UK Advocacy Groups Tackle Minister Ojo Over New Passport Acquisition Policy

UK Advocacy Groups Tackle Minister Ojo  Over New Passport Acquisition Policy

Several Nigerian  advocacy groups in London, have voiced out their discontent over the new policy of the Nigeria Interior Minister, Tunji-Ojo concerning passport acquisition which many  Nigerians have  been complaining about lately.
The new policy we gathered is the introduction of $300 additional payment to fast track the process of acquiring Nigerian passport in the UK.

The minister is accused of using his office to sell pains to his fellow countrymen in that part of the world, who need to obtain a passport.

Many ,who have voiced their displeasure are saying it was a deliberate act on the part of the minister whom they claim is making the passport scarce , so that many will be forced to pay the three hundred dollars fee for the fast tracking service.

The not too pleasing ongoing situation, has made Transparency Nigeria to issued a statement to demand a thorough review of the claims.

Part of the  statement reads: "It is imperative for the government to act swiftly and decisively to restore faith in our systems."

On social media, the public's reactions in the UK have been swift and unforgiving.

Hashtags such as #OjoScandal and #CorruptionWatch have been trending, with citizens expressing their frustration over the current situation .

“This isn't just about one man; it's about the systemic issues that allow such practices to thrive," commented one user.

Ojo's office is yet to release an official response. However, insiders suggest that an internal review is imminent. The Nigerian government, already grappling with multiple fronts of public unrest, cannot afford to turn a blind eye to such grave allegations, another source averred.

As the investigation progresses, all eyes remain fixed on the authorities to see how they navigate and resolve this contentious issue.

AMB. AISHA ABDULKADIR YAU CALLS FOR PEACEFUL APPROACH AMID GROWING CALLS FOR NATIONWIDE PROTEST

AMB. AISHA ABDULKADIR YAU CALLS FOR PEACEFUL APPROACH AMID GROWING CALLS FOR NATIONWIDE PROTEST

In a heartfelt address, Ambassador Aisha Abdulkadir Yau, a prominent humanitarian ambassador and advocate for family and economic stability, urged Nigerians to exercise caution and prioritize peace amid growing calls for nationwide protests against the current economic situation.

Speaking to the press, Ambassador Aisha emphasized the importance of peaceful coexistence and the potential dangers of violent protests. Drawing on her roles as a wife, mother, and humanitarian, she passionately appealed to mothers to dissuade their children from participating in violent demonstrations and encouraged spouses to embrace patience with President Bola Tinubu's "Renewed Hope" agenda.

"While the right to peaceful protest is enshrined in our democracy and is a powerful tool for voicing concerns, I urge all Nigerians to consider the potential consequences carefully," Ambassador Aisha stated. She referenced the End SARS protests of 2020, highlighting how initially peaceful demonstrations tragically escalated into widespread chaos, resulting in significant economic disruption and loss of life.

Ambassador Aisha warned that a nationwide protest at this juncture could lead to similar disruptions and hardships. She underscored that such actions often impact the most vulnerable in society, including daily wage earners, small business owners, students, and patients in hospitals.

Acknowledging the economic hardships faced by many Nigerians, Ambassador Aisha affirmed the government's commitment to addressing these challenges through various initiatives:

1. Economic Reforms: The government is implementing comprehensive reforms to stabilize and grow the economy, attract foreign investment, bolster local industries, and create jobs, particularly for the youth.

2. Support for Small Businesses: Expanded support programs for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) include low-interest loans, grants, and business development services to help SMEs thrive and generate employment.

3.Social Welfare Programs: Enhanced social welfare programs provide direct financial assistance, food distribution, and healthcare subsidies for those most in need.

4. Infrastructure Development: Significant investments in infrastructure projects aim to create jobs and stimulate economic activity, building a stronger foundation for future growth.

5. Dialogue and Engagement: The government is committed to open and constructive dialogue with all stakeholders, including civil society organizations, labor unions, and community leaders, to address grievances and work towards sustainable solutions.

Ambassador Aisha called for cooperation over disruption and chaos, urging Nigerians to protect their children and each other by seeking peaceful, strategic avenues for advocacy. "As a mother, my heart aches at the thought of losing more of our young ones to violence," she said. "Let us choose the path of cooperation and work together to build a Nigeria that offers prosperity and opportunity for all."

The Women Initiative for Family Economy (WIFE), represented by Ambassador Aisha, continues to advocate for peaceful and constructive engagement in addressing the nation's challenges.

"SWAT Boss, DCP Ayilara Wants To Maliciously Charge Me To Court Over My Family Land" - 86-Year-Old Pa Moshood Oni-Orisan Cries Out

"SWAT Boss, DCP Ayilara Wants To Maliciously Charge Me To Court Over My Family Land" - 86-Year-Old Pa Moshood Oni-Orisan Cries Out

Alhaji Abdul-Moshood Babatunde, the head of the Oni-Orisan family in Lagos Island, has raised concerns over plans by DCP Ayilara, in charge of SWAT, who allegedly directed ASP Olalekan to maliciously charge him to court over his father's land.

Pa Mashood Oni-Orisan cleared the air on the controversy trailing the sale of a portion of the family's Oju Ota Gazetted property in Oko Orisan. He joined Obadimeji Oshodi in selling the land to Harmony Gardens, a top real estate firm owned by socialite Saheed Mosadoluwa.

Alhaji Babatunde said he has been moving in and out of the police station owing to the petition written by some aggrieved Oni Orisan members, working hands in hands with Bashiru Fakorede and Sodiq Oloto engaged as agents and  allegedly stormed the said Harmony Gardens' properties and destroying some goods worth ‘billions of naira’.

In a meeting with Journalists in Lagos on Wednesday, Pa Mashood Oni Orisan said that the deal is ‘clean, valid, and cannot be reversed and he will not take money from Bashiru to deny what he had sold to Harmony Gardens.

Alhaji Moshood particularly fingered a half-sister of his, Mrs. Modupe Damasio Oni-Orisan, as the mastermind of the petition that landed him in trouble with police from Alagbon and A.O Olalekan attached to DCP Ayilara of Adeniji Adele, where he was reportedly tormented with no regard to his old age and failing health.

“I was surprised that at my age and with my level of mobility, A.O Olalekan from Adeniji Adele were tossing me around,” stressed the man in his mid-90s.

He explained his role in the deal:

“It’s true I sold 10 acres  share part of the Oju Ota landed properties to Harmony Gardens on behalf of my family in Oju-Ota and Oko-Orisan. Family also sold 10 acres and the other Obadimeji  Village, and the land giving to Oloja  Epe, Lagos, with the knowledge and consent of my siblings.

My family has about 5,400 acres of land in Epe, which I think is more than enough for the 77 grandchildren to share. I have collected N35m advance, my agent also collected hoping to be paid the balance of N30m, which I have promised to share with others when Harmony Gardens pays but how should the company pay balance when they are destroying his property? But my sister would not accept this, hence the resort to a police case to force me to lie that Harmony Gardens hijacked the land they had paid for”.

Alhaji Moshood disclosed that, though the Lagos State government has acquired 2,000 acres from the land for the airport project and that of Oko Orisan Scheme, the family still has 3,400 acres left, which he insists is enough for everyone to share.

On the invasion of Harmony Gardens’ properties, Alhaji Moshood says the company and the  family has petitioned the Lagos State Commissioner of Police and the Deputy Sheriff to investigate how Modupe and Bashiru misled Justice Harrison to issue another enrolment order on already executed judgement against China Harbour and prevents further destruction of the innocent buyer's property. He also alleged that the AIG of Zone 2, Olaoye Durosinmi, in the heat of the crisis, deployed armed officers on July 22, 2024, to provide security for the aggrieved family members and thugs led by Sadiq Oloto and Modupe, promising to provide video recordings and statements from suspects, showing the involvement of the culprits, allegedly supported by AIG Durosinmi.

Alhaji Moshood, therefore, called on the Attorney General of Lagos State to intervene and prevent “unlawful and malicious arraignment and prosecution since it a clear case that both DCP Ailara and Durosinmi are puppets of Bashiru Fakorede and Sodiq Oloto”

Accused notorious land grabbers led by Sodiq Oloto working with Bashiru Fakorede, was alleged to have connived with Alhaji Moshood’s half-sister to unleash mayhem over the land saga, culminating in the destruction of valuable properties and the arrest of some staff of Harmony Gardens.

A human rights advocacy group has vowed to intervene and ensure that justice is achieved and they have ask both AIG Durosinmi of Zone 2 to recourse himself from investigating the case because he is a party aiding and supervising landgrabbing for Sodiq Oloto and Bashiru Fakorede.

While promising to ensure a peaceful settlement of the crisis, Alhaji Moshood urged his siblings, who appointed him as the head (Olori-ebi) of the Oni-Orisan family, to allow peace to reign so that buyers can be sourced for the remaining vast expanse of land and everyone can be taken care of.

I quit modern school in Agbor to start acting with Pa Oyin Adejobi in Osogbo – Baba Wande

I quit modern school in Agbor to start acting with Pa Oyin Adejobi in Osogbo – Baba Wande

+ Reason Why I stayed long with him

I celebrated fifty years on stage in November 2013 but, indeed, I had been involved in theatre since I was in AUD (Ansar ud deen) Primary School, between 1954 and 1960, in Osogbo, which is my hometown. Of course, you know that Osogbo is the capital of Osun State. I come from the Arikalamu Compound in Owoope, here in Osogbo. Owoope means the length of a palm tree. The primary school is in the Sabo area of Owoope.

When I was attending primary school, a Society, with members mainly from Lagos, Abeokuta, and Ijebu, to promote Islam, arranged for some Mullah to teach the pupils how to pray, and everything about Islam. Mind you, other subjects were being taught in the school as well.

It was to raise money to pay these Islamic teachers that they floated a Dramatic Society whereby some of the pupils were selected to go and learn a play written and produced by Pa Oyin Adejobi, then Osogbo’s foremost playwright. Other dramatic greats from Osogbo such as Duro Ladipo and Kola Ogunmola, came behind Pa Adejobi who while being a theatre practitioner had his day job as a clerk at the Osogbo Local Government.

I was one of the AUD pupils sent to Pa Oyin Adejobi.

People paid to come and watch us perform the plays taught us by Pa Oyin Adejobi. It was from the proceeds that the Society paid the Islamic teachers. They also used part of the money to cook rice and beans for us. I liked that very much. (Long laughter). Those who were not part of the acting would now be looking at us like stars and calling us by the roles we performed. That was more than monetary compensation.

We did that for several years before we passed out from AUD School.

This was what inspired me to become an actor.

My parents never came to watch the plays we performed in the school. They did not even know I was involved in any play, even when I told them I was going for practice in the school.

My father was involved in the sale of cocoa. He used to go to Ghana (formerly Gold Coast). He spent many years in Ghana. It may be in Ghana that I was born; I am not sure. (Long laughter). He died in 1959, just a year before I finished primary school.

After his death, I went to join my mother who was trading in Agbor, in today’s Delta State.

She enrolled me in a secondary modern school in Agbor but I did not stay there for too long. I told my mum I had to return to Osogbo to join the Oyin Adejobi Concert Party, which was established in his house at the Gbaemu area of the town. My heart was in acting.

When I joined Pa Adejobi’s group, it was like homecoming. I adapted easily. I believe that the papa had also seen that I was talented when we were doing those primary school plays.

Papa’s group had a good structure, with a manager and a director.

We travelled round villages to perform our plays. We went to schools and generally moved from one place to another. We did plays for the ATOKA photoplay magazine (published by the West African Book Publishers for about twenty-two years from around 1967) and for WNTV (Western Nigeria Television).

I was with Pa Oyin Adejobi for twenty-five years. At some point, I became the group’s manager when Lere Paimo who had served in the role left. One Mr Ayeni, who was a teacher, also had been a manager of the group.

We performed so many plays…Adam & Eve, Joseph and his brethren, Orogun Adedigba, Kuye….so many.

Many, if not all the plays, started with Baba giving us a song. He was a great composer. From the song, we would then begin to fit into this and that role.

He could not act because he had a bad leg. Occasionally, though, he played roles where he would sit down. Indeed, it was because of that handicap that I stayed that long with him. Why? I felt pity for him. I always thought that if I left him, the group would fall apart. I did not want that to happen to that Baba and that made me stay longer with him. Twenty-five years is not a joke.

I thank God today that because it is through the work that I did for Baba that many people remember me.

Even my own name, Kareem Adepoju, is not as well known as the name people started calling me after playing “Otokiti” and the father of Wande – Baba Wande – in a play titled Ile ti a fi’to mo written by one professor in Ilorin. Wande, my daughter in the play, was acted by Pa Oyin Adejobi’s daughter who now works at an electricity distribution company (DisCo) in Ibadan.

On television, that play ran for three and a half hours. It must have been one of the longest plays on television then. I wonder if the tape is in an archive. The television station usually ran it when people were at home for an extended period, like during elections. And, when we did those plays for television in those days, the group got paid and Pa Oyin Adejobi also paid members of the group what was due to each person.

Now, I also named my company after Baba Wande. Involved in the production of film and television series, it is called Baba Wande Production Company. No, we do not perform stage plays. We are currently producing a weekly television drama series titled Omoluabi, sponsored by the Osun State Government and running on the Osun Broadcasting Corporation. When Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola became the State governor, I went to him and said it was necessary to promote his Omoluabi (philosophy) through drama. He accepted. When his tenure ended, his successor, Gboyega Oyetola, continued the programme, and we were well compensated.

To stage a play now you must have enough money to camp your cast and crew for days, for rehearsals; for travelling vehicle(s), costumes, and all the other essentials.

I hope there would be corporate bodies or government agencies which could help in this direction. Even wealthy individuals too.

If I had to choose between a stage play or movie, I would choose the former. If you make a mistake in a film, they will stop and re-record that part. Before you go on to do a stage play, you would have had serious rehearsals mastered your role, and performed before the audience, large or small. When you make a mistake you can improvise, and only you would know, not the audience. One day, while on stage, I mistakenly put money in my pocket. When I wanted to remove my shirt. And nothing was supposed to have fallen from my shirt; so I had to quickly turn the money falling into part of the play. If I had a co-actor who understood what I had done, we could go ahead to make something out of that mistake. An amateur actor would be confused and the flow could be disrupted (Long laughter).

I love stage plays. There are theatre practitioners and film actors.

None of my offspring is into full-time theatre practice. Occasionally, one or two of them join me in my productions but they have their own work. I am happy when they take part in my productions, but I also want them to have other ways to make their living. You know that many artistes in Nigeria are suffering; many of them resort to begging when they fall ill or to even survive.

If you say I look well, I thank God. It is His making. I have never smoked – I know that smoking hurts people. I have never drunk alcohol, because my religion is against it. I do not drink anything cold; in fact, anything from the fridge is my enemy. I am being told that I should not eat beyond a certain time, but I eat anytime I see food. When we were doing stage plays, people would start coming in at eight pm. We would finish by midnight or even much later. Thereafter, we will look for food and eat. And nothing happened.

I am over seventy years old now, but I am not retiring because actors never retire. I see new things every day that I can write plays on, and that people will learn lessons from.

My message for any young person wishing to work in theatre: be patient, don’t be too anxious for money, for property. Be content with what God gives you. Don’t drink too much. Don’t smoke at all. Think well before you do anything.

Alleged Land Grabber, Bashiru Fakorede, Strikes Again in Epe As Police Arrests Modupe Oni Orisan,Others

Alleged Land Grabber, Bashiru Fakorede, Strikes Again in Epe As Police Arrests Modupe Oni Orisan,Others

Aare Bashiru Fakorede, also known as “Bashy Ajagungbale,”  who is alleged to be a renowned and notorious land grabber, has extended his land grabbing activities to the Epe axis, specifically targeting the Oko Orisan village. This village is said to have been gazetted by the Lagos State Government to various families, including the Oko Orisan, Oni Orisan, and Obadimeji Oshodi families. Fakorede, infamous for his exploits in Ajiran communities, has allegedly  partnered with a faction of the Oni Orisan family, exploiting his expertise in land grabbing.

In a recent development, Fakorede accused of manipulating the Lagos State High Court to issue an unlawful execution order. This order, facilitated by the court's sheriff, targeted Oko Orisan village based on a judgment (Suit No: M/762/2012) that had already been executed in 2023. Fakorede's actions highlight his desperation and cunning in land grabbing.

Fakorede has also involved Dr. Muiz Banire, SAN, a reputable Senior Advocate of Nigeria, to lend credibility to his schemes. Unbeknownst to Banire, Fakorede has allegedly been leveraging his influence to solicit support from top police officers, including DIG Abiodun Alabi and DCP SWAT, to stall any investigations into his activities.

Aare Bashiru Fakorede claimed to have  history of using legal and police apparatus to further his land grabbing activities. He previously arrested some youths from Oju Ota Village at Alagbon, pressuring them to implicate Saheed Ibile falsely. Fakorede's manipulation of the legal system is evident in his engagement of influential legal figures and police officers to mislead and stall investigations.

Fakorede's recent actions involve the demolition of perimeter fences on lands owned by Harmony Gardens and Estate Development Limited. Despite a Federal High Court order restraining Fakorede and the police from interfering with these properties, Fakorede continues his illegal activities, causing significant losses for Harmony Gardens.

Fakorede's alleged tactics include creating factions within families and communities, offering bribes to sow discord, and strategically hijacking properties sold to innocent investors. This strategy was evident in the Oju-Ota Gazette land case, where Fakorede conspired with Modupe Oni Orisan and Ade Dosunmu to feign ignorance of the sale of land to Harmony Gardens, which was legally acquired from the Oko Orisan, Oni Orisan, and Obadimeji Oshodi families.

Harmony Gardens and Estate Development Limited legally acquired the land through a deed of assignment executed by Pa Moshood Babatunde Oni Orisan, the head of the Oni Orisan family. Despite this, Fakorede continues to claim representation of the Oni Orisan family, misleading authorities and violating court orders.

The public is urged to recognize the plight of affected communities and the manipulations by Fakorede and his cohorts. The Inspector General of Police, DIG Force CID, CP Lagos, and the Lagos State Government are called upon to investigate Fakorede and his associates, ensuring that the law prevails against land grabbing activities.

Fakorede's activities have led to significant losses for Harmony Gardens, including the theft of payloaders worth 180 million Naira. The call for justice extends to preventing further violations of property rights and protecting the interests of legitimate landowners and investors.
However, Reports have surfaced that on Monday, 22nd July 2024, Modupe Oni Orisan, accompanied by police officers from Zone 2 and hoodlums, led an attack on the property of Harmony Gardens and Estates Development Ltd. The group caused extensive damage, with estimates exceeding one billion naira.

The situation escalated when irate youths from Oko Orisan apprehended Modupe Oni Orisan and the hoodlums, handing them over to the CP Lagos crack team. During the altercation, the Zone 2 police officers overseeing the forceful takeover fled the scene.

Upon arrival, the estate owner, Hon. Dr. Saheed Mosadoluwa urged the youths to avoid taking the law into their own hands and to allow the police to handle the situation. The extent of the damages inflicted by the hoodlums is currently estimated at over one billion naira.

*Declare APC governorship candidate moral model
*Vow to deliver Edo State to APC

Edo State Women on Monday assessed the seven and half years of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) administration in the state, saying the ruling party had failed.

‘’A new type of leadership is needed in Edo State. Everything is going Monday Okpebholo’s way. We are standing by him as the state’s best choice to remove the PDP from Edo State Government House’’.

They also expressed joy about Okpebholo’s honesty and ability to govern Edo State.

‘’Monday Okpebholo is the best man for the job. He is on track to win the September 21 governorship election -- and maybe win it by a landslide”

The women spoke about what Governor Godwin Obaseki did and the danger of electing PDP again in Edo State.

‘’We don’t want another transactional leader in Edo State. Godwin Obaseki lost sight of the ideals of good governance. Monday Okpebholo is willing and ready to return Edo State to the path of greatness and recover the lost years’’

At a joint meeting of League of Women Voters in Edo State (LOWVIES), Edo Women’s Justice Network (EWJN) and Benin Women’s Forum (BWF) in Benin, the women scored the Obaseki led PDP government low in health, education, agriculture, energy and electricity.

‘’Generally, Edo people are disappointed. The state infrastructure is in disrepair. The governor is a man in decline and has lost his political pull in the state’’.

They accused the governor of harming ethnic and religious harmony in the state, isolating himself from the grassroots and turning a blind eye to the suffering of the people.

The women aired their views on the strengths and weaknesses of the candidates.

‘’The challenges facing Edo State now require a leader of a different mould. It requires dynamism, broadness and fresh perspective to the challenges of development’’

They vowed to stop the legacy of mismanagement in the state.

‘’We are going to show our true mettle in September. We don’t need a pompous know-it-all or a political charlatan as the next governor of Edo State’’

Chairperson of League of Women Voters in Edo State (LOWVIES), Mrs. Doris Idahosa in a statement hours after the meeting described the APC gubernatorial candidate as a charismatic leader with a strong moral belief of how things should be.

“Monday Okpebholo is the perfect person for the governorship job. He represents a moving target determined to push the frontiers of excellence in both the rural and urban areas. The APC candidate is brilliant, accessible and will make the difference in the politics and development of the state” they said.

The women praised Edo youths for the decreasing level of tolerance for poor performance by PDP elected and appointed officials in the state.

"Monday Okpebholo is a large-hearted philanthropist, a reputable humanist and a God-fearing individual. He has the capacity to drive the state in the direction that we want it. So, he is just the natural choice of the people”

The statement also underscored Okpebholo's performance and leadership qualities.

"The APC governorship candidate is a man of action and few words. He believes in performance and has been tested and proven over the years. His track records speak for him, he doesn't believe in talking too much"

The women commended the youths and traditional rulers in the state for supporting the gubernatorial ambition of the APC candidate.

The women said Okpebholo would empower the people, improve the business environment and uphold the values of communal harmony that make Edo State a unique model for us all.

“Monday Okpebholo is a very thorough man with deep religious values. He will ensure the unity of the state, drive productivity and growth, raise the standard of living in the state and improve the lot of everyone. He will lead the state to the next level, run an open government with accountability standards, upgrade existing roads, and ensure that all roads in the state have adequate drainage systems to aggressively check the menace of flooding and erosion’’.

‘’Monday Okpebholo will ensure lasting peace through security and good governance, decent education, adequate medical care and affordable housing. Agriculture will witness a turn around. Youth employment and women empowerment will be given attention. Rapid results will be achieved in the economic sector” the statement added.

Electricity Company Staff Arrested for Bypassing, Tampering With Meters For Customers

Electricity Company Staff Arrested for Bypassing, Tampering With Meters For Customers

Lawrence Okeke, a former employee of Enugu Electricity Distribution Company PLC (EEDC), was apprehended in Onitsha, Anambra State, for tampering with prepaid meters belonging to EEDC customers.

Okeke’s modus operandi involved replacing original meter sensors with fake ones, enabling him to bypass the meters and prevent them from accurately recording customers’ consumption.

The illegal activity resulted in significant revenue loss for the distribution company.

According to Mr. Emeka Ezeh, Head of Corporate Communications at EEDC, in a statement on Thursday, the company’s Meter Monitoring Team discovered the fraud during a routine inspection, following a tip-off from a whistleblower.

At one of the customer’s premises visited at Bida Road, Onitsha, they discovered that the meter was bypassed, and the original meter sensor removed and replaced with the fake one.

While the team interrogated the customer who already admitted their findings, the customer gave out the identity and contact of the individual that performed the bypass as Lawrence Okeke, who happens to be an ex-staff of EEDC.

Immediately, Lawrence was tracked and arrested, and handed over to the Central Police Station, Onitsha, where he is currently assisting the Police in their investigation.

According to Ezeh, Lawrence Okeke who hails from Adogba Village in Awgu Local Government Area, Enugu State, was disengaged from EEDC in December 2020 for gross misconduct.

“The apprehension of the suspect by the team is a great breakthrough in the organization’s fight against meter bypass and energy theft”, Ezeh said.

“It is believed that by the time the investigation is concluded, a lot of atrocities already perpetrated by the likes of Lawrence in our network, will be unraveled”.

Ezeh cautioned customers who engage in meter bypass to desist from such as the company has stepped up its prepaid meter monitoring activities and anyone caught will be made to face the music.

He also advised the customers against the activities of some ex-staff of EEDC who still parade the network as though they are still working for the company, while they are busy extorting unsuspecting customers and carrying out criminal and illegal activities that undermine the organization’s efforts in providing quality services to its esteemed customers.

“Customers should always be mindful of who they are engaging as staff of EEDC and be sure of their identity, as a lot of people out there carrying out illegalities, parading as staff of EEDC are not in its employ”, Ezeh warned.

While commending the whistle blower for giving the information that led to the arrest of Lawrence, Ezeh further urged customers to feel free to report any suspected case of meter bypass and energy theft through the company’s whistle blowing platforms.

Suspected Cultists Invade TASUED Exam Hall, Kill Final-Year Student On His Birthday

CRIMESuspected Cultists Invade TASUED Exam Hall, Kill Final-Year Student On His Birthday

Suspected cultists on Wednesday, stormed an examination hall at the Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED), Ijagun, Ogun State, dragging out a final-year student, Ahmed Ayinla Fabiyi, and brutally murdering him.

Fabiyi, a student of the History and Diplomatic Studies department, was set to take his final paper and celebrate his birthday on the same day.

The tragic event occured  around 3pm, just as the exam was about to commence.

Eyewitnesses reported that the gang disguised themselves as friends, ostensibly there to surprise Fabiyi for his birthday, and “carried” him out of the hall under this pretence.

According to Mrs. Ayotunde Odubela, the institution’s Public Relations Officer, the gang’s true intentions became apparent only when they began dragging Fabiyi towards a bushy area near the university’s technical workshop.

There, they viciously beat and macheted him.

“Everyone thought they were celebrating his birthday until he was dragged to the bushy part of the institution’s technical workshop and attacked,” Odubela said.
It was  gathered that despite immediate intervention by the school’s security and medical teams, Fabiyi’s injuries proved fatal.

She said “ Odubela  said  “the student was actually carried out of the examination hall as if they were celebrating because today (Wednesday) was actually his birthday.

“That did not make people feel that there was anything happening. They took him out of the hall and it was later they started dragging him to the ground around technical workshop.
“That was when the school security unit was contacted but by the time they would get to the place of the incident, he had been  actually beaten and macheted. So, when they saw the security men coming, they dropped him and left.

“When the security men picked him up, they took him to the school medical center where he was immediately attended to and referred to the General Hospital Ijebu Ode, immediately.

The General Hospital also referred him to Babcock University Teaching Hospital. Unfortunately, he gave up the ghost before he got ton the hospital.”

Odubela said that the school has reported the matter to the police and handed over the case to the state command.

Efforts to reach the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, for a statement were unsuccessful as calls went unanswered.

Meanwhile, a video going viral on social media and multiple student-sources established that the students of the institution were having one of the mandatory papers of their second semester examination when a group of unknown men stormed the unnamed examination hall premises and dragged the student out.

The affected student was also identified as one of the student-leaders under the aegis of Student Union Government (SUG) in the institution.

A student who only identified as Josephine on X also confirmed the incident.

Severe flooding wreck havoc in Lagos, thousands displaced

Lagos, Nigeria’s financial giant has been hit by torrential rains displacing thousands of residents.

The rain started at dawn but continued beyond mid-day.

Residents lament the loss of property and flooding of private and commercial homes.

As at press time, NAIJA Youth has not received any information of possible deaths.

Workers, traders, commuters and even students writing their NECO and promotion examinations were thrown into turmoil all day on Wednesday.

Our correspondent discovered that those living in Lagos Island and mainland were adversely affected by the torrentous downpour.
There was traffic snarl on the Ikorodu road located in the heart of the city.

Residents hid under bridges waiting for the persistent rain to subside. Many were seen trekking to their offices.

The heavy downpour, which began early Wednesday, caused water levels to rise rapidly, inundating homes, businesses, and major roads.

Local authorities report that the worst-hit areas include Lekki, Victoria Island, and Ajah, where streets have turned into rivers and vehicles have been submerged.

“I’ve never seen anything like this in all my years living here,” said a resident of Lekki. “The water came in so fast; we barely had time to save any of our belongings.”

The flooding has raised concerns about the city’s infrastructure and drainage systems, long criticized for being inadequate to handle heavy rains. Experts are calling for urgent improvements to prevent future disasters.

A user on X @olawalesmd highlighted the role of residents in exacerbating the flooding, tweeting, “You’re also responsible for the ongoing flood in Lagos if you throw plastics and trash outside the windows of your cars or buses, allowing waste to clog drainages. If you don’t clear your gutters, if you don’t pay LAWMA bills. Everything isn’t government. Some of you get wahala.”
