BREAKING: Police restore Obasa’s security details, Withdraw Meranda’s as ex-Lagos speaker set for return, per Daily Trust

BREAKING: Police restore Obasa’s security details, Withdraw Meranda’s as ex-Lagos speaker set for return, per Daily Trust

Hon. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa who was impeached as speaker of the Lagos House of Assembly on January 13, 2025, is set to return as the new Speaker

Obasa's security details has now been restored just as those of Hon. Mojisola Lasbat Meranda, have been withdrawn.

Meranda was Obasa’s deputy before the impeachment. After his removal, the house unanimously elected Meranda, making her the first female to occupy the position in the history of the state.

Though she’s yet to officially resign as the Speaker of the House, her fate was reportedly sealed over the weekend by key All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders who intervened in the crisis rocking the House of Assembly.

Former National Chairman of APC, Chief Bisi Akande, former Governor of Ogun State, Chief Olusegun Osoba, former Commissioner for Justice, Dr. Muiz Banire and members of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC) and some of the lawmakers had met over the weekend to find a resolution to the crisis.

It was at the meeting that the fate of Meranda was sealed as she was reportedly asked to vacate her seat.

There are indications that Obasa might return as the Speaker as following the resolutions reached by the leaders which largely favoured Obasa’s return.

Just In: CP Withdraws Police Escorts from Lagos Speaker and Assembly Complex

Just In: CP Withdraws Police Escorts from Lagos Speaker and Assembly Complex

If the reports emerging from the Lagos State Assembly Complex are accurate, then this may be a critical security risk for the Speaker and other lawmakers. The Commissioner of Police has allegedly ordered the immediate withdrawal of all police personnel assigned to Rt. Hon. Mojisola Meranda, Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, as well as those securing the Assembly complex and the Oniru of Iruland’s palace.

This sudden decision has raised serious concerns among lawmakers, political observers, and political stakeholders, as it leaves the Speaker and the Assembly vulnerable to potential security threats.

Members of the Lagos State House of Assembly and other stakeholders have expressed shock and concern over the decision, questioning the rationale behind the CP’s directive. Some have described the move as a direct attack on the security and stability of the legislative arm of government in Lagos State.
Lagos stakeholders are in shock that, despite reaching an agreement for Mudashiru Obasa, the former speaker to resign, Meranda to step down, and Lagos West to produce the new Speaker, the sudden withdrawal of police security has now taken place.

A source within the Assembly, who spoke on condition of anonymity, described the withdrawal as unprecedented and worrisome.

"Why would the CP take such a drastic step without explanation? The Speaker, being the head of a key arm of government, requires adequate security. The withdrawal of police personnel from the Assembly complex itself raises even bigger concerns," the source stated.

The withdrawal of security from the Lagos Assembly complex comes at a time when security concerns in the country remain a major issue. The decision has left both the Speaker and the Assembly unprotected, raising fears of possible security breaches.

It is yet to be established why the CP ordered the withdrawal or whether alternative security arrangements have been made. Attempts to reach police authorities for clarification have been unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.

With lawmakers and political stakeholders demanding answers, all eyes are now on the Lagos State Government and the Nigeria Police Force to address the security concerns and ensure that governance in the state is not disrupted.

No doubt that MKO Abiola won the June 12 elections

“Although I am on record to have stated after the election that Abiola may not have won the election, upon deeper reflection and a closer examination of all available facts, particularly the detailed election results, which are published as an appendix to this book, there was no doubt that MKO Abiola won the June 12 elections.”

Snippets from ‘A Journey in Service,’ the autobiography of former Nigeria military head of state General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB).

The long-awaited autobiography, which was reviewed by former Vice-President, Yemi Osinbajo, was released today, February 20, 2025, at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja.

Osinbajo disclosed that IBB admitted that the late Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola, popularly known as MKO Abiola, won the June 12, 1993 presidential election.

He quoted the former military general in his book that if he had to do it all over again, he would do it differently.

He stated: “He also answers the question whether Abiola actually won the June 12 election, and I quote him, ‘although I am on record to have stated after the election that Abiola may not have won the election, upon deeper reflection and a closer examination of all available facts, particularly the detailed election results, which are published as an appendix to this book, there was no doubt that MKO Abiola won the June 12 elections.”

Version Conflict: Tension in Lagos Assembly as Police Barricade Lawmakers Over Alleged Bomb Scare

Tension in Lagos Assembly as Police Barricade Lawmakers Over Alleged Bomb Scare

There is heightened tension at the Lagos State House of Assembly as security operatives reportedly locked lawmakers inside their offices on Monday, February 17, 2025.

The development comes amid the ongoing crisis in the Assembly following the recent removal of former Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa and the appointment of a new speaker. Reports indicate that the Assembly complex, including the chamber and the speaker’s office, has been barricaded by police officers.

According to security sources, the lockdown is due to an alleged bomb scare within the premises. However, insiders suggest that the unfolding events may be linked to efforts to pressure the newly appointed speaker into resigning.

The unexpected security clampdown occurred just hours before the scheduled plenary session at 12 noon,  raising further concerns about the stability of the legislative body.

Lawmakers and staff trapped inside the complex have reportedly been left in confusion, with many questioning the true motive behind the police action.

As of the time of filing this report, official statements from the Assembly leadership and security agencies are yet to be released. However, the situation remains tense as concerned observers await further developments.

Primate Ayodele Appeals To GTCO CEO, Segun Agbaje For Journalists' Freedom Amid Ongoing Trial

Primate Ayodele Appeals To GTCO CEO, Segun Agbaje For Journalists' Freedom Amid Ongoing Trial

Primate Elijah Ayodele, leader of the INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, has called on Guaranty Trust Holding Company (GTCO) and its Group Chief Executive Officer, Segun Agbaje, to withdraw the ongoing legal case against four journalists currently facing trial over alleged cyberstalking and defamation.

Speaking at his annual Thanksgiving Ceremony held at INRI Estate, Oke Afa, Lagos, Primate Ayodele emphasized the need for compassion and justice, urging Agbaje to allow the journalists to reunite with their families.

"I use my position as a man of God to appeal to Segun Agbaje and GTCO to withdraw this case against the journalists and stop subjecting them to unnecessary hardship. Justice should not be weaponized to silence the press. If there are grievances, they should be resolved amicably, not through prolonged legal battles that infringe on their fundamental rights," he stated.

The detained journalists—Precious Eze, Olawale Rotimi, Rowland Olonishuwa, and Seun Odunlami—have been held at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre since their arrests in September by the police Special Fraud Unit (PSFU) in Ikoyi. They are accused of conspiracy, cyberstalking, and publishing false allegations against GTCO and its CEO.

Despite pleas from their legal counsel, Justice Ayokunle Faji of the Federal High Court in Ikoyi denied their bail application, prolonging their detention. The case has been adjourned to February 19 and 20, 2025, for the continuation of the trial-within-trial.

Primate Ayodele further cautioned against using legal means to intimidate journalists, stressing that press freedom is a pillar of democracy. He urged GTCO and Agbaje to demonstrate leadership by embracing dialogue over litigation.

"Journalists play a crucial role in society. They must not be treated as criminals for doing their jobs. I urge those involved to embrace reconciliation and fairness, rather than legal persecution," he added.

God of Our Fathers: Dr. Joel Adeniran Reflects on Baba Aladura’s Legacy in the Cherubim and Seraphim Movement Church"

The history of the remarkable and impactful work of CSP (Conference Supervising Prophet) Dr. Joel Adeniran within the Cherubim and Seraphim Movement Church (CSMC) speaks for itself. As a special apostle, prophet, and doctor, Dr. Adeniran is playing a significant role in spreading the CSMC faith worldwide. He recently appeared on the Winning Soul for Christ Radio & TV program, hosted by Akolade Oladuni, where he shared the powerful story of how CSMC expanded from Western Nigeria to the Northern regions, thanks to the efforts of the first-ever Baba Aladura, Nathaniel Ekundayo Coker.

Dr. Adeniran explained that Baba Aladura, a government worker in Lagos, played a vital role in spreading the faith, even taking the message to Onitsha and Kaduna. He attributed Baba Aladura's ability to reach a broad audience to his education, which helped him in his evangelical efforts. Baba Aladura's pioneering work in the 1940s laid the foundation for what CSMC has become today, with spiritual leaders across the generations building upon his legacy. Dr. Adeniran quoted Proverbs 6, emphasizing the importance of learning and following the rules as Baba Aladura did.

From 1940 to 1970, Baba Aladura Nathaniel Ekundayo Coker reached many in the North, where the faith was quickly embraced. In this period, he transformed the name of the church to the C&S Society and made Kaduna its headquarters, an idea he introduced. With his modern wisdom, Baba Aladura also led efforts to purchase land in Kaduna and expand the movement across Northern Nigeria.

Some of his achievements include bringing Prophet Odutus to the North and introducing Pastor Olujimi to the Kaduna fold. In 1941, the first church was built at a cost of £1,020, and the carpenter who worked on it traveled all the way from Ibadan to Kaduna. By 1942, Baba Aladura was referred to as the General Overseer, and the church was initially known as Aladura before becoming the Cherubim and Seraphim Movement Church (CSMC). Later, in 1959, Baba Aladura Nathaniel Ekundayo Coker became the first incumbent Baba Aladura of CSMC worldwide.

Dr. Adeniran also shared that Baba Aladura established clear rules for the movement, such as the requirement of five districts before one could be appointed Baba Aladura. Additionally, he played a key role in the creation of five important districts: Kaduna and its surroundings, Jos, Zaria, Minna, and others that followed. Under his leadership, another significant cathedral was built, with a cost of £20,000, reflecting the strength of the movement.

Throughout his tenure, Baba Aladura laid the groundwork for the CSMC’s spiritual and organizational development, setting a path for future leaders. Dr. Adeniran emphasized that this journey is not based on age or personal achievement, but on God's will. He reflected on how many of the pioneers of the faith are no longer alive, and it is important to preserve and share the history of their efforts.

Before concluding, Dr. Adeniran prayed for the world and announced the ICOP program through the platform of WSFC, inviting everyone to witness the second coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

PDP Gradually Emptying, Following Mass Exodus Of Over 300 Members In Ofu LGA, Kogi

PDP Gradually Emptying, Following Mass Exodus Of Over 300 Members In Ofu LGA, Kogi

As the internal crisis of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) continues to grow without a foreseeable reprieve or resolution, egress from the Party has began. Without a doubt, all is not well with the opposition with the escalating mass exodus of key players, the latest being former political office holders in Ofu Local Government Kogi state.

Following the resignation of the party’s senatorial candidate in the 2023 general election; Hon. Victor Adoji who is also from the affected Local Government, the forum of Local Government chairmen and political office holders between 2004—2016 have resigned their membership of the Party and joined the ruling All Progressive Congress  (APC).

Resignees of the forum of these past leaders include: Honourable Obetule Emele Emmanuel (JP) council leader, Honourable Ochidi Danjuma supervisor, Honourable Sumaila Aruwa Councilor, Honourable Ibrahim Attah Supervisor, Honourable Daniel Mamudu councilor, Honourable Danmusa Ainoko supervisor, Honourable Salisu Usman supervisor, Honourable Samson Abraham councilor, Honourable Emmanuel Odoh Councilor, Honourable Alex Iyaji Councilor, Honourable Sumaila Shaibu councilor, Honourable Philip Usman councilor, Honourable Danusa Igah councilor, Honourable Halimat Yunusa councilor, Honourable Godwin Etuh councilor, Honourable Gabriel Ohiemi Special Advisor, Honourable Abdul Attah Special Advisor, Honourable Hassan Usman Special Advisor, Honourable Danusa Pius Ocheja Special Advisor, Honourable John Tokula Special Advisor, Engr. Gabriel Itanyi Special Advisor, Abdullahi Nuhu Special Assistant, among others.

However, while the ruling APC will officially  welcome the afforementioned stakeholders into the party shortly, Mr Adoji’s next party is still unknown and it’s undoubtedly the reason why few other stakeholders still stay put. Albeit, copies of the various resignation letters already in public commonly attributed their decision to personal ground, empirical fact suggest that the mass exodus of the opposition stakeholders in the Local government is not unconnected to high-handedness, self interest and profiteering attitude of the excos. It was alleged that, ordinarily, the party has all it takes to win election at all levels in the state save for the excos pecuniary interest. A source who spoke on condition of anonymity vehemently stated that, the excos extinguished PDP Kindle light in Ofu with their relentless priority of money and other personal gains to the detriment of the overall interest of the party.

Why Bola Ige was killed by ‘government’ – Bisi Akande

Why Bola Ige was killed by ‘government’ – Bisi Akande

He recounted how a friend, Oluwole Rotimi, warned Ige against leaving Obasanjo’s cabinet as such move could cost him his life
A former interim Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Bisi Akande, has shed more light on the circumstances surrounding the death of former Attorney General of the Federation, Bola Ige.

Akande revealed that the government has a hand in the assassination of Ige, adding that Ige’s murder was not unconnected to his decision to resigned from the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Akande made the revelation when he featured on Edmund Obilo’s podcast, State Affairs.

He recounted how a friend, Oluwole Rotimi, warned Ige against leaving Obasanjo’s cabinet as such move could cost him his life.

The former Osun State governor insisted that Ige did not make a mistake by joining Obasanjo’s administration because he had the blessing of Afenifere and the defunct Alliance for Democracy, AD.

“One evening, he called me and said he was going to resign from this government tomorrow. It was sudden, and I said, ‘Please sir, I will come back to you.’ I called Oluwole Rotimi, and this is what your friend told me: that he was going to resign from Obasanjo’s government tomorrow.

“He asked me to advise him not to resign because if he does, he is likely going to die—he said that to me on the phone. I called Uncle (Ige) and begged him not to resign.”

Akande said Wole Soyinka and Bola Tinubu asked Ige to resign when he told them as he no longer trusted Obasanjo.

“He said he had talked to Wole Soyinka and Bola Tinubu, and both of them said he should resign. But I said, ‘Don’t. You can go to Obasanjo, tell him what you are angry about, and if he doesn’t want you anymore, here is your letter.’”

On Ige trusting Obasanjo, Akande said: “Since he was resigning from his government, I think he stopped trusting him.”

When asked who killed Bola Ige, Akande said:

“I don’t know. He was killed in Oyo State while I was ruling in Osun State. The government killed him (Bola Ige). It was a state murder.

“Lam Adesina, who was the Chief Security Officer of Oyo State then, went to court, and Ladoja withdrew the case from court. He might know more and be able to tell you.

“It was the government that killed him, and the government can kill anybody.

“Obasanjo wasn’t keen about Ige’s death; he was more interested in the stability of himself.”
