NIG 5-6 MAR: 1 Event Which CAF Has To Ban Before It Becomes A Norm In African Football
It very unfortunate that the Super Falcons of Nigeria failed in their bid to qualify for Women's African Cup of Nations holding in Morocco after loosing to the host country on Penalty. Aside from the controversy surrounding the penalties, one event occurred during the match and must be stopped by the Confederation of African Football.
During the game, the fans of the host country who filled the country exhibited an unsportsmanlike behavior. They targeted their laser lights on the Super Eagles players particularly the goalkeeper in a bid to secure an undeserved advantage over the Nigerian team.
It will be recalled that such event occurred just few weeks ago in the World Cup qualifying game between Egypt and Senegal in Dakar. The Senegalese fans were seen pointing laser lights on Egyptian players particularly during the penalty kick which secured the qualification of the Senegalese ahead of Egypt.
It is high time this sudden habit stops in African football. The fans should not interfere in what happens in the field of play but should concentrate solely on supporting their players and encourage them. So CAF should now put their foot down and ban this.
