49 Caps Ex Nigeria International Returns As Interim Coach Of Super Eagles Following Exit Of Peseiro

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has moved swiftly to fill the vacancy of the head coach of the senior national team of Nigeria following the decision of Jose Peseiro not to continue as coach, OwnGoalNigeria.com can exclusively reveal.

In a statement on all his social media handles, the coach announced that he is leaving the job following the expiration of his deal as coach of the team, he had an option of extending the deal but he turned it down following a disagreement on wages.

Peseiro who led the team to the Africa Cup of Nations final, where they were beaten 1-0 by the host Cote d’Ivoire will now be replaced by Austine Eguavoen, but in interim capacity.

We exclusively gathered that by virtue of his position as the technical director of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) he steps in whenever there is a vacuum in any managerial post, pending when a new coach is announced.

He will likely be in charge of the Super Eagles for the upcoming international break, if the are able to secure a friendly game following the cancellation of the proposed game against Argentina.

Eguavoen will be assisted by Finidi George, who has stayed the longest with Peseiro among all indigenous coaches appointed to work with the Portuguese by the Amaju Pinnick led board of the NFF 22 months ago.
