General Godwin Alabi Isama, Chief of Staff to Brigadier Benjamin Adekunle of the 3 Marine Commando, has stated that during the Nigerian Civil War, civilians gave Nigerian troops food on multiple occasions
In a video shared by BBC News Africa, Isama said that while he and his troops were advancing into Biafran territory, they met a village chief who prepared soup and fed them.
General Isama said the chief gave him meat to eat, and after he was done eating, the chief told him the meat was actually human flesh
General Isama stated that his General Officer Commanding later asked him if it was true that he had eaten human flesh. He said he admitted eating it but explained that he had done so unknowingly
In General Isama's words: "My GOC asked me, 'I heard you ate human flesh? I said, 'Yes, it was by mistake'"
