Brigade of Guards: We saw terrorists' torchlight from Veritas University and we went after them
According to a news that was published by the Vanguard Newspaper Online this afternoon, it was reported that a viral voice note allegedly from one of the soldiers in the Presidential Guards Brigade who were ambushed by terrorists few days ago in Abuja, explained how some officers of the Brigade were killed by terrorists in the operation at Bwari/Kubwa road in Abuja.
In the voice note, the soldier said, there is one particular school of law which the terrorists wrote letter to and the school immediately informed their battalion, Guards Brigade. They went there and started an all round defence deployment and they as well went to Veritas University to secure the school because the university is not far from the law school, as the terrorists might be planning to attack Veritas University as well.
However, two weeks after they were dispatched to the two schools, they discovered that some people were flashing torchlights inside the forest near Veritas University and when they asked the school security if that was usual, they were told no and that was when they knew that might be the attackers in the forest.
“When we got to the forest, we saw where the terrorists do smoke, kill goat, do eat as well. We saw their drugs, that was when we confirmed that these people are inside this bush, then we re-enforced."
He said their back up came with APC, gun trucks, Artillery Team and they advanced into the forest on Sunday, looking for the terrorists and when they got to a point where there were rocks, their advanced weapons could not channel to that route, so, they left them behind and went with their rifles alone, not knowing that the assailants have seen them from afar.
They laid ambush for them and started flanking them from left and right, as they killed six soldiers in the process but, they were still able to kill twelve among them.
He said, ”They succeeded in killing one captain, one lieutenant and two soldiers in my unit. In another unit, we lost one soldier of 177 battalion Keffi, while 102 battalion lost one soldier as well."
