Pastor killed inside church, corpse burnt on the altar

Pastor killed inside church, corpse burnt on the altar

Tragedy struck in Ile-Ife, Osun State when an Assistant Priest Lekan Ogundipe killed the Presiding Priest of Celestial Church of Christ at Omitoto area, Evangelist Moris Fadehan inside church and burnt his corpse on the altar.

It was gathered that the incident occurred on Monday evening after the presiding priest resumed for prayer.

Ogundipe was said to have ambushed him with bell, knives and nails, stabbing him repeatedly.

It was learnt that unresolved case of physical assault by the Assistant Priest on a prophetess simply identified as Mummy Ewa last Wednesday caused a rift between the duo.

The owner of the church, Pa Olafare in a video obtained on Tuesday explained: “The deceased had reported to me that he was to disengage Lekan (suspect) as his assistant over many unlawful acts.

“Most recent of it include the assault on a prophetess in the church last week Wednesday and I agreed with him, but he added that he will take the decision after consulting with the elders.

“But while I was about to eat on Monday evening, the said Lekan came to the house and told me fire was burning on the deceased body and that he was lifeless on the floor.

” I drove back with him and my wife to the church where we found the deceased body burnt inside the church.

“We discovered blood stained on different parts of his body and cuts. While asking him how he got the stains, he attempted to run. We grabbed him and lock him in my car before calling in the police.

“We unwrapped the deceased body and discovered that there was nail in his ear and several cut on the head and neck before we took the body to the morgue of Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital, Ile-Ife.

“Meanwhile Lekan later confessed to the police that he perpetrated the crime because of dispute with the deceased,” he said.

The Prophetess explained: “the suspect attacked me last week Wednesday when I told him to stop telling members that we were in a relationship, Pastor Fadehan met the unfortunate inident and warned Lekan against assault on the Church.”

Osun Police spokesman Yemisi Opalola confirmed Ogundipe, who is the suspect, had been arrested and the corpse of Pastor Fadehan deposited in the morgue for autopsy

BREAKING: Protests rock Lagos, others, as NLC kick-starts nationwide ‘hardship’ strike amidst tight security

Members of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) have started protests in several parts of the country over the biting economic hardship.

Labour and Federal Government authorities had met Monday in a late push to stop the protests, but the meeting ended with no agreement reached between the parties.

As early as 7:00 am, protesters started gathering in different parts of the country, bearing placards and putting on the paraphernalia of the NLC.

Reports gathered by our correspondents showed a heavy presence of security personnel in various states of the federation, as protesters expressed their frustrations at the current nationwide hardship.

Our correspondent who was on the ground at the scene of the protest at the Ikeja under the bridge area of Lagos State gathered that the Labour Congress has been joined by some other Unions, such as the Nigerian Union of Teachers, (NUT), The Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE) among others.

The unions are expected to hold the rally moving from the convergence point in Ikeja to the State House of Assembly in Alausa.

The presence of Policemen manning every major junction along the three kilometres planned route was sighted, following the Force’s promise to ensure peace and order during the protests.

The rally comes hours after a failed last-minute effort by the Federal Government to avert the NLC two-day warning strike and national protests against economic hardship in the country (Pieced together from Channels TV reports)

Rumble In RCCG As Pastor Adeboye Asks City Of David Pastor, Iluyomade To Resign Amidst Wigwe’s Death

Rumble In RCCG As Pastor Adeboye Asks City Of David Pastor, Iluyomade To Resign Amidst Wigwe’s Death

Rumble In RCCG As Pastor Adeboye Asks City Of David Pastor, Iluyomade To Resign Amidst Wigwe’s Death
There is currently a rising rumble within the camp of the Redeem Christian Church of God, RCCG, and if not amicably settled things may tear apart as contained in the book of Chinua Achebe.

From a reliable source, there is a cold war, presently between the led-Pastor and General Overseer of the RCCG,  Pastor Enoch Adeboye, and the RCCG Pastor in charge of the City of David, Pastor Idowu Iluyomade.

Pastor Adeboye was claimed to have allegedly directed RCCG City of David Pastor Iluyomade to resign his position as the lead pastor of the RCCG church branch. Unexpectedly, Pastor Iluyomade was claimed to have grossly refuted the directive with displeasure.

Aside from being the Pastor of RCCG Region 20, City of David, Pastor Idowu Iluyomade is also the Special Assistant to the RCCG General Overseer, Pastor Adeboye, on Christian Social Responsibility (CSR).

However, the springing difference between Pastor Adeboye and his right-hand man, Pastor Iluyomade, could not be unconnected to the recent events that surrounded the death of the Group Chief Executive Officer (Group CEO) of Access Holdings Plc, Herbert Wigwe.

Recall that Herbert Wigwe died recently in America in a helicopter crash alongside his wife, son, and business partner. Wigwe has been a member of the RCCG, worships with the City of David branch, and is a very high financial contributor to the church.

Following the death of Wigwe, his family had shockingly directed RCCG to never attempt to come near his burial service even though Wigwe had contributed billions of naira to the developments of the church.

The decision of the family could have been influenced by a lavish birthday ceremony organized by Pastor Iluyomade for his wife, even a few days after Wigwe’s death.

Pastor Adeboye’s alleged directive requesting Pastor Iluyomade’s resignation as RCCG City of David Pastor is to calm the atmosphere and appease the family of Wigwe who had been infuriated by Pastor Siju Iluyomade’s flamboyant birthday party, a few days after the biggest benefactor of the church, Wigwe, died.

Nationwide protest to go on as FG’s meeting with NLC ends in deadlock

Nationwide protest to go on as FG’s meeting with NLC ends in deadlock

The meeting between representatives of the Federal Government and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has ended in stalemate.

In last-minute efforts to prevent the protest, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, had invited Labour leaders to his office.

Aside from the SGF, Ministers of Agriculture; budget and national planning; Labour and Employment; Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Head of Service of the Federation, as well as the Director General of the Department of State Service (DSS), attended the meeting.

A source at the meeting told Daily Trust that government officials appealed to the labour leaders to shelve the protests because it may lead to breakdown or law and order.

They said isolated protests in some states were nearly hijacked by hoodlums before the security agents curtailed the situation.

As the meeting progressed, the labour leaders took a break from where they broke into another meeting  for consultation.

At the end,  NLC President, Comrade Joe Ajaero, said despite the intervention to avert the nationwide protests, it would go on as scheduled.

He however, urged the security agents to protect the protesters.

when asked on the warning from the DSS, he said, “I would say despite the warning from the DSS, the rally goes on, but it is part of their (security agencies) constitutional responsibility to make sure that the rally is peaceful.
“And while we are going to try our own side to make sure it’s a peaceful rally, that’s all.”

When asked on the unions protesting at the National Assembly, Ajaero said, “Usually, there is no rally that we just do for the sake of walking around. We have demands that we present. Maybe by Tuesday when we present these demands, a copy of it will be made public.”
Government representatives were, however, not available for comments.

Pockets of protests had broken out in Kano, Niger, Oyo, Edo, Lagos, Kano, Sokoto, Borno and Osun, among other states, with protesters urging the government to take decisive steps to bring the hardship to an end.

The leadership of the NLC had declared a two-day nationwide protest for February 27 and 28 after government failed to implement some of the agreements reached with the congress.

POPULATION PROPAGANDA IN NIGERIA AND BY NIGERIANS IN PARTICULAR.

POPULATION PROPAGANDA IN NIGERIA AND BY NIGERIANS IN PARTICULAR.

Since United States of America (USA) elements, those who collect money from Africans and humour the payers with fake and doubtful population statistics, appear to be interested in comparative populations of the various African countries and ethnic groups, may I plead that those corrupt USA elements step aside and let representatives of the United Nations Population Commission conduct proper census of each African country - with populations of the ethnic groups within each country also captured. Then, we shall be working with and speaking about actual population statistics of African countries and not the fake and doubtful population figures that all African countries now parade, the worst being the populations of the ethnic groups. Until this is done, let the ethnic jingoists and the corrupt Americans they procure stop talking nonsense about population sizes of African countries and their ethnic groups. The worst African offenders in this disgraceful population propaganda with corrupt Americans are Nigerians.

Ile Omo mose orimolade int ministries Cherubim / Seraphim asked white garment churches task force to act on Pastors, native doctors that worked together to get lady’s head, hands for money ritual

Pastors, native doctors worked together to get lady’s head, hands for money ritual

The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, Abiodun Alamutu, has revealed how his command arrested self-acclaimed prophets and native doctors actively involved in sourcing for human head and hands needed by one of them for money ritual, leading to the murder of a lady, Sulaimon Adijat.

He gave the names of the suspects as Asela, Oluwo Mandela, Oluwalolese, Akinwunmi Ifatosin, Jamiu Yusuf a.k.a Eri Mose, Agbai and Alioneitouria.

Agbai and Alioneitouria from Edo State had earlier been Oluwo Mandela’s money ritual clients. Before their arrest, they were said to be demanding a refund of the money they paid to Oluwo Mandela since what he did for them did not work.

Briefing journalists on the case, the police commissioner said the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Onipanu Division received a report on January 9 that Adijat, aged 35, had not been seen since she was invited for a date by one Azeez residing at Ajegunle Road, Atan Ota. Her family told the police that their efforts to locate her had been futile while her mobile phone was switched off.

“Consequently, the Anti Kidnapping Unit of the Command was drafted to unravel the mystery behind her disappearance. The team embarked on a technical-based investigation which led to the arrest of seven suspects who participated actively in the abduction and eventual murder of the missing Adijat,” CP Alamutu said.

Saturday Tribune learnt of the findings by the detectives which revealed that on November 19, 2023, Agbai and Alioneitouria contacted Oluwo Mandela to perform money ritual known as ‘Oshole’ that could produce N200 million within seven days. For the request, Oluwo Mandela asked for N800,000 as charges.

In furtherance of his assigned task, Oluwo Mandela reportedly contacted Oluwalolese who is a prophet and head of a white garment church in Ibadan, Oyo State, to help him source for human parts of a female, specifically the head, breasts, private parts and two wrists for the money ritual.

Oluwalolese, in turn, called his colleague, Prophet Jamiu Yusuf, a.k.a. Eri Mose, based in Lagos State, who also connected with the native doctor, Asela, living in Atan Ota. He was also said to have demanded payment of N600,000 for the job which was negotiated by Oluwo Mandela and reduced to N300,000.

To achieve the aim, Asela reportedly called Azeez, a cultist who is currently at large, to help him get human parts, an assignment the runaway suspect carried out by inviting Adijat on a date to a hotel in Atan Ota.

The lady was later taken to Asela’s shrine at Igbo Olomi area of Atan Ota, killed and dismembered, after which the body parts were taken to Asela’s house at Atan Ota to meet Oluwo Mandela and Oluwalolese who were waiting for the arrival of the needed human parts.

Police investigations also revealed that Oluwo Mandela collected the parts, put them in an earthenware pot and burnt them with other ingredients till the following day.

Oluwalolese was also said to have played the role of killing a ram to appease the spirit of the deceased during the process of performing the money ritual, while he and Eri Mose also got some of the body parts.

CP Alamutu continued: “On January 10, 2024, Sheriff Agbai and Osojieahen Alioneitouria collected the money ritual from Oluwo Mandela and travelled back to their location in Edo State. Trouble however started when Alioneitouria used the money ritual element as directed by Oluwo Mandela and complained bitterly that it failed to yield the expected sum of N200 million in seven days despite having used it for three weeks.”

The police commissioner said that a search was conducted in Asela’s shrine at Igbo Olomi, Atan Ota on February 3. Exhibits recovered from the suspects included an axe, 10 female handbags, three earthenware pots, two sacks containing human parts and bones, a wooden box containing ingredients for the ritual, two gallons with human parts in them, criminal charms, crown and staff of office of Oba Isegun Zone One and crown and staff of office for Oluwo Madote of Ifo Zone belonging to Moses.

A relative of the deceased was also said to have come to the police station and identified one of the 10 bags recovered as that of late Adijat. The police boss added that the arrested suspects confessed to the crime and the roles they played individually. Saturday Tribune also interviewed the suspects. The excerpts went thus:

Asela

“I’m from Ifon in Ondo State but I live in Atan Ota. I’m 45 years old.  I’m a native doctor. I started about eight years ago. I inherited the practice from my paternal grandfather who used to take care of the sick and those with diseases. I came from my town to Atan to continue with my trado-medical practice.”

Why I was arrested

“I was picked up through intelligence gathering by detectives. They got my link from Azeez. I was told that a lady whom Azeez knew very well and was calling was missing. There’s a native doctor called Oluwo Mandela. He was living in Ifo. He said that he needed human parts. Oluwo was introduced to me by a prophet, Eri Mose who was living at Ijegun-Ikotun in Lagos State.

“I was connected with Eri Mose through another prophet who lives in Iju and used to called me to treat those with diseases in his church or tell him what he could do that would yield positive results. We have been together for about three years.

“I told Oluwo that I would contact someone from whom we could get the human parts. I called Azeez who used to come to me. He is a young man. He once brought his asthmatic father to me for treatment, and when the man got well, Azeez became frequent in my place. He told me that he is a member of Eiye cult group, and that anytime there was a rivalry clash between cult group members, they usually killed some.

“He spoke of how his friend was killed and his head and hands were severed and taken away. Azeez told me that they used to throw the remaining human parts away. He said that I should let him know if any of my clients would need the parts.

“That was why I called Azeez when Oluwo made his request known. He promised to get them for me, and he brought the human parts to me in a sack. He didn’t tell me where he got them from. I paid him N150,000, out of which he gave me N20,000. I gave them to Oluwo.”

Oluwo

“I am popularly known as Oluwo Mandela. I’m a native doctor. I’m from Badagry, Lagos State. I’m 42. I inherited the profession from my family.

“This is my first time of using human parts for money ritual. I knew Asela on January 9 this year through a pastor friend, Pastor Peter Oluwalolese. The pastor and I got to know each through a WhatsApp platform. The platform belongs to all, irrespective of creed, religion and profession. It was meant for us to interact with one another.

“When I needed human heads and hands for ritual purpose, I asked the pastor if he could help me get them. He replied that he would contact Asela and when he did, he told us that he would help to get them.

“When Asela got the human parts, we went to his house where it was burnt into powder in an earthenware pot. It was to be used by me to get wealth. I paid N150,000 for the parts. I got the prescription of getting human parts for wealth through a Facebook account with the name ’T’ewe T’egbo’.”

He admitted hearing about those who did the same ritual but were caught, saying: “I made a huge mistake.” He said that he was apprehended by the police after they got Asela.

Yusuf Jamiu

“I was named Yusuf Jamiu by my parents but started answering Eri Mose when I started as a prophet. It was my friend, Pastor Oluwalolese, who called to tell me that someone needed human head and hands. I already had information about Asela that he used to have human parts for sale.

“What I had wanted to do was to spend part of the money Oluwo was to pay before sending the rest to Asela. That was what put me in trouble. There was a young man, who is late now. He was also a prophet. He was the one who told me about Asela. I didn’t get any money from the payment made.”

Oluwalolese

“I’m 48 years old from Ondo Town. I live at Apata in Ibadan, Oyo State. I have a church with the name ‘God Has Done It’ which started in 2015.”

On how he got involved in getting human parts for sale, the pastor said: “It’s a grave mistake on my part. I have never used such a thing in my life, but I got connected through online friendship. We used to communicate a lot. That was why Oluwo asked me to help him look for the body parts.

“I feel sore in my heart that I was the one who introduced him to Eri Mose who got in contact with Asela for the body parts. It was when we were arrested that I learnt that a lady was murdered to get her body parts.”

CP Alamutu said that efforts were ongoing to arrest the suspects at large while the ones already in police custody would be charged to court after the completion of investigations.
Prophetess Orikolade ask white garment churches to deregister and closed such churches, she stretched further that many of such harbalist turned into church are many and task force should closed such church, she called on head of unification to use their power,.

NGIJ's Call to President Tinubu: Address Economic and Security Concerns Before Nigerians Take to the Streets

NGIJ's Call to President Tinubu: Address Economic and Security Concerns Before Nigerians Take to the Streets

The Nigerian Guild of Investigative Journalists (NGIJ) has calls on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his All Progressives Congress led-administration to swiftly address pressing issues relating to the economy and security of the country, before Nigerians take to the streets.

In a statement issued on Friday in Abuja, jointly signed by the President and National Secretary of The Guild, Mr. Ayoyemi Mojoyinola and Abdulrahman Aliagan respectively.

"We believe that urgent action is needed in order to prevent further deterioration of these crucial aspects of Nigerian society to avoid street protest that may have negative effect on the nation at large. NGIJ stated.

According to the statement, "We implore the Tinubu led-government to immediately put an end to the dollarisation of the Nigerian economy.

"We noted that the excessive reliance on foreign currency has had a detrimental effect on our nation's economic stability and is hindering the growth and development of local businesses.

"It is vital that steps are taken to promote the use of the Nigerian Naira and protect its value." The Guild said.

"Secondly, we request that the government formulates a comprehensive policy to mitigate the impact of the Fuel Subsidy removal. This decision has burdened Nigerian citizens with high fuel prices and has resulted in increased living costs for many. It is imperative that measures are put in place to alleviate the financial strain on the Nigerian people."

NGIJ however expresses concern regarding the distribution of the N15,000 palliative. "We firmly believe that this aid will be marred by corruption and will not reach those who are most in need. It is crucial that efficient and transparent mechanisms are established to ensure that relief funds reach the intended beneficiaries.

"Additionally, we urge the government to consider policies that are inclusive and benefit all Nigerians. It is imperative that measures are implemented which take into account a wide spectrum of the population, ensuring that they have access to essential services and a decent standard of living." NGIJ maintained.

The Guild pointed out that the issue of insecurity in Nigeria has reached extreme levels, causing distress and fear among citizens.

"No place is safe, and urgent action must be taken to address this matter effectively.

"We call upon the government to prioritise the security of its people and implement strategies that can restore peace and stability throughout the nation.

"Finally, as a body of Journalists, we implore President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to provide sustainable solutions that will guide Nigeria out of its current economic and security quagmire. It is crucial that decisive action is taken to steer the country back onto the right track, both economically and in terms of security." It said.

The Nigerian Guild of Investigative Journalists (NGIJ) stands ready to support the government in addressing these critical issues and will remain vigilant in ensuring that the interests of the Nigerian people are upheld.

"We therefore call on President  to consider our recommendations and take immediate action to propel Nigeria forward towards economic prosperity and security of lives and property in Nigeria. The statement concludes.

CURRENCY FLOAT: IT IS TIME TO CONTROL THE MARKETS, SAYS OLAWEPO-HASHIM

PRESS RELEASE

CURRENCY FLOAT: IT IS TIME TO CONTROL THE MARKETS, SAYS OLAWEPO-HASHIM

Thursday 22 February, 2024, Abuja, Nigeria:

A former Presidential Candidate and a Chieftain of the All Progressive Congress, APC, Mr. Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim has counseled that the time has come for the Federal government to dump the free float of the Naira in exchange to other currencies, for the “Nigerian traditional managed float and allocate Nigeria's forex and domestic resource for Nation's economic and national priorities.”

For some time now, especially since the “floating” of the exchange rate by the current regime, the jet speed with which the nation’s currency has been depreciating has migrated to a worrisome lightening speed, pushing the rate to about N1900 to one United States Dollar today.

In a statement released by his media office in Abuja on Thursday, Olawepo-Hashim explained that “It would be delusional to manage Nigeria's foreign exchange regime with the expectation that the market would correct itself when the Nigeria market is controlled by different criminal gangs.”

According to him, “It is also time for real Central Bankers to assume control of the Central Bank rather than commercial bankers and even elements at the fringes of commercial banking who have hijacked the management of our monetary policies in the past two decades.”

Not a few Nigerians have been alarmed at the  sudden emergence of the banks and their Chief Executives as foreign exchange speculators, as allegations are rife that most of these banks have perfected the acts of warehousing large volumes of foreign currencies with a view to trading with them at higher rates.

Olawepo-Hashim therefore argued that “no serious nation in the world would continue to manage its affairs on the basis of failed recommendations by officials of Brettonwoods institutions who have consistently misadvised Nigeria to continuously devalue its currency for about 38 years.”

He added that “my generation stoutly resisted these package in the great Anti-SAP revolts of 1989. The present variant of the market allocation is the most extreme ever experienced which is seeing naira exchange at N1900 to a dollar compared to N8 to a dollar which we resisted fiercely in 1989.”

He also maintained that having removed subsidy on Petroleum products with all the very hard consequences, it is bad Economic planning to allow naira to go on the free fall as devaluation would continuously erode any fiscal gain of subsidy removal necessitating another round of subsidy and subsidy removal which the economy at 32% inflation cannot absorb.

Olawepo-Hashim also emphasized that the much sought after investors whether local or foreign would be hard to find in a season of currency volatility and high inflation eroding purchasing power of consumers, and therefore called for an urgent need to stabilise the economy and tame volatility through “Common sense Economics.”

According to Asari Dokubo, a leader of the Niger Delta insurgents, Muhammadu Buhari’s previous administration hired him to guard the Abuja–Kaduna route.

Throughout Buhari’s two tenure as president of Nigeria, the roadway was thought to be among the riskiest and most dangerous for travelers due to frequent kidnappings and killings.

But in the twilight of the immediate past government, reports of violence crashed significantly, according to POSTREPORTERS.
When he paid a visit to President Bola Tinubu at Aso Rock last month, Dokubo had claimed that his footmen and combatants were responsible for the axis’s stability.

But in a recently released video, Dokubo boasted that his intervention was what restored peace and tranquility to the highway.

He stated that while he was not on good terms with Buhari for most of his government, the ex-President recognised the potential in him and assigned him a critical duty.

He was quoted by Daily Trust as saying: “If the Buhari-led government can engage me to bring safety for the people on the Abuja-Kaduna road, it should be commended. Do you know how many lives were saved? Do you know how many people were brought out from depression and trauma? Have you ever spoken to people who have been kidnapped?

“We did not employ ourselves. The government saw the potential in us and knowing that we can deliver and they engaged us. That the Buhari government engaged me shows that they know who I am. I was not a friend of Buhari. For seven years, I was anti-Buhari. Buhari with all that saw the capacity in me that I am capable and the government came.”

Meanwhile attempts to reach Garba Shehu, Buhari’s spokesman, for comment were unsuccessful as of the time of reporting this report, as he rejected calls put through to him.

BREAKING: Tears as Lion kills OAU Veterinary Staff, Olabode Olawuyi

The Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), located in Ile-Ife, Osun State, is reeling from a devastating loss following the tragic death of Mr. Olabode Olawuyi, a Veterinary Technologist who served as the caretaker of the Zoological garden for over a decade.

According to a press release issued by the University’s Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Olarewaju, the unfortunate incident occurred on Monday, 19th February, 2024. Mr. Olawuyi was attacked by a 9-year-old male lion while he was carrying out his duties of feeding the animals within their enclosure at the Zoological garden.

Despite the valiant efforts of other staff members present at the scene, the attack proved fatal, resulting in severe injuries to Mr. Olawuyi.

Upon receiving the distressing news, the University’s management, led by Vice-Chancellor Professor Adebayo Simeon BAMIRE, immediately halted ongoing activities to assess the situation firsthand.

Despite all medical efforts, as confirmed by the Acting Director of the University Health and Medical Centre, Dr. Tirimisiyu Olatunji, Mr. Olawuyi succumbed to his injuries.

In response to the incident, the aggressive lion responsible for the attack has been euthanized by the authorities. Mr. Olawuyi had been responsible for the care of the lions since their birth on campus approximately nine years ago, making the tragic circumstances of his death even more poignant.

In a show of support, the University management has dispatched a delegation to extend condolences to the deceased’s widow and children, urging them to find solace in faith during this challenging time.

Meanwhile, Vice-Chancellor Professor Adebayo Simeon BAMIRE has ordered a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident, aiming to determine both its immediate and underlying causes.

THE UNTOLD TRUE STORY OF DORCAS BABALOLA, WIFE OF APOSTLE JOSEPH AYO BABALOLA

THE UNTOLD TRUE STORY OF DORCAS BABALOLA, WIFE OF APOSTLE JOSEPH AYO BABALOLA

Apostle Joseph Ayo Babalola was called into the ministry in 1928 at the age of 24 when he encountered the voice of God at Ikeji Arakeji while working for a road construction company as the driver of the steam roller.

Babalola started his ministry that same year and God began to work with him confirming His Word with outstanding miracles, notable signs and wonders.

By the year 1930, his fame began to spread abroad most especially due to his amazing exploits at the Great Revival that happened at Ilesa which changed the spiritual climate of the western region.

It is not an overstatement to say that the impact of the great revival was felt virtually all over the country.

Apostle Joseph Ayo Babalola became a force to be reckoned with in the Nigerian church and became the leader of the pentecostal movement in Nigeria. His name was virtually on every lip both of friends and foes, admirers and critics.

Babalola however remained single and many of his family members, followers and colleagues were becoming curious as to why he was not considering marriage being a church leader.

It then came to pass that after persistent pressure from his father, Pa David Rotimi Talabi, Apostle Joseph Ayo Babalola got married to Dorcas on April 25, 1935.

About 6000 people attended the wedding and he received a total gift of 3 pounds, 10 shillings and 6 pence.

The wedding took place at the first Aladura assembly at Efon Alaaye and was conducted by Pastor David Odubanjo, Pastor J.S.B Odusona and Pastor Medaiyese.

Apostle Babalola met his wife a virgin and had to give her 2 pounds and 10 shillings for the virginity, a custom of the Yoruba people at that time.

During their lifetime, Babalola used to call his wife " Mama Abiye" and Dorcas would also call him "Baba Abiye". They settled down in Efon Alaaye.

Much has been said about Dorcas Babalola.

Dorcas was born on March 10, 1912 to the family of Fowowe at Ilesa. Many people regarded Dorcas as being mean and aggressive but we have to look at the circumstances of her frustrations.

In the first few years of their marriage, sometimes Dorcas would cook from morning till evening for visitors. Later, some people came to give her a helping hand and some would bring food to their home because the house was always filled with people.

The no-privacy life eventually wore Dorcas out. Dorcas was extremely stressed primarily because of the Apostle's busy schedule; otherwise she was humorous.

Their sitting room was always besieged and turned to a classroom; there were 47 children the Apostle was either sponsoring or tutoring, and who were always coming in and out of the house.

Apostle Babalola hardly slept on his 'Vono' bed. He vacated it to sleep on a camp bed and sometimes on the floor. All these compounded Dorcas' frustrations.

What also added to her frustration was that many times her husband would go on lengthy mission and would not return home for over a week.

Dorcas was not able to go with him for two main reasons:

1) She could not have withstood the harsh condition of missionary work ; Babalola did not get a car until 1953. He was either trekking several miles or riding on a Raleigh bicycle or using a public transportation (usually a lorry) that was always overloaded with other missionaries, all men. When Apostle Babalola traveled alone to rejoin other missionaries, he did so, most of the times, after midnight and before dawn.

2) People were always in the house even when Babalola was away.

At some Point, Dorcas would try to prevent Babalola from stepping out of the house because she felt he needed some rest. Also, she sometimes took her frustration out on the sponsored children when her husband was away on missions; the children might be subjected to compulsory fasting.

It was extremely difficult for both couple balancing family life with the work of God because of the conditions of missions field then.

Evidently Apostle Babalola gave priority to the call of God and building the church. There was no time for vacationing; the church even planned to organize a trip to Israel for him but it never materialized. Fortunately, people are reaping of his labour till today.

In spite of the slight hiccup in their marriage, there was no case of domestic violence between them. They were both responsible in the discharge of their home duties. Babalola always told people he loved his wife; he always respected her and never maligned her.

After Apostle Babalola slept in the Lord in 1959, Dorcas stayed at Efon Alaaye till 1962 when she finally relocated to Ilesa with her daughters.

At Ilesa, Dorcas traded in raw food products, especially beans. She remained a member of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC). She was appointed as the patroness of CAC, Okesa, Ilesa.

Dorcas died at Ilesa on December 28, 1993 and was laid to rest on January 15, 1994 behind CAC, Okesa.

Eminent clergymen graced the burial ceremony; Pastor Olu Alokan led the wake keeping ceremony, Pastor D.O Babajide led the prayers while Pastor E.H.L Olusheye who worked closely with the family preached at the burial service.

Pastor Olusheye praised Dorcas for her motherly care, strength and courage.

Most people out of ignorance or misinformation have labeled this woman a witch and a thorn in Babalola's flesh; hence the necessity of this research so as for people to be able to understand what she went through as the young wife of a man who was a public property.

Security Forces Comb Bushes After Gunmen Kidnap Travellers In Ondo

Security Forces Comb Bushes After Gunmen Kidnap Travellers In Ondo

Following the kidnap of travellers in Ondo State, the State Police Command has ordered the deployment of Special Squads to the Akunnu Akoko area of the state to rescue the victims and arrest their abductors.

Recall that some travellers were abducted on Friday evening by kidnappers in an area between Akunu Akoko and Iyere in the State.

LEADERSHIP gathered that the kidnap victims who were travelling in an 18-seater bus were taken away into the forest, while their driver was shot dead.

According to a source, a little girl was, however, left behind in the bus by the hoodlums.

Although a combined team of Policemen, Soldiers, and hunters arrived at the scene and promptly began combing the bushes, no trace of the kidnappers had been found so far.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, while reacting to the incident on Sunday, said personnel drawn from various tactical units led by the Special Anti-Kidnapping Squad have also been briefed and deployed to the area for the rescue of the victims and possible arrest of the suspects.

Odunlami-Omisanya said, “The command has, however, enjoined the people of the state and the general motoring public not to panic”, insisting that the incident was an isolated case that does not determine the security status of the state.

The development has created tensions among residents over a likely resurgence of kidnapping in the state.

Recall that the Amotekun Corps in the state had paraded several suspects involved in the kidnapping in recent times, with a promise to stem the tide of the menace and other violent crimes in the state.

The Corps, under the late Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, had demanded the use of automatic rifles to enable it to tackle the bandits who are often well-armed with such lethal weapons.

Four killed as hoodlums abduct five in Ogun

Four killed as hoodlums abduct five in Ogun

No fewer than four persons have allegedly been killed while one other was said to have escaped death as unknown persons reportedly abducted five men in Oke Irinja, Owode Yewa, Ogun State.

PUNCH Metro gathered on Sunday that the quartet of Adamu Saliu, 21; Aliu Babuga, 24; Dairu Salihu, 32; and Mohammed Abdulai, 35, were the victims of Saturday’s incident.

According to the information made exclusively available to our correspondent by a police source, the four herders were abducted in a bush in the community.

The police source said the dead bodies of the victims were found with ropes tied around each of their necks inside a bush along Sokoto Road in Ilobi via Owode Yewa.

An eyewitness, identified as Saliu Amodu, who claimed to be the brother of the victims, was said to have told the Owode Yewa Divisional Police Headquarters that the five abductees were in a bush with their cattle when some unknown men brought a vehicle that a certain chief in the community wanted to see them in.

Unknown to them that there was no such call from anybody, PUNCH Metro learnt that Amodu told the police that the five of them were said to have entered the said vehicle, and the man who drove the vehicle to the area and others entered and then drove off.

“They were my brothers. They were with their cows in the bush when some men brought a vehicle that Baale wanted to see them in. The five of them immediately followed the men and entered the vehicle.

“They were taken to Sokoto Road, Ilobi, where the dead bodies of four out of the five that left the bush were found,” Amodu was quoted as having told the police.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident to PUNCH Metro on Sunday, noting that the police had begun an investigation to unravel the circumstances behind the incident.

“The corpses have been taken to the General Hospital in Ilaro for autopsy. We are investigating the incident to unravel the reasons behind it. No cow was stolen. And nothing was taken from them,” the state police spokesperson told PUNCH Metro.

While the state police command had yet to unravel the cause of Saturday’s attack, herders in Ogun West had been reportedly accused by some communities in the region of destroying their farms and water sources through the open grazing of cows.

One of the communities is Aworo in Yewa North Local Government Area which reportedly chased some herdsmen from their village over a similar accusation. Lives and property were reportedly lost during the time of the conflict.

Though the police said the crime could not be connected to suspected rustlers, they told PUNCH Metro that complaints over “poddy dodgers” had increased.

The police added, “More complaints about poddy dodgers. The best thing to do is to call their Sariki to mark their cows, take pictures and videos of their cows, and post on social media that may curb cattle rustling.”

Could you tell us a little about yourself?

My name is Joshua Femi Korode, and I currently reside in the United States. Professionally, I practice law, and in terms of ministry, I serve as a youth minister, worship leader, and Bible teacher. I am blessed with a loving wife and two sons, and I hold the position of the firstborn in my family.

How did you receive the news of your father’s death?

I received a call from my siblings in Nigeria informing me that my father had stopped responding. We had to verify the information with a medical practitioner. It was on a Sunday evening in Nigeria that I confirmed my father’s passing. The experience was incredibly painful, especially considering I wasn’t there with him, although my family was by his side. Realizing that our father figure would no longer be there for us was disheartening. My father, who always reached out, was no longer part of our lives. The same sentiments were felt by my mother and the rest of the family, as he had been an exemplar of strength and faith. My mother was profoundly devastated and pained by the loss.

After spending almost a year in Nigeria following his time in the US, my father’s health showed signs of improvement, bringing us a sense of hope. However, the doctors advised us to keep a close eye on him daily, as the timeline for his full recovery remained uncertain. Some days, he displayed remarkable strength, while on others, he seemed a bit more fatigued. We remained vigilant, praying for his complete recovery, all the while understanding that it would be an ongoing process requiring daily monitoring.

When was your last interaction with him?

My last interaction with him occurred a few weeks before he passed away. Upon learning from my mother that he wasn’t eating, I would call him to offer encouragement and devise strategic ways to motivate him to eat.

What would you miss about him?

The examples he set continue to resonate with us, serving as a testament that one can excel in their career, ministry, and as a family person. These are the aspects of him that I truly miss. Having him with me meant there was always something to aspire to, as he could offer advice on any matter. While many express condolences with a simple “sorry for your loss,” in his case, it was more like, “Oh, this is the man that God used to help me when I was broke when I was sick… he did this, he did that.” These were the testimonials from colleagues and people around him. He was a man who prioritized maintaining his good name over compromising his integrity. What I miss most about him are his care, wisdom, and the love he showered upon all his children. Despite his busy business endeavours, he established rules that reflected extraordinary love for his entire family.

How would you describe his relationship with you and your siblings?

One cherished memory my siblings and I have of him is from the time he worked as a group manager many years ago. Despite being given lunch vouchers to buy meals for himself at work, he rarely used them. Instead, he would bring the vouchers home, creating a tradition where we eagerly awaited his return. On many occasions, we discovered he was fasting, but the joy of receiving him at home was heightened because we knew his bag would be filled with goodies. His practical and thoughtful nature was evident in the numerous tributes people wrote on the website we opened for him. In fact, we had to increase the website’s capacity to accommodate all the heartfelt messages people wanted to share.

What are the values he applied as a father?

My father was a strict disciplinarian, known for his unwavering principles and integrity, both at home, at work, and in the church. I recall a distant memory from when I first attempted to learn how to drive. I mistakenly shifted the car into neutral, causing it to dash into the gate and incur some damage. In a hurried attempt to rectify the situation, I, along with my siblings, returned the car to its original position before our father returned. Upon his arrival, he inquired about the incident, and we all feigned ignorance. However, when he eventually discovered that I was responsible, he gave me a good spanking. After I had finished crying, I approached him, apologized, and explained that I was only trying to learn how to drive. He responded, “I didn’t punish you for damaging the car; I punished you because when I asked, you were quiet.” This incident left a lasting impression on me regarding the importance of integrity and the lesson in being honest and truthful. It motivated me and made me realize that this man valued one’s actions more than the mistakes made.

Can you highlight some of his unique attributes?

He is forgiving, provided you are truthful. Throughout my life, my father has only administered physical discipline to me twice, and on both occasions, it was impactful. He didn’t resort to beating or spanking as a mere reaction to punishment but rather as a method of teaching. If he ever spanked you, it was to ensure that you grasped the essential lesson in that particular situation. Both my mother and father possessed this ability. They didn’t rely on physical punishment, but rather, they aimed to ensure that you understood the message they were conveying. Once the lesson was learned, there was no need for further physical discipline.

Could you recall any fond memories of him?

In contrast to those who recall their parents as strict, our memories are filled with a father who was principled yet lighthearted. We shared laughter and played together, an experience not shared by many of my friends. The way he cared for my mother served as a powerful model for us, demonstrating what it means to take care of our future spouses when we get married. Despite the knowledge that they had their share of issues, we never witnessed them engage in conflicts; they were adept at keeping disagreements private. This uniqueness struck us, as we had never observed any signs of discord, even when we tried to play detective and speculate if they ever had any potential disagreements.

We even had house helps whom we eventually referred to as “aunty” because we couldn’t distinguish between ourselves and them. He truly exemplified a good life to us, emphasizing the importance of preserving the family’s reputation and our own. He instilled in us the ability to say no to enticing offers that could lead to negative consequences. This lesson was particularly challenging to grasp, as visitors often came to our house seeking prayers or blessings, and, as children, we were frequently offered money and gifts. However, he insisted we decline such offerings, believing that accepting gifts could compromise our honesty with the givers.

It’s not that he didn’t value money, but he worked hard to build himself and achieve financial success. His belief was rooted in the idea that exchanging one’s integrity for money would lead to regret, so he consciously avoided it. Everyone was aware that approaching Prophet Korode’s house for prayer to offer money might even result in him avoiding you. He was not one to appreciate the ostentatious display of wealth, oppression, or similar behaviours.

As a busy person, how was he able to combine career, church and family?

When I reflect on Baba, the words that come to mind are self-discipline and his remarkable ability to compartmentalize tasks. When it’s time for work or ministry, he approaches it with utmost seriousness, never compromising on the proper placement of things. He is a meticulous planner, using a journal to organize his activities. There’s also a creative side to him, evident from his days as a poet, a skill that translated into the hymns of the Ayo Ni o album, where he served as one of the chief songwriters for its successful songs. His success can be attributed to his discipline and the meticulous segmentation of his tasks within specific time frames, ensuring he was always on point. He excelled as a marriage counsellor, with my phone often inundated with messages from people thanking my father for his invaluable advice that helped salvage their marriages. When couples sought his guidance, he would pray with them and then inquire about their individual roles as husbands and wives. He was known for....

Super Eagles Talk Tough, As Musa, Omeruo Want Double

Super Eagles Talk Tough, As Musa, Omeruo Want Double

Captain Ahmed Musa and defender Kenneth Omeruo were in the Super Eagles’ squad that last won the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title, back in 2013 in South Africa. They are also in the present squad that is at the cusp of glory in Cote d’Ivoire, with the final match against the host nation taking place on tonight at the 60,000 -capacity Stade Olympique Alassane Ouattara in Ebimpé.

Forty-eight hours before the match, Musa, who scored against Mali in a 4-1 win for Nigeria in the semifinals in South Africa 11 years ago, and is Nigeria’s record goalscorer at the FIFA World Cup with four goals, was very relaxed in a brief chat with thenff.com at the team’s Pullman Hotel in the Plateau district of Cote d’Ivoire’s industrial and economic capital.

“It is a feeling you can’t always properly describe. Winning the AFCON and touching the trophy is an unforgettable experience. Omeruo and myself experienced that when we won in South Africa. But I want another one and he also wants another one. The good feeling and experience must be double double.”

Omeruo, also very relaxed and in company with filial relations, corroborated the team leader: “We want that special feeling again – the feeling of being a champion of Africa. We have not gone this far to throw it away now. We have thrown everything into the six matches we have played here. We will give more than 100 percent against the Ivorians on Sunday.”

When Cote d’Ivoire hosted the competition 40 years ago, the Super Eagles also played in the final match, but against Cameroon. The hosts failed to qualify from the group stage. That was an era when the final competition welcomed only eight teams.

Today, the tournament welcomes 24 teams (nearly half the member federations of CAF), making it a far bigger competition with so much glamour, glitz, grit and plenty of drama.

After a 0-4 trashing by Equatorial Guinea in their final group phase game, many thought the Elephants had been eliminated. But Hakim Ziyech’s goal days later eliminated Zambia and sneaked the Elephants into the knock-out rounds, where they have prospered.

Nigeria’s on-field captain William Ekong said he expects the final between the Eagles and the Elephants to be a classic.

“It will not be a tea party, and we won’t be going out there with a tea cup. We will work hard and fight hard for the trophy.”

On his own, coach Jose Peseiro described Musa as a special and important member of the team. “Ahmed Musa is special and important to the team. He is my assistant, he advises me, and he gives me the necessary support. He is committed in his role and can play. We shall wait and see, but we want to win the AFCON for Musa to lift the trophy.”

Meanwhile, Cote d’Ivoire coach, Emerse Fae has said that the match will be a different ball game from the group stage played early in the tournament.

“The fact that Nigeria had beaten us is a good thing because we know whom we are up against. The manner in which we prepare for the match with our players is critical. I think that the Super Eagles and ourselves are at the same level.

“We have a great opportunity; we are 90 minutes away from adding a third star to the Ivorian jersey. The teams are on equal footing, psychologically. As the competition has progressed, the Nigerian team has gained strength. We had a very difficult journey at the beginning, but we gained momentum from the round of 16 against Senegal.”

“Like any high-level match, like any final, it will come down to the details. We will be patient. We will not rush. We will focus on starting the match well and be patient in order to unsettle them.”

In the midst of cry of hunger occasioned by the rising cost of food items, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Thursday, directed the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security to release about 42,000 metric tons of maize, millet, garri and other commodities from its strategic reserve to Nigerians.

Minister of Information and National Orientation Mohammed Idris said this while briefing State House correspondents in Abuja.

He said 60,000 metric tons of rice to be sourced from the Rice Millers Association of Nigeria would also be distributed.

The minister said the decision was part of measures by the federal government to ensure food becomes more readily available to Nigerians.

Idris said: “Today’s meeting was again on the issue of difficulty, like I said two days ago, of putting food on the table of most Nigerians, and the federal government has come up with several measures to ensure that food becomes more readily available to Nigerians.

“The first one is that the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security has been directed to release about 42,000 metric tons of maize, millet, garri and other commodities in their strategic reserve so that these items will be made available to Nigerians; 42000 metric tons immediately.

“The second one is that we have held meetings with the Rice Millers Association of Nigeria, those who are responsible for producing this rice and we have asked them to open up their stores.

“They’ve told us that they can guarantee about 60,000 metric tons of rice. This will be made available and we know that is enough to take Nigerians for the next one month to six weeks, perhaps up to two months 60,000 metric tons. They’ve agreed that they will make that available to Nigerians to bring it out to the market so that food is made available.

“Now,  the whole idea of this is to crash the cost of these food items. And these are measures that will happen immediately.

“42,000 metric tons from the strategic government reserve, about 60,000 metric tons of rice from the Rice Millers Association, they have them in all their storage facilities and government in conjunction with them after this exhaustive meeting, has directed that they also bring this out immediately so that your food, I mean the price of rice, will come down significantly.

“Now the third item is that the government is also looking at the possibility, if it becomes necessary as an interim measure in the short run, to also import some of these commodities immediately so that these commodities can be made available to Nigerians immediately within the next couple of weeks.

”Now, with all these emergency measures, there is of course a directive to the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security to invest massively in conjunction with Nigerian farmers and other producers so that we can have a better season coming up shortly.

“We all know that dry season farming is happening, that will take effect very shortly, and that we hope will also contribute, because as soon as the dry season farming gets underway, the government hopes that food prices will also come down.”

“As I said, these are all measures that are taken immediately, and as an emergency measure to bring down the cost of food items. In the long run, Federal Ministry of Agriculture is going to invest massively so that Nigeria will recover its potential as a food basket and we don’t expect that going forward we are going to be faced with these challenges again,” he added.

The minister appealed to those hoarding food commodities to desist from doing so and ensure food items were readily made available in the stores of many traders.

“Well, you cannot hold the nation to ransom. You cannot have these commodities and you’re hoarding them in your stores when we all need them. We are in an emergency and we’ll take emergency measures to make sure that this food is available to Nigerians.

“Government is appealing to them, that they should open up these stores, make these commodities available in the interest of our nation. There is no point when the whole country is looking for this food, you are looking up these products so that you make more money and then Nigerians suffer.

“Of course, the government will not fold its arms. We know where all these major traders are. We know where all these major stores are. And if they don’t respond by bringing these commodities to the market, the government will take appropriate measures to ensure that these products are made available to Nigerians,” Idris further said.

He said the government would do whatever is humanly possible to ensure that food is made available to Nigerians at an affordable price.

The minister also spoke on the 14-day ultimatum by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) of Nigeria over the current economic situation in the country.

He said it was not in the interest of anyone for the organised labour to embark on strike, and therefore, appealed to the unions to come for a round table discussion to arrive at amicable resolutions to their grievances.

“Well, we appeal to labour to always see reason with the government. It is not in the government’s interest for the labour to continue to go on strike.

“We appeal with labour, let them come again, around the table to continue to have engagements and conversations around whatever grey areas they think they have in some of these agreements that have already been signed,” he said.

Reminded that labour accused the government of being in the habit of not keeping to agreements with unions, the minister said: “No, I think the government keeps its promises. If there are other things that they (NLC, TUC) think they are concerned about, I think that they will sit down with the government and the government is ever ready to listen to labour so that we can have an amicable resolution to all these.”

Earlier, the NLC and TUC had issued a 14-day nationwide strike notice to the federal government over the government’s failure  to implement the agreements reached  October 2, 2023, after the removal of the subsidy on Premium Motor Spirit, otherwise known as petrol.

The lamented that despite organised labour’s efforts to ensure industrial peace, the government appeared unperturbed by the mass suffering and hardship across the country.

In a statement Thursday, the unions said the October 2 agreement was “focused on addressing the massive suffering and the general harsh socioeconomic consequences of the ill-conceived and ill-executed IMF/World Bank-induced hike in the price of PMS and the devaluation of the naira. These dual policies have had, as we predicted, dire economic consequences for the masses and workers of Nigeria.”

“It is regrettable that we are compelled to resort to such measures, but the persistent neglect of the welfare of citizens and Nigerian workers and the massive hardship leave us with no choice.

Effective February 9 (tomorrow), among others, the two labour unions said, “Constrained by this development and recognising the urgency of the situation and the imperative of ensuring the protection and defence of the rights and dignity of Nigerian workers and citizens, the NLC and TUC hereby issue a stern ultimatum to the Federal Government to honour their part of the understanding within 14 days from tomorrow, the 9th day of February, 2024.” the statement further added.
