24-year-old Abia keke operator arrested while disposing corpse of girlfriend

A 24-year-old Chigozie Nwokoro of Ajata Ibeku Village in Umuahia North LGA, Abia State is in police net over an attempt to dispose the body of his girlfriend, that allegedly died under his custody.

Chigozie was on Wednesday apprehended while attempting to dispose the corpse of the lady simply identified as Beauty, a 20-year-old native of Oboro Ikwuano local government area of the state whom he has been dating for over two years.

A source who spoke under cover said the suspect is a Keke rider and that luck ran out of him when some youths caught him trying to dispose the body.

According to the source, “We were shocked when the boy passed us with his Keke (tricycle) with full speed. I told my brother that I saw something inside the Keke that looked like a dead body.

“We became suspicious about his movement at that time of the night and traced the suspect to know what he was carrying inside his tricycle at the odd hours of the night without his knowledge until he entered inside the bush to dump the body Then we caught him red-handed and demanded to know why he rode his tricycle into the bush path”..

It was then that the suspect allegedly confessed that his girlfriend died in his house, adding that he decided to dumped the corpse in the bush to prevent anyone from knowing what had happened.

He was promptly arrested by the locals who attempted to lynch him, before the arrival of a police patrol team.

The suspect explained that at about 7pm on that Wednesday, he attempted to have sex with Beauty and she refused, leading him to beat her up.

 According to him, while they were struggling, Beauty hit her head on the wall, which resulted in her death.

However, close observation indicated that the victim has multiple stabs on her body. She was rushed to Federal Medical Centre Umuahia where she was confirmed dead.

It was learnt that her body has been deposited at the morgue while an autopsy will be conducted at a later date.

However, another source in the community said,  ”She was his girlfriend and they were fighting and suddenly she tripped and hit her face on the floor.”The guy didn’t remove any body parts”.

Though the cause of the death is yet to be ascertained,  another rumoured has it that the lady died during love making session.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO of Abia State Police Command, ASP Chinaka Chioma Maureen confirmed the incident.

According to her, the suspect is at the police custody st the Umuahia Central Police Station for awaiting investigation.
