Gunmen abduct 16 wedding guests in Abuja

Four children were among the 16 wedding guests, who were taken away by a band of gunmen, who reportedly struck at Gwombe community in Gwargwada Chiefdom of Kuje Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Saturday evening.


Shuaibu Dantani, a resident of the area, who gave details of the incident, said the victims, who were mostly women, were abducted on their way from a wedding in Abaji Area Council, after the gunmen flagged down the vehicle conveying them, adding that the victims, were subsequently whisked away to an unknown destination.

“A man riding a motorcycle on his way to Rubochi who nearly ran into the kidnappers returned to the village and raised alarm,” he said, adding that family members of the victims were yet to establish contact with the kidnappers.

Daily Trust quotes Alhaji Hussain Agabi Mam, the Agabe of Gwargwada, who confirmed the incident through telephone as saying on Sunday, that nobody had been able to establish communication with the kidnappers, while Adeh Josephine, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and spokesperson of the FCT Police Command, was yet to confirm the incident.
