*IMPROPER CORONATION PROCEDURE OF OGUNSUA: OUR POSITION AS IFE SONS AND DAUGHTERS IN DIASPORA*
In furtherance of our collective effort to return sanity to the distorted traditional process leading to the coronation of Ogunsua of Modakeke, Joseph Olubiyi Toriola, I would like to inform you of our position as follow.
That the invitation of Oyomesi to crown Ogunsua negates the principles of cultural demand which upholds that Ooni is the only one authorized and empowered to perform such traditional rites for any traditional _Oba_ under his kingdom watch in Ifeland no matter what.
To us, it is a presumed, dramatic royal malady and vacuum of cultural ethics and decency which is capable of bringing the much-adored and revered stool of _Ooni_ into disrepute. We will not allow that under any guise. We cannot afford to treat this issue with kid gloves or allow it to be swept under the carpet.
Let me say here that a precedence will be made in the manner by which we treat this matter, which invariably becomes history that will be passed down to our children and that matters to us a lot as a people.
We emphasize unequivocally, therefore, that this deliberate misplacement sends a wrong signal to the propriety of the doctrine of king-making and coronation in Ifeland and _that alone unduly raises the Ogunsua/Modakeke sovereignty against the supremacy of Ile-Ife, their ancient landlord._
That the majority of Ife sons and daughters in the diaspora are not only displeased with the array of perverted custom and tradition but also feel with great disappointment, most specifically when _Ooni Ogunwusi had to stand up to honor Ogunsua._ This is grossly unbecoming, unacceptable and out of order.
While we are being patient on the matter, we are watching with keen interest the events that follow which may translate to any positive development that will put the record straight for the overall interest of our incoming generations so that we do not bequeath to them a twisted myth.
We hope that this singular issue will be given its pride of place in the meeting already slated for Thursday November 9, 2022, before we take further steps on the matter. E se pupo. Ife ko ni baje o. A ma juwa se o. Ife a gbe wa o.
