Bonanza As Bandits Distribute Old Notes

Bandits suspected to be members of the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) have distributed huge amounts of old naira notes to scores of commuters in the Lake Chad Basin ahead of the deadline of the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) cashless policy, sources have said.

Our correspondent gathered that the incident occurred after Mairari village, along the Maiduguri/Monguno highway on Saturday in Guzamala LGA of Borno State.

A source told the Daily Trust in Maiduguri that the ISWAP members were dressed in military camouflage and drove two gun trucks.

Ebonyi state governement lodge Abuja
A resident, Bakura Ibrahim, said the insurgents positioned themselves under a tree and stood by the roadside with bags of old naira notes.

“We left Monguno at about 12 noon. As we approached Mairari, there were no existing checkpoints in the area; we were apprehensive.

“They stopped us and asked if we were going to Maiduguri, then they started giving each person 100,000 old naira notes, but we could not believe it. They gave each occupant of the Golf Volkswagen,” Bakura said of the distribution the old naira notes by the bandits.

Another source added, “The group simply told us, “If you think you can go to their banks and change it to new naira, go and do so; may Allah make it beneficial to you.”

Osun Governorsrhip Tribunal Judgement: A Dramatic Sentiment – Hon Wole Oke

Osun Governorsrhip Tribunal Judgement: A Dramatic Sentiment – Hon Wole Oke

The Lawmaker representing Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency, Hon. Busayo Oluwole Oke (BOO) has described the majority judgment of the Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal as a mere dramatic judicial comedy that recorded a complete and a total deviation from all known established principles of Electoral Laws in Nigeria.
Hon Oke noted in a release he personally signed that the judgment was full of holes and gaps difficult to be filled, thus exposing the shanenigan of the presiding judges…..CONTINUE READING

“The judgment to say the least stinks. It should be investigated by the Judicial Service Commission with a view to exposing the undercurrents in the matter.”

The Chairman, House Committee on Public Accounts who is also a lawyer in his official reaction to the judgement, said
he has perused the
judgement and discovered that it was a travesty not rooted in law, but a drama on theatrical for the birds and not rational beings.

According to him, ” I have read the split judgements critically. The judgement absolutely was not based on evidence and facts presented in the open court. It was also a clear and unfortunate departure from many decisions of superior courts of records.”

He enthused that “the judgement was indeed a grotesque comedy based on fabricated fictions.

Hon Oke lamented that the judgement comically ignored some relevant facts and rules of evidence, especially on what the courts do when there are conflicting avalanche documents
that must be combed and brushed by the judex.

Hon Oke regretted the attempts by the Tribunal to frustrate the painstaking efforts of members of the National Assembly to strengthen the electoral process with approval of the use of Bimodal Voters Accreditation System in support of other paper documentations in conducting elections in Nigeria, which according to him gave credibility to the the Osun State Gubernatorial Election.

He noted that the Tribunal had impliedly in connivance with some political class put into jeopardy every reforms and investments made by the Federal Government of Nigeria and Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) in their efforts to deepen our democracy.

Hon. Oke however expressed optimism in the Appellate Courts, saying that
“thank God that there are two higher stairs to go on the ladder, l am optimistic that the comedic judgment cannot stand at appellate courts. It is bound to collapse.

The people of Osun State have clearly spoken in the election that brought in Ademola Adeleke and will frown at any illegitimate mean to deny them the light Governor Adeleke has brought into the State.”

In view of this, the Esa-Oke born Lawmaker however appealed to the people of Oriade/Obokun Federal Constituency and entire people of Osun State to remain calm as they repose their confidence in the ability of the Appellate Courts to correct the ‘buga’ comedy by the Tribunal and restore the mandate freely given to Senator Nurudeen Ademola Adeleke in the July 16th 2022 election by the good people of Osun.

Breaking: Buhari wades into Naira new notes scarcity

Breaking: Buhari wades into Naira new notes scarcity

CBN working to prevent chaos over distribution of new naira notes, says Buhari
President Muhammadu Buhari says efforts are ongoing to ensure improved distribution of the new naira notes.

In a statement on Saturday by Garba Shehu, presidential spokesperson, the president said the decision to redesign the naira notes was to address hoarding of illicit funds.

While acknowledging reports of long queues at banks, Buhari said the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) is working on initiatives to “prevent chaos” over the distribution of the new notes.

“President Muhammadu Buhari, Saturday assured that government will ensure that citizens are unharmed in their businesses and no disruption is caused to the entire supply chain arising from the currency swap due to end shortly,” the statement reads.

“Reacting to reports of long queues of people waiting for hours for their turn to deposit old notes and get new ones, triggering public anger and opposition’s criticism, President Buhari reiterated that the currency changes were aimed at people hoarding illicit funds and not the common man, and that it had become necessary to prevent counterfeits, corruption, and terrorist funding.

“This, he assured, will stabilize and strengthen the economy.

“While taking note that the poorest section of society is facing hardship as they often keep hard cash at home for various expenses, President Buhari gave strong assurances that the government will not leave them to their own fate.

“He reiterated that a number of initiatives by the Central Bank and all commercial banks are underway to speed up distribution of the new notes and do all that is necessary to forestall cash squeeze and chaos.”

Meanwhile, despite calls for an extension, the CBN has insisted on the January 31 deadline for the validity of the old naira notes.

Tribunal Judgement: Panel Chairman was Compromised , Used as Tool Against new Electoral Act -PDP

Osun Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the Osun Governorship Tribunal Chairman, Mr Tertse Kume of bias, sell out, sabotage and deliberate undermining of new electoral act, vowing to report the judge to judicial disciplinary bodies. Addressing a world press conference at Osogbo today, the party leadership led by the State Caretaker…”

Addressing a world press conference at Osogbo today, the party leadership led by the State Caretaker Chairman, Dr Adekunle Akindele affirmed that the judgement was clearly waybilled by the All Progressive Congress (APC) as the judge abandoned legal arguments and submissions to dwell on the trivial as foundation for his pronouncement.

Citing many examples of bias and personal hatred for the State Governor by the Tribunal Chairman, the PDP accused the Benue born judge of serving as the mouthpiece of the petitioners during the hearing and of personal attacks on the Governor in the ruling, citing the ridiculous reference to buga dance in the judgement.

According to him, “Our party had always suspected Mr Tertse Kumeata’s conduct in the course of hearing of the petition. Most times, the Benue State born controversial arbiter would get lost and get himself overwhelmed with his bias tendencies and enter the role of lead counsel to the petitioner, arguing points for them like a hired mercenary, even when it was obvious the hired counsels for the petitioner had lost their way.

“This reckless abuse of privilege got to a head when Mr Tartse had to step down hearing twice for the APC lead counsel to adjust and regain himself when the latter got lost in traffic of trying to adumbrate white as black in their final written address.

“What more, the premeditated stance of the tribunal chairman was clearly demonstrated in his side of the stalemate with his choice of words which we considered unethical, disrespectful and unbecoming of a judicial officer of such standing.

“Even if the judgement was waybilled to him as we suspected by his petitioner collaborators, he should have disguised and exercised some restraints by expunging the foul languages obviously written for him in local parlance of Buga lyrics to disrespect an elected governor. He shouldn’t have gone so low, low, low!

“This is more so, when he’s expected not to be too carried away or in the least, to be aware that his warped position was a mere starting point in the legal tussle in this context as provided in our extant laws.

“For us as a party, we understand the desperation of those behind the jankara judgement. We understand the trap they tried to set against the BVAS innovation in our electoral system. We understand the desperation goes beyond the Osun election or Governor Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke.

“The evil plot is ultimately against the coming general election where in their usual fraudulent habit, millions of voter cards have either been cloned, registered with ghost names and are being made ready to be deployed especially for the presidential election, in which they could smell their total rejection far ahead of time.

“In this wise and in their fraudulent anticipation, the use of BVAS machine must be discredited and rendered impotent ahead of their planned invasion of the electoral field with their fraudulent antics. However ladies and gentlemen, this is a battle they cannot win!

“The experience in Osun calls for eternal vigilance of Nigerians. Nigerians from far and near must be vigilant because the poll robbers are not resting and are not even hiding it. They are on the streets boasting already with their trade to circumvent the process against popular choice of Nigerians. This we must all fight or the nation is doomed in their hands.

“The most disturbing aspect is that they have collaborators and willing accomplices everywhere. Either in the Election management body, security or even the hallowed temple of justice like the Buga exponent, who have got drenched in his bias disposition to dare all consequences to deliver an absurdity of judgement, which was washed down his face alternately by his bench mate.

“Nigerians must be ready just as we are ready for them in Osun State. They will not win this time. There should be an end to exploits of minority crooks in our land.

“In the meantime, we call on the good people of our dear state, to be calm in steadfastness. They should be calm but be ready to defend their mandate with us. The bandits will not win when we move as one”, the party chief concluded.

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has asked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) not to issue a Certificate of Return to Gboyega Oyetola.
Naija News reports that Adeleke made the request following a judgement by the election tribunal.

Recall that the Osun State Election Petition Tribunal chaired had on Friday sacked the Osun Governor.

The ruling was given by a three-men panel led by Justice Tertse Kume.

The majority judgement of two judges against one ordered that the Certificate of Return should be withdrawn from Adeleke and issued to Adegboyega Oyetola.

The majority judgement which was read by the Chairman, Justice Tertse Kume said Oyetola scored the majority lawful votes of 314, 921 against Adeleke’s 290, 266.

But in a letter to the electoral umpire Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, Adeleke urged INEC not to issue the certificate of return to Oyetola pending the outcome of his appeal.

The letter partly signed by Hashim Abioye, lawyer to Adeleke, read: “As Solicitors to the 2nd Respondent, Senator Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, we humbly write to notify you that consequent upon the dissatisfaction of the 2nd Respondent by the najority decision of the Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal delivered on January 27, 2023, the 2nd Respondent has applied for a certified true copy of the judgement to enable him pursue his appeal against the said judgement.

“In the light of the foregoing, we humbly ask you to apply the relevant provisions of the Electoral Act, 2022, by not issuing any certificate (of) return to the 1st petitioner in the petition pending the outcome of the appeal which we are confident will be favourable to our client.”

2023: Buhari’s Govt Sabotaging My Presidential Bid — Tinubu

2023: Buhari’s Govt Sabotaging My Presidential Bid — Tinubu

Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, APC Presidential Candidate
The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on Wednesday took a swipe at the ruling APC-led Federal Government of President Muhammadu Buhari, alleging sabotage through fuel scarcity and naira redesign.

Tinubu, who spoke in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, during the APC presidential campaign rally at the MKO Abiola International Stadium also alleged plot to scuttle the election.

The former Lagos State governor, however, vowed that Nigerians will defy all odds to cast their votes, adding that the 2023 election would be a revolution.

“They don’t want this election to be held. They want to scuttle it. Will you allow them?” Tinubu asked the teeming supporters at the rally.

“They have started coming up with the issue of ‘no fuel’. Don’t worry, if there is no fuel, we will trek to cast the vote. If you like, increase the pump price of fuel, hide the fuel or change the ink on the naira notes, we will win the election,” he said.

“We will use PVCs to take over the government from them, if they like, let them say there is no fuel, we will trek there. They are full of mischief, they can say there is no fuel, they have started talking about fuel scarcity, forget about it, be rest assured. I, Asiwaju, will end fuel scarcity.

“Let the price of fuel continue to soar, they are the ones that know where they are hoarding it. You’re hoarding the naira notes, they are hoarding fuel, we will vote and we will win.

“If you like, change the ink in the naira note, you can spend lavishly and become a debtor, you will be shocked, we will win the election, the opposition (the umbrella party) will be defeated.

“I’m a youth, I’m here for you and you will not be put to shame. We will take over the government from them. They are traitors that want to wrestle the government from us; they have never done it before.

“This is a revolution; this election is a revolution. They are being cunny, they are jokers. When there’s nothing to say, they are creating artificial fuel scarcity, they are saying pump prices will increase to N200, N500, but let your mind be at rest, we will end fuel scarcity, we will end fuel crisis.”

Tinubu again reiterated his resolve for students’ loan, assuring that no student will drop out of the university because of money.

“I am assuring you one thing, there will be student loans, nobody will drop out of the university because of school fees; I guarantee you that. Nobody will have to repeat one class for eight years and not graduate, we are too smart, we are brilliant, we are courageous, we are sharp, we will make four years course four years course. You agree, will you vote, whether there is fuel or not.

“They think they can create problems, they are sabotaging fuel, whether there’s fuel or not, whether there’s a bicycle or not, whether there is tricycle or not, we will go and vote and we will win.

“This is a superior revolution and when I tell you, you know what I mean, you know me, we are going to go there to win.”

Sagay Backs Tinubu, Says Somebody Is Playing A Game

Meanwhile, Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC), Prof. Itse Sagay (SAN), has thrown his weight behind the claim by Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the ruling APC, that there are attempts to sabotage his presidential bid through naira redesign and fuel scarcity.

Speaking with Daily Independent, Sagay said he is surprised that President Muhammadu Buhari has not called Godwin Emefiele, the CBN governor, to order on his insistence that there is no going back on the January 31 deadline for the usage of the old naira notes.

“I suspect that because when people in responsible positions begin to create hardship and annoyance and anger in the population which will be directed against the government, just before an election, the effect of that is that the government is going to be blamed by the voters and they may decide out of anger to vote for another party. It will drive away votes from the ruling party which they will blame for the conditions and circumstances being created by these very dangerous people.

“What Emefiele is trying to do in saying you cannot use the existing currency after 31st of January in a situation where the new currency is not available to be used is a plot to create disaffection for the government and indirectly create an unfavourable image for that government before the populace in a few weeks to an election. There is no question about that.

“What is surprising is that no one is stopping him. The president has not stopped him and he is saying there is no going back in an action which is a sabotage of the goodwill of that government. It is just incredible.

“On fuel scarcity, I can’t understand it. It has never happened before. This is going to three months now and the NNPC is saying there is no shortage, they have enough supply for another three months. Yet, we cannot find the petrol anywhere. Somebody is a playing a game. I suspect after the election we are going to have petrol.

“I agree with what Tinubu is saying. Something underhand is going on in this country which is intended to affect the outcome of the election”.

Blackmailing Buhari Won’t Save Asiwaju From Defeat— Atiku

Again, the Atiku/Okowa Campaign Organisation has berated Tinubu for trying to blackmailPresidentBuhariand blame the APC-led Federal Government over his looming devastating rejection by Nigerians.

“Our campaign finds it pathetic that Asiwaju Tinubu is seeking a face-saving measure ahead of his shattering electoral defeat by shedding crocodile tears and claiming that the redesigning of the naira notes and the fuel crisis under the APC administration, which he has reportedly been corruptly benefitting, were plots to scuttle the 2023 general elections,” the campaign said.

The Atiku/Okowa Campaign Organisation, in a statement by its spokesperson, Kola Ologbondiyan, said it is unfortunate that Tinubu is trying to hoodwink Nigerians by seeking to exonerate himself and blame others in the Buhari led-APC administration from the biting fuel scarcity in the country, when in reality he (Asiwaju Tinubu) is known to be behind the insensitive and anti-people policies that have brought so much calamity to the country including the current persistent fuel scarcity.

“It indeed speaks volumes of Asiwaju Tinubu’s character, that while he is reported to be hugely involved in the corruption in the petroleum sector, which had led to the fuel crisis, he is pretending to care for the pains Nigerians are passing through just because it was beginning to affect his political life ambition.

“Furthermore, it is clear that Asiwaju Tinubu is lamenting over the redesigning of the naira just because the policy has frustrated his boastful plots to use slush fund, which he reportedly stashed away in secret vaults, for vote buying and manipulative schemes including alleged funding of thugs to compromise the integrity of the 2023 presidential election through the setting up of the Jagaban Army.

“Of course, only politicians who have always won elections by relying on bullion vans have become troubled over the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) monetary policy to redesign the naira.

“More reprehensible is the fact that few months to the end of the Buhari government, Asiwaju Tinubu is now struggling to distance himself from an administration which he told the world that he brought into office just because he wants to beguile Nigerians and take their votes,” the campaign said.

Let fuel be expensive, keep petrol, keep naira, I’ll win, Tinubu jabs Buhari’s govt

Let fuel be expensive, keep petrol, keep naira, I’ll win, Tinubu jabs Buhari’s govt

“You may change the ink of naira notes. What you expect will not happen. We will win”

Tinubu on fuel scarcity

The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu has said he would be elected Nigeria’s next president despite attempts by some persons to sabotage his chances in the February 25 poll.

Tinubu made the assertion Wednesday during a rally at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

He also said there is a plot by some saboteurs to stop the 2023 general elections from holding.

“Let fuel be expensive, only they know where they keep it. Keep petrol, keep the naira, we will vote and be elected. You may change the ink of naira notes. What you expect will not happen. We will win,” the APC flag-bearer was quoted as saying in Yoruba parlance.

“They said petrol will rise to N200/litre and N500/litre, let your mind be at rest. They don’t want these forthcoming elections to hold. They want to scatter it but that won’t be possible.

“They thought they could cause trouble; they sabotaged fuel but with or without fuel, with or without motorcycles and tricycles, we will vote and win. This is a superior revolution.”

“We will take over government through our PVCs. Even if they say there is no fuel, we will trek to the polling units,” he added.

President Muhammadu Buhari is the current minister of Petroleum and Nigerians have been lamenting over the scarcity of fuel that have since seen the price fluctuating between N180 to N500 across the country.

Dementia: Tinubu begging me to cease fire, Naja’atu Muhammed says
“You know, Asiwaju himself wanted to come to my house. They met my mentor Wamako, and they spoke with a lot of people for me to cease fire.”

Naja’atu Muhammed, the APC presidential campaign council’s former head of the civil society organisations directorate, says Bola Tinubu, the party’s presidential candidate, has appealed to her to “cease fire.” According to her, Mr Tinubu is suing for peace and is willing to visit her in her home to ensure that.

The APC PCC had claimed, in response to Ms Muhammed’s explosive interview with DCL Hausa, that the former head of the civil society organisations directorate was sacked due to incompetence and leaking vital information.

“It’s a lie,” Ms Muhammed told THISDAY in an interview published on Wednesday.

“You know, Asiwaju himself wanted to come to my house. They met my mentor Wamako, and they spoke with a lot of people for me to cease fire. Then, last (Monday) night, I decided that we would cease fire,” the former APC stalwart explained.

However, she said the Tinubu media team had broken the ceasefire, stressing that “the conversation continues” regarding Mr Tinubu’s mental and physical capacity to run for president.

“But then I saw this (APC’s PCC’s statement alleging she was sacked from the council). Asiwaju himself wanted to come to my house to plead with me—I swear to God almighty! They were already running helter-skelter—going from pole to pillar—for certain people that I respect to prevail on me to cease fire. As of last night, I agreed to cease fire,” Ms Muhammed explained. “But when I saw their statement this morning (Tuesday), I sent it to Farouk, and I sent it to Omar Farouk. I also sent it to a few other people that were pleading with me. I told them: ‘Ceasefire gone!’ The conversation continues.”

Ms Muhammed added, “Everything about them is paralysed. When did they sack me? Could they have written a backdated letter? When you base everything on lies—I swear: yesterday (Monday), I was feeling so bad as so many of them were pleading with me. It’s not good to be arrogant. We must always be humble.”

Injured, Vehicles, Homes Vandalised In Akwa Ibom Cult Clash

Six persons have been injured in different locations in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom state capital following the resurgence of supremacy battle between rival cult groups, Vickings and Mafians confraternities, LEADERSHIP Friday gathered yesterday.

It was learnt the Vickings’ adherents had launched a reprisal attack against the Mafians, accused of killing one of their own during the December 2022 clashes, leading to the death of five persons on both sides.

Checks by LEADERSHIP Friday revealed that the hoodlums, armed with dangerous weapons including machetes, guns and charms, attacked homes of suspected opponents at No 1, Mbiakong Street, where they macheted a tenant, vandalized a Toyota Camry car of another tenant and destroyed louvers of the house.

A resident, who would not identified himself in print, said “they (the cultists) arrived in the late night hours when we were already asleep and started destroying our home, vandalized a tenant’s Toyota Camry car parked outside the building, and heavily matcheted another tenant, who was returning from his business, while trying to access his room.”

According to another local resident, the cultists, who were said to have shot sporadically during the raid, swooped on the compound to smoke out a rival member of the opposing group, alleged to have participated in the killing of their member around the former First Bank area of the Ibom Plaza roundabout on the Uyo metropolis during the December festivities.

“They arrived when we were asleep and encircled the entire compound. Through the widow, I asked them what and who they were looking for? But they asked me to open the door, that they know who they were looking for. When I refused, they started destroying the louvers, vandalized the car and macheted one of the tenants,” he explained.

Several homes, according to him, were also destroyed along Ekpenyong street, off Barracks road and other adjoining streets, as the hoodlums intensified their search for their targets.

The police public relations officer of the state command, SP Odiko Macdon, could not pick his calls to ascertain the casual figures at the time of filling this report.

Ogun parent, student hire thugs to beat school teachers

Ogun parent, student hire thugs to beat school teachers

A secondary school student, Joshua Joseph and his mother on Tuesday allegedly hired some thugs to beat up teachers of Toyon High School in Ere, Ado-Odo area of Ogun State.

The ugly incident started when a student, his mother and the hired thugs were said to have stormed the school, located in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of the state, and descended heavily on about three teachers, inflicting injuries on them.

It was learnt that the management of the school had earlier prevented Joseph from entering the class because of his hairstyle.

A teacher identified as Mr Kabir Azeez had told the student to go and cut his hair before he would be allowed into the classroom.

But, Joshua was said to have returned to the school with his mum and a thug, who attacked the teachers.

A source said: “Three teachers were beaten – Messrs Abel Thomas, Kabir Azeez and Adegun Adekunle. The car that was destroyed belongs to Mr Jolayemi Jeromu. One of the thugs, Posu Baale, was the one who smashed the car’s windscreen.”

The Vice Principal of the school, Mrs Mariam Onilogbo confirmed the development.

This attack came despite the strategies put in place by the state government to tackle juvenile delinquencies in schools.

The ugly trend of assault on teachers remains unabated despite the mandatory undertaking forms recently signed by parents, as part of the efforts to curb the act assault in the state.

It was reported that in the last quarter of 2021, more than four teachers were beaten by their students and in some cases, in connivance with hoodlums, a development which had attracted criticism from stakeholders in the state.

Disquiet in APC over North’s support for Tinubu

Disquiet in APC over North’s support for Tinubu

QUESTIONS are being asked in the All Progressives Congress (APC) on whether its presidential candidate, Senator Bola Tinubu, truly enjoys the backing of the party’s leaders in the North.

It was learnt that barring any last-minute change of direction, the North might have decided to support one of their own, to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari who will be leaving power in May.

Amidst the disquiet, Tinubu’s running mate, Kashim Shettima, was dispatched to the North-West during the week to interface with traditional rulers and other opinion moulders in the critical zone, in what a source described as a “confidence building” move.

An ally of Tinubu who is also the president of the Arewa Youths Consultative Forum (AYCF), Alhaji Yerima Shettima, told Saturday Tribune on Friday that he would soon expose APC governors in the North who he said were secretly backing the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

“The conservative North appears not to trust him (Tinubu) and his running mate who is from a minority ethnic group in the North-East,” a credible source told Saturday Tribune during the week.

Kashim Shettima’s inter- face with the rulers started about three weeks ago with visits to some first-class traditional rulers in the North- West. For instance, Shettima has been to the palaces of the Emir of Dutse, the Emir of Kano, the Emir of Katsina, the Emir of Daura and the Emir of Zazzau.

On Wednesday, Shettima continued the interface with visits to the Emir of Yauri in Kebbi State and the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar.

It was learnt that after the North-West, Shettima will proceed to the North-Central where he is expected to pay similar visits to some prominent traditional rulers like the Emir of Borgu, the Ochi Doma, the Emir of Nasarawa, the Emir of Lafia, the Emir of Keffi, the Emir of Pom, the Ohinoyi of Ebira, the Atta of Igala and the Emir of Ilorin.

He will end the interface in the North-East where he is expected to equally visit the Shehu of Borno, the Lamido of Adamawa, the Emir of Bauchi, the Emir of Dass, the Emir Gombe, among other traditional rulers in that zone.
The former governor of Borno State, while speaking with newsmen shortly after his closed-door meeting with the Sultan of Sokoto, allayed all fears, declaring that the APC presidential candidate, Tinubu, would run an all-in- clusive government if elected in the February election.

He promised that the Tinubu/APC-led government would continue to consider the interests of all Nigerians while urging the electorate to vote Tinubu as the president of Nigeria.

He explained that he was in Sokoto on behalf of Tinubu to solicit the prayers of the Sultan for a peaceful conduct of the general election and to pay homage to the traditional ruler.

He noted that the visit to Sokoto State was necessary, being the Seat of the Caliphate, which is historic and strategic to the development and entrenchment of qualitative leadership in Nigeria.

Shettima expressed confidence that his party would win the election owing to its strength and acceptability among Nigerians.

He reiterated the APC’s preparedness to participate in the election, adding that Ti nubu was committed to the unity and development of the country.

A source who spoke to Saturday Tribune on condition of anonymity revealed that the visit of the vice presidential candidate to Sokoto was to seek support from the Sultan- ate Council.

Meanwhile, the AYCF presi- dent, Yerima Shettima, told Saturday Tribune that “the majority of the 19 northern governors are not with the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“I have evidence on the activities of APC governors who are romancing the PDP and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar. Very soon, I will expose them.”

In an exclusive interview with Saturday Tribune on Friday, Shettima said: “In the build-up to the 2015 general election, we saw how Bola Ahmed Tinubu influenced the South-West governors and their stakeholders to support President Buhari.

“In the rundown to the election, Tinubu gave them 100 percent support. We could see how he, against all olds, made sacrifices for them (governors) and other officeholders to emerge as candidates and subse- quently win elections in their respective states. But the way things are going now, they are not giving him the same support.

“Two weeks ago, there was this gathering in Lagos, organised by Northerners residing in Lagos and other South-West states to endorse Tinubu, and I was there as a special guest of honour.

“At the gathering, I came to learn that no kobo was contributed by any governor from the North. Rather, the event was singlehandedly sponsored by the Northern- ers and the traditional rulers residing in the South-West to make the event a success.

“Only the Kano State governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, demonstrated love for Tinubu by attending the event. Even his Director General, the governor of Plateau State, Simon Lalong, was not there. The question I asked was: why are we not seeing the commitment of these governors?

“Even the president, we have only seen him in a few places. He is not making his presence felt in the cam- paigns. What is going wrong? If they are not committed, why did they allow him (Tinubu) to get the ticket in the first place? I think something is fishy.

“My candid advice to Tinubu is that he should not rely on the APC governors as most of them have failed their people. Some of them cannot go back and talk to the people on the direction to follow.

“Only a few of them are with him. If the Southern gover- nors are not with him, we do not expect the Northern governors not to be with him.

“You know, Northerners, by our culture and standards, we are meant to be honest and sincere. If we say this is where we want to belong, we stay there, no matter what. But today, unfortunately, we don’t keep to our word.”

Only enemies of Nigeria will vote for Atiku, Tinubu as president – Obasanjo

Only enemies of Nigeria will vote for Atiku, Tinubu as president – Obasanjo

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, on Thursday, reaffirmed his support for the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, in the February 25 election.

The former president, who spoke at an interactive session organised by the Experiential Leadership in Africa (TEL-Africa) in Abeokuta, Ogun State, said the former Anambra State governor was ahead of other individuals eyeing the nation’s highest political office in his reckoning because of good character.

Obasanjo had on January 1 picked the LP standard bearer as his preferred candidate ahead of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) flag bearer, Atiku Abubakar, and Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) for the election.

In his latest remark, the former military ruler declared that only the enemies of the country would vote for Obi’s challengers in the poll.

Obasanjo said he knows the four candidates a little bit and can speak about them as their mentor.

He said: “I will be punished by God if I know what is right and I did not put it where it should be.

“I take a character, track record, vision and I take what you see in this man as a child of God.

“Why should you as a Nigerian vote for somebody with the character, the reputation, and the life of which you do not want your own children to be?

“it either you are wicked, you are unpatriotic or you are really, really a bad citizen of this country, and then if this is who you are, what do you want God to do with you, and that is the way I see it.”

Grace Moses spoke with newsmen shortly after the Court adjourned the case involving the governor and her son, Emmanuel Sanwo-Olu.

“My message to Sanwo-Olu is that he should come and collect his child. The baby is grown up. He is troubling me. If not for God, I would have been dead by now.”

Grace Moses said because of the pregnancy she couldn’t go to school due to pressure from her mother who chased her out of the house because they had waited for Sanwo-Olu to no avail.

She said, in her bid to also abort the baby, she drank “lime” saying, “E nor dey commot.”

Grace Moses said she sold pigs for people and she was paid one hundred and fifty naira which she used as upkeep for herself and the child.

“The baby is now grown and he’s threatening to kill me if I do not show him his father”.

The woman claimed she met the governor in 1995 when she was 19 years old.

Lagos vulcaniser sentenced to death by hanging for stealing N57,000 from nurse

Lagos vulcaniser sentenced to death by hanging for stealing N57,000 from nurse

A 32-year-old vulcaniser has been sentenced to death by hanging for robbing a nurse of N57,000 at Akesan bus stop, near Igando, Lagos.

An Ikeja Special Offences Court presided over by Justice Mojisola Dada sentenced Chidozie Onyinchiz on Tuesday, Jan. 17.

Justice Dada held that the prosecution had proved the three-count charge of conspiracy, armed robbery and membership of an unlawful society against Onyinchiz.

Dada said the convict’s attempt to wriggle out of the charges was futile because he had earlier confirmed to the police at Igando, Lagos, that his victim, Mrs Veronica Uwayzor sighted him and they both recognised each other at the time of the offence.

Justice Dada said: “The defendant had stated that the complainant pointed at him as one of the boys armed with a pair of scissors and forcefully snatched her bag containing N57,000 at Akesan Bus Stop.

“The complainant had stated that neither the defendant nor his accomplice, Ediri Endurance, (still at large) wore masks which made it possible for her to easily recognise Onyinchiz few hours after the robbery.

“The first statement of the defendant which he made at Igando Police Station confirmed that he and Ediri went to Akesan Bus Stop on the day of the robbery.

“Onyinchiz admitted to belonging to an unlawful society as he stated that: ‘this is my first time of coming to Akesan to steal. I was initiated into Eiye Confraternity in 2009 but I have not killed before.’

“The same information of him being a vulcaniser was also contained in the statement he made at Igando police station and the one he made at the Special Anti-Robbery Squad office at Ikeja.

“In his confessional statement, Onyinchiz stated that he met Ediri Endurance in a public bus and Endurance took him to his father’s house after the bus developed fault.

“He also stated that they ended up sleeping in an uncompleted building because Endurance’s father did not open the door for them to spend the night in his house.

“The statement corroborated the submission of the victim that she was accosted at about 4.30 a.m. by two boys holding an iron rod and a pair of scissors on the day of the incident.

“She said the two boys were the ones who robbed her.

“The totality of the evidence before the court is compelling and I find the defendant guilty of the charges preferred against him.”

“He is hereby sentenced to death by hanging and may God have mercy on his soul,” Justice Dada concluded.

Mrs Afolake Onayinka, The state prosecutor had earlier told the court that the convict committed the offences with an accomplice still at large on Aug.12, 2018, adding that the complainant ran into a white garment church after the defendant robbed her.

The shepherd of the church alerted landlords in the area which led to the arrest of Onyinchiz while Endurance escaped, she said.

Tunde Ayeni, Adaobi’ And The Messy Paternity Tussle In Abuja

Tunde Ayeni, Adaobi’ And The Messy Paternity Tussle In Abuja

About a week ago, Businessman, Tunde Ayeni issued a strongly worded press statement to debunk the rumour making the rounds linking him to the paternity row involving an Abuja big girl named Adaobi Alagwu.

For weeks now, the FCT rumour mill has been abuzz with the tale of the paternity row, however, in the statement released by Ayeni’s team, Adaobi was described as “Ada yellow and Skinny Ada also known as Bad Bitch Ada has been known to hold a day job of a lawyer and also work as a professional escort to numerous business men within Abuja, Lagos and Port Harcourt, notably men who can help her maintain the fake lifestyle she has been struggling to keep up with in the eyes of the public”.

The statement went on to describe the paternity claim by Ada as “nothing but a wild claim at blackmailing the Billionaire for the sake of getting her hands on some of the Billionaires wealth” and dared “Ada and her family to provide any evidence to prove all of this, but clearly, she and her family are shamelessly on a mission to Slander Mr. Tunde Ayeni, cause him reputational harm and lay claim to his wealth at all cost through the false accusation of paternity”.

Now sources close to Adaobi have opened a can of worms and according to sources familiar with the duo, ‘Ayeni just pretends he is a rich man in billions but all he really does is to struggle for positions with real politicians as he’s currently doing with the Atiku campaign as evident with his appearance at the PDP rally in Kogi State recently where he mostly just hustled for photo ops’.

Now in a pregnancy dispute with a 30 year old girl younger than his first and only  daughter. The source described Ayeni’s initial statement as a panic move and an attempt to shut Adaobi up because ‘he suddenly realised his folly and the lifetime pain this has brought on his long suffering wife and children. Not only is Adaobi Amam as young as his daughter, she was in fact in the same class as his daughter. He dated and flaunted her openly and with no regard for his family and friends. He gifted his building, right next to a supposedly serious business entity of his (address withheld) to her out of fear he might lose her. He gifted her the house she lives in Lakeview, and purchased a choice property for her mother to live in. This act of his drove his daughter to shame. Whilst his daughter struggles he set up Adaobi’s chambers, gifted her a range rover from his fleet and is constantly at her office even in the full glare of his hardworking staff next block’.

Adaobi is also described by those who know her as ‘so mean, she shouts, abuses all his staff at will and controls their actions largely because he forces his managers to accord her undue respect ’. Ayeni’s relationship with Adaobi is also said to have started when Ayeni broke the unspoken gentleman code with his long time bosom friend, Greg Uanseru. According to reports, Greg it was, who was playing and fiddling with Adaobi before Ayeni ‘snatched’ her from him by outspending Greg and all others.

Describing his many struggles within the political space, Ayeni is said to ‘be battling tooth and nail to secure his place with Atiku so as to be the one monies will be placed with. In the last six years where he has spent most of his time chasing Adaobi his business has suffered. Ayeni has been desperately appearing in all Atikus pictures in order to compromise people and make them believe he is very important in Atikus campaign. An Atiku victory and the possibility of men like Ayeni running the government with him surely spells doom for the nation'.

Let's not even talk about Jacky of Portharcourt who is another girlfriend and how angry she is about Ada and how many managers have been made to resign just because he continues to mismanage all the affairs. He forces briefs from FETs which is meant to be a serious business on Airbridge chambers embarrassingly. Hr spent so much money renovating her office, pays for her security, its just scary to imagine him in a position to control the country's resources.

Not resting on her oars, Adaobi and her firm 'Airbridge Solicitors', according to close sources, says ‘she’s ready to drag him through the mud if he continues to deny the paternity of her daughter. She says he encouraged her to get pregnant and many witnesses can attest to it that early last year she was a constant regular at his Solween house just as she lived with him in his Rhine street address’.

Ada has also mentioned that many times in the past she had actually walked out of the relationship with Ayeni only for Ayeni to run to her mother and other family members on bended knees to beg.

See locations of 800 homes likely to give way

Lagos State is a land of opportunities. But with the opportunities come overpopulation, which causes intense congestion that threatens to paralyse the state, particularly concerning traffic gridlock. However, the Lagos State government has come up with a solution to deal with these pressures and that solution is building the Fourth Mainland Bridge.

The Fourth Mainland Bridge is a huge project in Lagos which will require billions of naira. The project has not started yet but it has already shown that there will be a lot of victims. Although the motive behind constructing the bridge is adjudged reasonable, even recommendable, many controversies surround it

The Fourth Mainland Bridge is a proposed 38 km long bridge project by the Lagos State Government connecting Lagos Island by way of Langbasa (Lekki) and Baiyeku (Ikorodu) across the Lagos Lagoon to Itamaga, in Ikorodu. The bridge is expected to become the second longest Bridge in Africa, featuring three toll plazas and 9 interchanges across a 4.5-kilometre Lagoon Bridge.

APC Presidential Candidate, Tinubu Can’t Recite First Chapter Of Qur’an, Raises Doubts Among Northern Nigerians About His Muslim Faith – US Scholar, Kperogi

APC Presidential Candidate, Tinubu Can’t Recite First Chapter Of Qur’an, Raises Doubts Among Northern Nigerians About His Muslim Faith – US Scholar, Kperogi
APC Presidential Candidate, Tinubu Can’t Recite First Chapter Of Qur’an, Raises Doubts Among Northern Nigerians About His Muslim Faith – US Scholar, Kperogi

He said that the conversation about the same-faith character of the Tinubu-Shettima ticket appeared to be shifting to questions about whether, in fact, Tinubu is a Muslim.

A Nigerian-American professor and newspaper columnist, Farooq Kperogi, has questioned whether the All Progressives Congress, APC’s presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, is actually a muslim in the real sense of it.

Farouq in an opinion article published on Saturday, titled: "From “Muslim-Muslim” to “is he really a Muslim?”, hinged his comments on the inconsistency of the APC candidate to recite Sūrat al-Fātiḥah, the first chapter of the Qur’an.

He said that the conversation about the same-faith character of the Tinubu-Shettima ticket appeared to be shifting to questions about whether, in fact, Tinubu is a Muslim.

He noted that Tinubu’s multiple stumbles with reciting Sūrat al-Fātiḥah, the first chapter of the Qur’an were evident when in one instance, he said “bismillahir rahmanir rahim” before saying “auzubillah minashaitan ni rajeem” instead of the other way around.

The media scholar stated that Tinubu had another instance, said “auzubillah minashaitan ni rajeem, bismillahir rahmanir rahim” and couldn’t proceed to the next verse. In confusion, he attempted to translate the verse from Arabic into English but bungled it and even ended up saying “God, the father of all,” which is both an incorrect translation of “Alhamdu lillahi Rabbil ‘Alamin” (which actually translates as “Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Universe”) and a doctrinal outrage in Islam.

Farouq stated that APC presidential candidate's call of Allah “father” during an address to Muslims in Kaduna had stirred the question from many Muslim faithfuls to question his Muslim faith.

According to the article, the trending video shows him straining excessively hard—and failing— to recite “Alhamdu lillahi Rabbil ‘Alamin,” the second verse of Sūrat al-Fātiḥah, which he had erroneously translated as “God, the father of all” in a previous mishap.

Kperogi said, “Not since 1993 when MKO Abiola chose Babagana Kingibe as his running mate has the religious complexion of a presidential ticket excited the passions of Nigerians as much as Bola Tinubu’s choice of Kashim Shettima as his running mate. It at once got some Christians enraged and some Muslims engaged.

“For a long time, Muslim clerical investment in the Tinubu-Shettima ticket, at least in the Northwest, was proportional to the amount of Christian opposition to it. For instance, in late 2022, an audio recording of a northern Christian, which went viral on WhatsApp, said the victory or defeat of the Tinubu-Shettima ticket in 2023 would be a referendum on the numerical strength of Christians and Muslims in Nigeria.

“Of course, that was a supremely shallow and simplistic, not to mention reductionist, religionization of voting behavior. Many people vote for reasons other than religion. Peter Obi, whom the audio touted as the “Christian” candidate, will get many Muslim votes, and both Tinubu and Atiku will get many Christian votes.

“But that audio—and several others like it—inspired a backlash of reciprocal religious particularism from previously politically aloof Salafist Muslim clerics in the Hausaphone North who now preach that the success of the Tinubu-Shettima ticket—or, as they call it, Musilim-Musilim ticket—is a religious imperative and that Muslims should support it to signal the supremacy of Islam in Nigeria. That’s also silly, superficial drivel that ignores the complexity of voting behavior and the multiplicity of impulses that propel people to vote.

“Anyway, the conversation about the same-faith character of the Tinubu-Shettima ticket appears to be shifting to questions about whether, in fact, Tinubu is a Muslim. This discursive shift is instigated by Tinubu’s multiple stumbles with reciting Sūrat al-Fātiḥah, the first chapter of the Qur’an. In one instance, he said “bismillahir rahmanir rahim” before saying “auzubillah minashaitan ni rajeem” instead of the other way around.

“In another instance, he said “auzubillah minashaitan ni rajeem, bismillahir rahmanir rahim” and couldn’t proceed to the next verse.

“Well, my own sense is that Tinubu is a cultural Muslim. His hometown of Iragbiji in Osun State is predominantly Muslim, particularly when he grew up there in the 1960s. Like most kids in the town, he attended ile kewu (which Hausa speakers call makarantar allo), that is, an informal school for Islamic learning. The way he says “auzubillah minashaitan ni rajeem, bismillahir rahmanir rahim” clearly shows that he was born into Islam and learned to say it from an impressionable age.

“I suspect that after leaving Iragbiji for Lagos (and later for the United States), he ceased to be an observant Muslim, but hasn’t given up his Muslim identity. His trip-ups with reciting the Qur’an first chapter, in my opinion, don’t indicate that he isn’t a Muslim; they only indicate that he hasn’t been praying for most of his post-Iragbiji life.

“Tinubu, as I pointed out in a previous article in 2022, is an effectively non-religious but nominal Muslim. He chose a northern Muslim running mate for precisely that reason. Until recently, Tinubu didn’t identify with Islam publicly, is married to a pastor, and all his children are Christians. He sees himself first as a Yoruba man before he is a nominal Muslim

How I Converted From A Christian to Islam- Fashola

Former Governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Fashola has disclosed how he converted to Islam and how he has been living peacefully with his wife and other family members who are Christians.

In an interview with TVC News, Fashola disclosed that he was born into a family where his father was a Muslim and his mother, a Christian. He said growing up he practiced Christianity and attended the cathedral Church of Saint Jude in Ebute-Meta, Lagos with his mother, however, when he became an adult he simply told his mother that he wanted to worship God like his father and that was how converted to Islam.

Speaking further, he revealed that his wife who is a Christian holds a respected title in the Catholic Church where she worships and their separate way of worship has never triggered dispute in their home. According to Fashola, he and his wife celebrate both Muslim and Christian festivals together.

In Fashola’s exact words: “In my own home, my father was Muslim, my mother is Anglican. I grew up in the Anglican Church in Saint Jude’s Church, Ebute-Meta before I just said as an adult okay mommy I am leaving you I am going to worship like my father. How you worship and all of that really doesn’t (sic), the important thing, do you serve God?

“So my wife is a Dame of the Catholic Church. she is a title holder in that Church and so is her mother and we haven’t had a religious conversation in our house. She fasts with me during Ramadan and I join her sometimes in length. We celebrate Christmas, new year, and Ramadan. I have eight siblings: some are Muslims and some are Christians but we are one big happy family”
