JUST IN: Bus Driver Identifies Suspects Standing Trial Over Abduction Of 20 NYSC Members In Imo
OWERRI: The driver of a bus carrying 20 prospective NYSC members who were abducted in Imo State says he has identified the suspects standing trial over the incident as the men who attacked his vehicle and took the passengers hostage.
Testifying as the third prosecution witness at the Imo State High Court in Mgbidi on Friday, the driver said he recognised the men, especially the first defendant, who allegedly came up to his bus with an AK-47 rifle.
The corps members were abducted on October 1, Independence Day, along the Owerri-Onitsha Expressway while travelling from Ibadan to orientation camps in the South-East and South-South. They have since regained their freedom.
The DSS has charged the defendants with conspiracy, hostage-taking and unlawful possession of firearms. The defendants are presumed innocent until the court decides otherwise, and the trial continues.
