NGIJ Holds Virtual Congress, Dissolves NEC, and Inaugurates Electoral Committee for Fresh Elections
The Nigerian Guild of Investigative Journalists (NGIJ) recently convened its virtual Congress, during which significant changes were made, including the dissolution of the National Executive Council (NEC). In a decisive move towards refreshing its leadership, the Congress inaugurated an Electoral Committee tasked with conducting elections to usher in a new executive body.
The Electoral Committee, comprised of Oladigbo Olalekan, Tosin Ajiboye, and Adetunbi Olufemi, has been entrusted with the responsibility of organizing and overseeing the electoral process. The committee is expected to establish an election schedule and address other pertinent issues related to the transition.
This development marks a pivotal moment for the NGIJ as it seeks to strengthen its leadership and continue its commitment to promoting high standards of investigative journalism in Nigeria. The decision to hold fresh elections reflects the organization’s dedication to transparency, accountability, and democratic principles within its ranks.
The Congress’s resolution to dissolve the existing NEC and initiate a new electoral process underscores the NGIJ’s commitment to ensuring effective governance and representation. As the Electoral Committee prepares to carry out its mandate, members and stakeholders are hopeful for a smooth transition that will pave the way for continued progress and excellence in the field of investigative journalism.
