent to the FCT PPRO, SP Josephine Adeh, Comrade Ezema wrote that he was urgently requesting immediate intervention. He identified the individual as DSP Jeffrey Ugochukwu, "said to be deployed to your office," and detailed the failure of previous petitions.

He highlighted the October 16 incident involving the jackknife and meter vandalism, the intimidation in the 27-flat mini-estate, and the officer's boast of having a DIG as a godfather.

He respectfully but urgently requested that the FPRO's office order the officer's immediate removal and suspension from civilian contact pending investigation, provide urgent protection for himself and other endangered tenants, and conduct an impartial investigation into the officer's conduct and the police’s failure to act, making the appeal "not to impede legitimate policing but to prevent an avoidable tragedy.”

Residents say they now live in constant fear, sleeping in shifts and keeping watch over their families at night. While awaiting a formal response from the PSC, they have begun appealing to other security agencies for protection, lamenting that “it has become clear that police authorities have refused to act.”

One resident said, “All we are asking for is safety. We just want to live without fear in our own homes.”

According to the journalist's statement, the FCT PPRO, SP Josephine Adeh, responded when a video of the police officer threatening residents while armed with a jackknife was sent to her, stating, "Noted I have even started acting on it too."

The complainants have subsequently been invited by the FCT Command's Police Complaints Response Unit and are scheduled to be there at 10 am on Monday.

Homosexual Dems: Police Rescue over 300 People chained in A House In Kaduna. -
••They teach us Koran and abuse us homosexually.

A house containing over three hundred people chained in their arms and legs has been discovered by police in Kaduna State.

The police has unbundled the house, that is located in Rigasa community, Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

A house with over three hundred people in Rigasa community, Igabi local Government Area of Kaduna State has been unbundled by personnel of the Nigeria Police.

Some of them according to the force are said to be from Burkina Faso, Mali and other African countries.

Among the inhabitants were children who confess to be abused homosexually, while elderly say they subjected to daily recitation of the Holy Quran and prayers with torture.

With chains on their legs and scars of injuries from torture, they disclose that Thursday evening’s unbundling of the place is liberation from slavery.

Bello Hamza 42 years old another inmate said, he was tricked to the centre by his family who are interested in taking over my shared of our inheritance.

In his words: “I have spent three months here with chains on my legs. Am supposed to be pursuing my Masters in University Pretoria South Africa. I got admission to study Applied Mathematics, but here I am chained.

“They claim to be teaching us Quran and Islam, but they do a lot of things here. They subject the younger ones to homosexuality.

“This is supposed to be an Islamic centre, but trying to run away from here attracts severe punishment; they tie people and hang them to the ceiling for that, but engaging in homosexuality attracts no punishment.

“Within my short stay here, somebody had died as a result of torture. Others have died before my coming due to poor health and torture. They give us very poor food and we only eat twice a day; 11:00am and 10:00pm.

“They have denied me alot of things here. I am a family man, I have responsibilities, but I am chained here not knowing what is happening to my family members.

CP Ali Aji Janga while briefing newsmen at the site said, “we received an information that something is going on in this rehabilitation centre or Islamic center. So, I sent my DPO here to check what was going on. On getting here, we discovered that, this is neither a rehabilitation centre or Islamic school.

“You can see it yourself that, small children, some of whom are brought from neighbouring African countrieslike Burkina Faso, Mali and others and from across Nigeria. Most of them are even chained.

“These people are being used, dehumanized. You can see it yourself.

“The man who is operating this home claimed that, parents brought their children here for rehabilitation. But, from the look on things this is not a rehabilitation centre. No reasonable parent will bring his children to this place.

“So, we are going to investigate them and get to the root of the matter. We will find out the real motive behind this centre, and if they are found wanting they will be charged to court.

“But first, we are evacuating all the people from this place to our station and we will make announcement for parents to come and recover their children.” He said.

Meanwhile, the Proprietor of the centre simply identified as Malam said, all they do in the centre is teach people Islam.

According to him, “All those allegations of torture, degumanization and homosexuality are false and mere allegations. We do nothing here other than teaching people Islam.

“They don’t do anything other than, recitation of Qur’an, pray and worship God. Those chained are the stubborn ones who attempt running away. Those who don’t attempt running away are not chained. Some were chained before and after settling down, they were freed.

“Most of them were brought by their parents from across the country and others from outside the country.” He said.

Meanwhile, at the end of the raid, the inmates were evacuated from the premises in about 15 Danfo buses to the Police headquarters. (Tribune)

Ọlọjọ Festival & the Sacred Aare Crown The Ọlọjọ Festival is one of the most revered traditional celebrations in Yorubaland.

Ọlọjọ Festival & the Sacred Aare Crown The Ọlọjọ Festival is one of the most revered traditional celebrations in Yorubaland, and at its heart lies the mystery and power of the Aare Crown. This sacred crown is the most important symbol of Yoruba kingship and spirituality. The Aare Crown was first worn by Odùduwà, the progenitor of the Yoruba race, and has since been passed down to subsequent Ọọnis of Ife. Beyond its physical beauty, the crown carries deep spiritual weight. It contains the spirits of past Ọọnis, many of whom have transformed into powerful deities that still watch over the Yoruba people. What makes the crown even more sacred is its rare appearance. The Ọọni of Ife wears it only once in a year, and that is during the Ọlọjọ Festival. When he steps out adorned with the Aare Crown, the moment is seen as a divine encounter, where the living connect with the ancestors and the spiritual realm. Wearing the crown, the Ọọni offers solemn prayers of peace, prosperity, and protection on behalf of the entire land. It is not just a ritual, it is an act of leadership, sacrifice, and spiritual intercession for the Yoruba nation and humanity at large. Symbolically, the Aare Crown represents divine authority, unity, and continuity of the Yoruba race. It is more than royal regalia; it is a sacred link binding the Ọọni, the ancestors, and generations of Yoruba people together in shared heritage and destiny. In every Ọlọjọ Festival, the sacred crown reminds us that kingship in Yorubaland is not merely political but deeply spiritual, rooted in tradition, ancestry, and responsibility to the people.
